Weightloss Expectations

I'm just beginning to explore the possibility of having VSL. The research I've read on-line says one can reasonably expect to lose up to 50-70% of their "overage" in the first year. For me, that would be roughly 70 lbs (which would DELIGHT me!).

Are your results meeting your expectations, seriously?

I would really be happy just to get to 180lbs (down from (260 lbs). I don't have to weight 160 lbs.... does that sound reasonable? Achievable?

I think this is reasonable if you stay on plan. I have lost 78 pounds in less than a year. I have 14 to go. That is over 87% excess weight loss. I am not perfect, do not eat meat (there for I eat more carbs than most) and am a "slow" loser... and still managed to do this. I do exercise 4 days a week.

I'm only a week out but losing 86 lbs. would put me at my 'skinny' ideal weight of 150 at 5'8". I started at 236 and am down 10 lbs today at one week out. 10 down, 76 to go!!!

I'm 56 and have lost whatever my ticker says, 79 I think. I hit a normal BMI six weeks ago, so I have lost 100% of my "excess weight" and am losing some more so I can have a little wiggle room with the holidays coming.

165 LBS in 9 months, the results have FAR EXCEEDED my expectations, I was accepting the fact that it would take me 2 years to get to where I am today.

I seem to have reached a plateau thought. I am technically still 20 lbs overweight at 210 lbs (NOT obese though) and having problems breaking though the 200 lb barrier. This is a FAR cry from the 375+ lbs I weighed this time last year. It's worth every dime and all the relatively minor misery I put myself through - and looking back I was FAR more miserable being fat and having all sorts of health issues.

I am about 3 months out and have lost 67lbs total, about 47 since surgery in july. if you are dedicated and dont stretch out your sleevie you can definately succeed. good luck to u!!:bat:

dance class twice a week, walk an hour twice a week and whatever on the weekends, gardening or something. I am sneaking in some Calanetics for the under arms too...just started that....

I think everyone loses weight at their own pace so comparing weight loss can be frustrating. I am down nearly 80 pounds at 5 months but for someone barely 5 ft. 1in. I was fairly large at nearly 300 lbs and I believe my body was thrilled at the opportunity to shed some weight. I haven't had "stalls", but because eating solid food has been a challenge (even this far out from surgery) my body may have gone into "starvation mode" and is hanging on to pounds for survival. I know you have to "eat" to lose. My "fantasy goal" is 160 lbs -- and I think that is possible -- realistically I'd be happy if I'm merely "overweight" and no longer "obese".

Try not to get too caught up in a numbers game -- measure success by how much better you feel, you move and enjoy living, being lighter.

I'm coming up on eight months out and about 80lb loss, so I've lost 80% excess in eight months. I THINK I want to get to 140 lb, but I might stick around 150 if I start looking too skinny or something.

I've lost 41 lbs since my surgery on August 16th. I do eat a lot of chicken and my Breakfast is either Protein Shake or carnation instant breakfast sugar free. I don't exercise like I am supposed to but getting better! I am glad I had the surgery!

I am 6 weeks pre-op. I need to lose 90-100 lbs. Once I reach goal, since I will continue to eat the same way, ounces and stuff, why wouldn't I keep losing weight? Obviously not to 0 (zero!) so what happens?

When you are at goal, you go into maintenance mode. Some simply eat what they have been, because their weight loss has come to a halt, others need to add calories in to maintain their new goal weight. I am losing very slowly at this point... and am adding some calories in to my daily plan to see how far I can go to stay the same. I mostly eat under 1200 calories a day at this point, and am thinking I will need to get up to around 1600 to stay the same at goal... I will see when I get there I guess! About a month ago or so, I added about 200 calories a day, and this helped me start losing again after a long stall. You will find that you can eat more and more (up to a point) as time goes by... the sleeve stretches a little and swelling goes down until it is going to stay the same size (assuming you don't stuff it until it hurts all the time!) I think I read this happens by around 8 months out. When you under eat, like we do on out losing plans, your body is burning excess fat to supply part of its energy needs, when you have lost the fat, then you need to eat enough to supply all of your energy needs. You do not eat the same ounces and calories the whole time you are losing. I started at about 1/4 cup at a sitting, and now I can eat quite a bit more...depending on what it is. Protein, about 1/2 cup... sliders and veggies up to 1 1/2 cups at a time. Each person will find these numbers and times a little diferent.. you need to discover the details of your life yourself. The Drs and we can give you guidelines, to point you in the general direction, but you will have to do the rest of the work yourself finding out what your body needs. Its all part of the adventure!

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
