Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

I havent gained gained but right now I'm at a stall where my weight is fluctuating between 217 and 222 and it's driving me crazy, I havent had this before. I need to get to 215 to feel like i've broken the stall/gain. I think it has to do with my thyroid and D levels this time of year so I've been more strict with my supplements and it seems to be creeping back down now. This morning I was at 218

Im still bouncing around 200. Contacted Nut. Found my T3 is low so added cytomel but still tired and still triggered by evening...emotions...boredom...and still eating only 'good' stuff but eating it all. Im proud ofbwhat ive done for me...accomplished this year, loved being 188. Hate my weight and obsession with it. Happy new year, guys.

HI Y'all,I wanted to do some research with REAL people instead of reading about it in some report. I'm wondering how much weight (IF ANY) you have gained since being sleeved. I go up between 1-3 lbs. so my answer would be 1-5 lbs. I'm curious to see how this goes. Thanks!

I have gotten down to 154 but, since the holidays are here, I'm up to 157- 160. So I'd say I'm in the 1-5 range. Not too bad but, enough to notice it...

I was at 160 going into the Christmas holiday season. I went up a pound or two but have gotten back down to 160 today. So basically I did enjoy all the goodies in Very very limited portions and then settled back into my regular diet after Christmas. Trust me, I am happy with that. Years before I would have gained 10 lbs and never gotten it off! I know I have to weigh ever day. If I go up I know I have to be more diligent in my food choices that day. I have just joined the Y so now my hopes are to tone up a bit and lose my last 10 lbs to reach my next goal. Then on to the next goal! Love my sleeve!

The body naturally fluctuates in weight due to Water retention and wastes. Weight is not a very good assumption of gains. Body fat percentage would be a much more accurate measurement of gains. You'd still have to account for standard deviations and dismiss any data that falls within that range. Studies and reports are based on real people but can be easily conducted poorly.

Hey everyone, I've been missing in action for a long time so I'm back. I have gained 10 lbs since my lowest and now have to get myself back on track. I have 5 other adults that live in my house and the younger adults bring in all kinds of crap.....:( It really hurts me because I make the stupid choices of putting that crap in my mouth. So it is my fault that I gained. I got really nauseated taking my Vitamins, even after eating and so I stopped taking my vitamins. Now my skin is so dry, my hair is dry and breaking, and my body is aching.

So I am working on getting back on track with eating Protein, protein, protein, and cutting the sugars out of my diet. I am a sugar addict. LOL So now it is detoxing. I am going to have a talk with the younger adults and go through the cupboards and clean them out of all the horrible foods. The good news is, I can do this, just have to get out of the old habits that came back into my life. Need to exercise too.....

Welcome back ms skinniness. Glad you are tackling the regain at 10 lbs. Keep us posted on your journey to recommit. I find that fish oil capsules help with the dry skin.

Have you tried whole food based vitamins? My mom turned me on to them even before surgery. She has all kinds of GI issues (lactose and gluten intolerances, tons of food allergies, reflux, etc) and she always had problems taking vitamins. She finally discovered she could tolerate whole food based ones. She uses Source of Life Gold and I use Garden of Life Vitamin Code for Women. You might try something like that and even start out with 1/4 or 1/2 dose to see how it goes. I have also seen liquid vitamins that you could try tiny doses at a time throughout the day. We (Bariatric patients) are prone to so many deficiencies (90% of gastrectomy patients have an Iron, B12, Calcium, or Vitamin D deficiency within 2-10 years). So it is very important to get on the right supplements or you WILL have problems long term. And make sure you are getting regular bloodwork, including full vitamin and mineral panels every 6-12 months to monitor your levels. Even without insurance paying, I've been able to have it done Between $150-$200 each time.

I will order some whole food based Vitamins. I have the Raw for Women with the pink label and I believe it's the B complex that does it. So I will research and see if they have a Gummy one too.. I have Kaiser and I have been consistently bugging my PCP for blood work up the first couple of years but have been avoiding lately due to my poor eating choices...I will call and schedule an appt with him this coming week. Thank you.

Good luck. I hope you find something that works. I actually had high Calcium and Iron at 6 months, so I stopped taking those supplements. I'm getting my 12 month labs done on Tuesday, so will see if I have to make any changes.

You're not doing anything wrong except needlessly stressing over meaningless numbers. Just follow your surgeon's guidelines, concentrate on Protein, fluids and Vitamins and don't step on the scale for another month.

You're right. I guess I'm stressing so much. Thank you. =)

There is no way you are gaining any real weight the way your eating.. it has to be swelling and Water. I gained 10 pounds after surgery. It came off and more. Get ready for stalls and such... just do what you need to do, and it will move in the right direction.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
