Hi all from a newbie now two weeks from the big day (Oct 31). I've read a lot about the portion of the stomach to be removed being responsible for the production of the hunger hormone (ghrelin). I'm curious to hear from those who are already sleeved....how much has your hunger actually decreased compared to prior? And if you had any cravings prior (e.g. sweets), how much have those cravings decreased? Thanks in advance for any insight.

welcome to our sleeve family,

I'm almost one year out and I usually don't have hunger, I get more of an empty feeling. A few bites of food and I'm good. A few days a month during my TOM I'm hungry. I don't have any interests in carbs but still have a big sweet tooth. Good luck with your surgery, Janine

My hunger has decreased trememdously! I am so happy for that, as it is one of the main reasons I chose the Sleeve over the other surgeries. Most of the time I don't crave any sweets or carbs, and actually have the taste for the things I am should be eating like chicken. Chicken is my favorite meat. But that's not to say if I am around stuff, that it doesn't "look good". It is a lot easier post-op for me to resist temptation of eating the wrong things. Before I would get the irresistable urge to have something, and it wouldn't stop until I had what I wanted. My hunger and cravings pretty well controlled me. Not anymore!! I am so thankful for the sleeve, and feel really blessed. Good luck to you on your surgery date!!

:)

I'm 2 months post-op and I tend to have really bad cravings late at night. Night-time snacking was my problem before surgery, too. I'm not hungry during the day unless I haven't eaten for awhile (and I can't eat that much anyway).

Around my period I want lots of chocolate and starchy comfort food, but I'm trying to ignore those cravings. It's a common saying here that they do surgery on your stomach but not your brain!

But overall, my hunger has decreased dramatically. I don't think about food or my next meal all day anymore. I still like food and tasty things, but it isn't a big part of my life now.

My hunger has decrease a lot BUT i still get hungry. I still have cravings and make bad choices sometime. But i do eat so much better than pre-op thats for sure. I was very disappointed that i didn't lose my hunger as some sleevers. But its not as bad as before. My hardest time is usually in the afternoon or late evening. :(

Same with me!! My hunger has decreased alot BUT, I do still get hungry and it is mainly in the late afternoon & evening.

I "thought" my hunger would be gone like so many others have posted.

I am just over 2 months out and my hunger is still there. It depends on the day though, sometimes I forget to eat but on most days I do feel hungry, just not as much as I was before surgery. Good luck!

I am 6 months out and still do not get hungry. I have head hunger still this far out and fight it as much as I can. I have noticed that right after I work out I do crave Protein right away. Night time is my enemy when it comes to the head hunger thing though. The hormone you are talking about does get produced in other parts of your body after a while but not sure how long that takes.

I am almost 2 1/2 years out from surgery and really , I am rarely hungry. Head hunger is another story, but luckily I know the difference.

If I really keep my carbs low, I don't crave sweets. If I let those nasty carbs into my life, I am usually very sorry. Carbs make me crave sweets. If I keep my carbs under 30 per day, I don't crave sweets.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
