Buyers remorse ... not losing weight and kind of sad ...

Recommended Posts

Thanks everyone for the hugs and well wishes. In my mind I KNOW I am better off with the surgery but I can't help getting a little depressed when I look at the scale. I think I'm going to force myself to only get on it 1 time per week. I am a scale o holic normally. I'm talking several times a day. It's crazy how that number can change my entire mood!

In regards to my starting weight I've NEVER told anyone how much I weigh. Waaaay too embarresing for me. I even tell my Dr. to look away! LOL Let's just say I am on the higher end of the weight scale. Which means my weightloss shouldn't have slowed down yet.

I measured myself the day before surgery and since 8/16 this is what's happened. NOTE: My daugher is doing the measuring sooo I "hope" it's in the same place everytime she's 13 and let's just say ... this is a TRYING time. I won't even get started on that stress .... Moving on ...

Start 8/16 Today 9/17

R arm 17 15

L arm 17 15

Bust 52 50

Waist 49 47

Hips 55 53

R thigh 31 31

L thigh 32 31

Girl, you're doing great! You'll be into your skinny jeans in no time. Keep your head up (and keep off the scale)!

You didn't do this for nothing. You barely had surgery a month ago. It takes time!

Watch your carb intake and you will lose weight. We all go through these plateaus where we think we aren't losing fast enough.

I also am a month out and lost 16 pounds. I think 16 pounds is a great number for one month. That averages 4 pounds a week that I would never have lost without the sleeve. Sure it may be slower than you would like or not as fast as others weight loss but I am sure weight will continue to come off. I hope you don't get to discouraged.

it sounds like both of our minds are on the same page in the same book.

my loss has been much slower than i expected, i've only lost 22lb since surgery and i was expecting more like 60lbs by now.

i don't kno wat i'm doing wrong or wat's going on but this is not wat i was expecting at all.

i haven't voiced my feelings of regret out loud but they are def in my head.

your not alone hun! i'm right here standing right next to you.

I have decided I will ONLY get on the scale Saturday mornings. This way I won't drive myself crazy all week several times a day. I'm trying to remain confident because I know this HAS to work for me.

I like to weigh myself 1st thing in the morning naked after i go potty! I feel thats the true weight! Cause weight will fluctuate during the day when you eat and drink and with what you wear. I also weigh my self every 2, 3 or 4 days. I have a pencil and paper hidden with the towels and I log the date and how much I weigh in at! I have one of those scales that even give oz.'s.! Even though tempted, I dont get on at any other time during the day.

Hi Sunny702,

I have a similar situation. Pre surgery I lost 20 lbs. I had my surgery on 8/8/11 at my 3 week check up I lost another 19lbs. I haven’t lost one pound in 3 weeks. I am supposed to go back to the doctors on 9/30/11 and my doctor wanted me to lose another 15 lbs. I am a little stressed because the scale has not moved. I don’t think I would be stressed if my doctor didn’t give me a goal. I wouldn’t feel too bad if he told me to lose 15lbs and I was down 10lbs…but I haven’t lost a single pound. I hope this stall ends soon.

I think 16lbs is wonderful!

If there is a pity party going on, I should be the belle of the ball!!!!

I am horribly depressed over my situation. I am only down 3lbs since my surgery on 8/25. Yep, 3lbs.

It was 6lbs at one point but I seem to have added 3lbs over the last couple of weeks.

My husband has hidden the scale and I am only allowed to have it on Monday mornings for 5min.

I have only been on mushy foods for a few days and know its not what I am eating.

I walk 4 days a week for 30min. I just did 35 actually.

I don't know what is going on and I am incredibly sad.

Seriously, there's nothing we can do about the stall. It will come of when it's ready to. I think of weight loss like a feather... when you drop it, it falls, but catches a wind and floats up a little before it falls some more. Just keep getting in your Protein, making healthy choices, and using your sleeve to it's full potential and the feather will eventually hit the ground.

Love the feather analogy :) Great way of looking at it!!!!

It seems the body is a wonderful and frustrating thing!!! We go through all this trouble jumping through massive amounts of loops for insurance or saving/borrowing/charging our pennies if we are self pay. Then hop up on that table and count backwards until the lights go out. All the while praying that THIS IS IT FINALLLY!!! Then we eat sample sizes of food and exercise and you would think that our bodies would fall in line and just get with the freakin program!!! Gotta laugh to keep from crying. :-(

WE WILL SURVIVE ... AND BE SMOKIN HOT WHILE DOING IT!! :-)

I was embarrased about my weight also just like you but then I thought about it and said damnit yes 372 pounds is where I was before I started to take charge of my life and do something about it. I used to wanna hide that number in the back of my mind but now I will tell anyone that asks me because Im not ashamed anymore. I did something about it and you did too. I wanna run around and tell the world now that there is hope for me and everyone out there now suffering from the same issue that I have. Its not gonna be easy by any means physically or mentally but now we have this thing to help us in our struggle. I admire every single person on this site that was brave enough to say enough is enough and had this drastic means of changing their lives including you. We will all get through this thing one way or the other because we have each other as a helping hand. In about a year from now you'll be laughing at how silly it sounded thinking you wont lose the weight. You'll do it, keep the same faith as before you had the surgery! :D

Our bodies have to get used to the new weight before it will up more. Going on plateaus are really frustrating but eventually the scale starts dropping again.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
