Really Depressed

Recommended Posts

Leenerbups,

Also too, I saw on Celebrity Fit Club where one of the larger women, (comedian) had a body wrap done the day before weigh in or the day of weigh in and she didn't lose weight but she lost lots of inches.

She lost, if I can remember correctly, 1.5 inches in each arm, 1 or 2 full inches around her waist, 1.5 inches on her thighs, etc. I don't know the cost but it was a body wrap at a spa. This will shrink your fat cells from what I hear. Just an idea.

Wow, thank you Funnyduddie!!!!! So there is hope in find a nice dress that won't look like I'm smuggling bags of dough inside it.

Donna, your right. As I was saying to Yoda via PM if you don't feel good about yourself, it doesn't matter what others tell you, you know?

Hi Telly, I used to work in a spa and I remember those wraps. It's expensive and can't afford it, unfortunetly.

And that I think I'm more upset at the fact I don't have a fill and can't get one, which means no weight loss is on the horizon.

Leenerbups - I have a connection with you already because of a hilarious personal story about the cowbell skit that you've got in your signature. It's probably only that funny to me so I won't bore everyone, but when I saw that I thought I must add my words of encouragement.

I feel for your situation because I have those same insecurities you've described. I haven't been anywhere "nice" in ages because I just feel plain out-of-place. I know how difficult it can be to face new people and to be "up" in an effort to make a good impression when you feel so rotten about yourself - I fight the urge to let other's opinions of me define me even though I know that's just plain crazy.

My advice is to concentrate on what a great person you are, get a fabulous dress and just be yourself. Your boyfriend loves you for who you are and he had to have learned that from his family, right? They're probably just as wonderful as he is and if not, they can go screw themselves!

Changing the subject now, why can't you get a fill? Are you having problems and if so what kind? Amy - you're wonderful help, you're so very kind and such a wonderful asset to this site! Hang in there Leenerbups and just do the best you can and remember we're all here for you!

Hi Andy Liz...heheh I remember.

Thanks to everyone for the encouragment.

Meme, check out why i can't get a fill here:

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=20319

Funnyduddies, I looked into those Fill Centers and there are none near me. I'm in New Jersey and theyseem to be out west and far south.

Leener, Medicare knew long ago they were going to change over to Centers of Excellence for surgery, and so did the docs. You should have been forewarned you couldn't get fills anywhere else. You surely have centers of excellence in NJ that can accommodate you. That's a big state. Check out Centers of Excellence on google and your fills will be free. You just need to find some transportation.

Dont feel depressed. I understand completely!!! I had surgery in March too. I lost about 18 and now have gained it all back! I know how you feel. I had the surgery thinking that by the time my 30th yr. reunion came around I would have lost a lot of weight, boy was I wrong. So I didn't go to the reunion. I have felt the same way, it worked for everyone else but me. However, I refuse to give up. Hang in there, dont be hard on yourself. Your time will come. And as for the age difference. I had the same problem only it was not a problem. My boyfriend could care less about me being older!

Go to the wedding have fun. Just keep your head up!

Leener, don't give up hope. You may find a way to get a fill or your band may just become more restrictive. When it is hot, my band gets tight. This is July so maybe the heat will cause some restriction for you. If nothing else, usually appetites go down in the heat. How much are fills if you self-pay? Can you start putting aside money every week to save for one?

Go and enjoy the wedding. Appreciate your relationship. These opportunities don't come around every day so we need to enjoy today. Celeste

Hey Leener ~ You have been through bigger trials than this, not to discount what your feeling. I just know what you've faced over the past few months. I can't remember....are you taking any antidepressants? If not, you may need some. Your body has been through a lot including the weight you've lost so far.

Here's 3 facilities in NJ you may want to check out if they are within a reasonable driving distance. They are from this medicare approved list: http://www.cms.hhs.gov/MedicareApprovedFacilitie/BSF/list.asp?filterType=none&filterByDID=-99&sortByDID=4&sortOrder=ascending

AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center02/24/2006NJ

Saint Barnabas Medical Center02/24/2006NJ

You are definitely in good hands with Funny regarding the dress. Doesn't she have a heart of gold? Here are a couple of sites I buy from and they do have a few formal dresses that you may want to consider. They are a little cheaper and not the quality of Nordstroms, but they would get you by. Maybe Funny can take a peek as well for you.

Chadwicks: http://www.chadwicks.com/Department.aspx?DeptId=9703

Lane Bryant: http://www.lbcatalog.com/lbcatalog/layout/Layout.asp?dept_id=825&rootdept=600&

I had one of those wraps done when I was going to Physicians Weight Loss Center. I'm sure it was cheaper than what they charge at the spas. I was a little disappointed that my fat popped back out b/c they didn't really explain the process.....you just lost inches. I lost inches as they promised, but it didn't last. Those fat cells like to breath. :phanvan Live & learn I guess.

Hang in there sweetie and keep your chin up. You are a very special person INSIDE and will be on the outside too. Keep the faith and I'll be praying for you.

Leenerbumps, I sure think you're a lucky gal...you've got a personal shopper and lots of support here!

One thing that helped me become less self-conscious was that I learned that very few people actually pay attention to other people. Think about that. Most people are really only thinking about themselves, their date, their DH or DW, etc. If they are so mean they are busying themselves by looking around at others and being critical of them, yuck. It would suck to be them.

I think you'll look great! Carry yourself with pride and attitude!

the halter dress with a wrap is a VERY good idea. i am from georgia and it is still quite HOT in september, don't forget the humidity, too. this way, you could wear a wrap that is very loosely woven and just cover up as little or as much as you want to!!

leener, I'm so sorry about the issue with your fill. I certainly hope you're able to resolve it very soon and/or find a place for a fill. Andy's quote below sums up what I would have said.

My advice is to concentrate on what a great person you are, get a fabulous dress and just be yourself. Your boyfriend loves you for who you are and he had to have learned that from his family, right? They're probably just as wonderful as he is and if not, they can go screw themselves!

Now, onto dresses. Here are some links from a great site I found a few years ago - www.alight.com. I got my search results by doing the following:

clicking on shop category of dresses and then by Social + Evening dresses

http://www.davidsbridal.com/social_dresses_detail.jsp?stid=2208&prodgroup=54 - I love the simplicity of this one

And some links from another site - www.igigi.com

When we first heard of the wedding, I thought I'd be looking good by then. But I have been without a fill since my surgery in March. My band is just sitting there and I'm getting hungry and I'm gaining the weight I lost during the first weeks out of surgery

Leenerbups - Why are fills so expensive? you may want to look into a cheap SWA flight into St. Louis, my Dr. only charges $50 per fill.

Also, for the outfit, try a full skirt it hides a big middle nicely. Oh and a deep wrap style V top. Or a fun of the shoulder top with those comfy black pants that never wrinkle.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
