My surgery was Monday (3 days ago) and I was told when I was released on Tuesday to try for 48 oz of liquids and 40 gms of Protein per day for the first week. I've read so many comments from others that in the first few days after surgery, have a really hard time getting in their liquids and protein. That's what's strange....I'm just the opposite. For example, it's not yet noon and I've already had 28 oz of liquids and 34 gms of protein. Plus, I've had very little nausea and am already feeling almost back to 100% today. Could the doc have maybe made my sleeve a bit larger than normal and that's why I've had it so much easier than others who have been posting regarding problems getting in their liquids and Proteins early on after surgery? I don't understand....it's really strange.

The only one that can answer this is your doctor. They should of taken an x-ray with barium contrast before releasing you, this will show the actual size and shape of the reduced stomach.

Perhaps you're just lucky and the effects have just not hit you, as long as you eventually feel SOME restriction you should be OK. If no restriction then it's back to the doc to have him explain why it's not working for you.

Personally I could hardly eat or drink for weeks afterward, I actually got dehydrated and formed kidney stones. I had to force myself to eat and drink and eventually I developed a tiny bit of appetite.

Like you, I had little issue with fluids. However, I had good restriction with soft foods (about a half cup). My doctor explained that I didn't swell as much as others plus I am very tall so my stomach is longer than others and can hold a bit more. I say enjoy the lack of complications and ask the doctor about the bougie size at the next visit. :)

From the very beginning I have had zero problem with liquids & pudding, Jello, yogurt, etc...now that I"m on to soft food, it feels a little like it gets stuck in my chest and there is some discomfort. Some foods are easier than others - I had a hard time with scrambled eggs but was fine with chicken salad, go figure. But I'm keeping calories under 700, watching the carbs and sugar, making sure to get enough Protein & Water, and am losing pretty well with little to no hunger. I don't know how to explain it; I guess I should be grateful. I'd definitely talk to your surgeon about it next time you see him though. That's what I plan on doing :) Good luck!

It is the swelling that causes those problems at first- be glad you didn't have much swelling! YOu will feel restriction when you start eating more solid food, believe me!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
