i was sleeved 4 days ago on aug 11th, i woke up in recovery and was in a tremendous amount of pain from the gas. friday while i was in the hospital i had a mild/pain/panic attack the gas pain was really kicking my butt.

back to the point, i'm home and a had a few baby spoonfuls of mashed potatos yesterday and it seemed as if they were pushing the gas out but the pain is so much i can't tell wat's going on.

whenever i drink something if it's too much of a sip then it hurts right in my chest area.

fyi, my dr puts us on mushies for the first two weeks and then regular food after that. and yes i've been walking and taking gas-x.

one of my incision sites is still really painful, i've got pain in my shoulders and in my neck. i called the dr to see if i could get some stronger meds bcuz the tramadol is not working at all, he should return my call this morning.

my question is 'is there still gas there or is this actually pain from the trauma of having my first major surgery?'

i'm a lil concerned bcuz the pain is really stopping me from eating anything and sipping as much as i'm supposed to.

definitely talk to your surgeon's office right away, but the pain in the shoulder area can be more gas. If you're not tolerating the mushy food well, you might back off from that and go back to liquids only (and make sure you're getting your protein). Good Luck!

I can totally sympathize with your pain. I was in horrible pain for the first several days. I think it's the trauma that you've put your body through that's making you hurt so bad. We have to remember that this was major surgery and it will take your body 4-6 weeks to recover, de-swell, and calm down. Of course if you're worried, you should still talk to your surgeon. I feel for you though. Sending quick recovery prayers your way :)

From my experiences, the pain was caused by taking too big of a drink, too big of a bite and not waiting long enough between bites/drinks. The baby spoon is the way to go though, that's for sure. Go slower with your intake and listen/feel what your new tummy is saying. It helps me to take a bite, put the spoon down, sit back in the chair and wait a minute or two for the next bite. The farther out from surgery you are, the less you'll have to do that. My hubby worries every time I take a minute to "rest" that I'm going to throw up  And, since you're not that far out from surgery, I'd say go back to liquids for a few days and give your tummy more of a chance to heal and let the swelling go down.

I don't know who your doctor was, but he doesn't seem to have a decent post-op plan for you. My Doctor's instructions: Clear Liquids for TEN days; full liquids for TEN days; then Mushes for TEN days. No solid food at all for three or four weeks. Of course, I couldn't do that, but you pay the price when you lay something in there even just one or two bites: it HURTS. You don't need food at this stage; you need fluids, fluids, fluids; Water drinks, broths, some chewy Vitamins and some tolerable Protein powder to mix with the drinks and broth, AND two prilosecs, and many GasX pills, strips, and chewies a day. Potatoes, rice, breads; heading for trouble fast. Good Luck.

I'm in the same boat, sleeved on the 8th. I had bad gas pain in my shoulder, but it was gone in a day. It hurts to eat anything. Jello, ice pops, Water all hurt going down, but I'm sure this will go away as soon as the inflammation goes down. Hang in there, this is all normal.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
