need advice re: constant sleeve pain

Recommended Posts

I've been having trouble with my sleeve this week, and I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar difficulties:

I had my surgery on June 8th, but due to a leak I was on IV nutrition only until a few weeks ago. Since then I've progressed up to soft foods (low-fat cheese, eggs, fish, etc.), and I wasn't having any trouble until Tuesday, when I had prepared a Breakfast of EggBeaters with a little low-fat cheese & a few spices. I took a few bites, and immediately lost my appetite. Shortly after that, I had a stomachache that lasted a day & a half. It eventually went away on its own, and Thursday I tried that Breakfast again, with the same results. This time, though, the stomachache has stayed.

I've tried going back to very soft foods, then Clear liquids, but it doesn't seem to make much difference what I eat or drink, or even whether I eat or drink, the stomachache stays. No nausea or vomiting except briefly Thursday morning. I'm on a liquid antacid (Zantac), but that doesn't seem to be helping either. When I do eat, I measure all my food, so I know I'm not eating too much.

I'd have thought that any post-surgical swelling would be gone by now, and I can't think of what else could be causing this problem. Thoughts, anyone?

Since you had a leak, I'd definitely call your surgeon or nutritionist right away. Just in case, you never can be too safe . . . good luck!

Have you been running fever? Even if you haven't, I wouldn't take chances, I'd call the dr asap. I hope you feel better soon.

eggs are hard to go down....don't know why but esp. scrambled. I would try something else. Did they do any tests on you after the leak to make sure you are not still leaking?

With the eggs, it surprised me because I'd had them a few times before this happened with no problems.

No fever, and the pain is different & in a different location than when they found the leak the first time. But to be safe, I just got off the phone with the local advice nurse (I have Kaiser insurance) & they're sending a message to the doctor on call. Hopefully they'll get back to me soon.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
