I'm home and banded!!!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Yes, I"M BANDED!!!!!!!!!!! I got home yesterday but only to find my Gateway laptop (1800.00 laptop that is) had an accident while I was gone. My 18 year old son says a monster came and broke the liquid plasma screen. Now we have monsters. So now I'm having to sit in the office on ole faithful.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and thoughts and Vera's call, that was sweet. Mexico was everything I thought and more. The hospitals and guest house were wonderful.

I could never ever ever say enough about how wonderful Dr. Sanchez's team is. They are top notch. He is the kindest most caring thing and Dr. Rod and Suzanne and alma is fabulous and Marlene and Mario, well all of them. If any of you have any reservations, dont.

I've been banded since Monday and today as soon as I got up I felt 90 %. I walked, I did my liquids and I feel great. The hardest thing I'm having to get use to is the small sips, it is easy to forget. I got a little bit hungry yesterday. We had flown all day and my husband took me in there for the broth off of the Soup and just seeing those muffins made me hungry. So, the band is there but the mental stuff is very much still there.

I haven't suffered yet from the gas, hope I dont and my incisions look great. Is it normal to get a little tummy hunger, down low? Yesterday I eat 2 of the 1 oz. jellos, sugarfree, and drank liquids and had about 3 oz. of broth but I did get a little bit hungry. Of course, I know there's no fill yet.

Amy and me and Tracey had a wonderful time. I now how two wonderful new friends. Amy's a hoot, believe me. LOL Her husband Rob is very sweet.

I guess I'll go drink some more Water and try to find out what to do about my laptop. Does anyone know if they can replace the lid or am I going to have to buy whole new laptop?

Love you guys,

Sherri

Guess I need to change my signature now.

Hi Sherri, congrats on your new band. Just an FYI. My hunger didn't come back for a couple of weeks. Take advantage of that. You don't have restriction until you get a fill so when you go to solids you may find that you can eat more than you think. With that being said, you also may find that you do not feel hungry for the first 6 months. Its totally up to your body. Make sure you stay on the doctor recommended diet. I went off on week 2 and got in trouble by my surgeon (bite of chicken). Be good to yourself. Now is the time to heal. Welcome to bandland! Its so exciting and you'll do great.

So Glad to hear your home. Everytime I've gone to Monterrey (guest house) is was like a Jello party and I've never kissed so many people like I do down there, the staff is so loveing. Alma is a kick in the pants and Dr. Suzanna would always baby me.

Sherri you have the cutest voice, hope I didn't freak you out when I called, I was thinking about you girls.:clap2:

Keep up the Water and protien drinks. Walk walk walk!

Your right on the computer screen. My husband took it this afternoon and they said 800.00 plus. I'm going to kill my 18 yr old baby of a son. He's 6'9" and thinks mama can't handle him. ha

Thanks so much for the call Vera, it was very sweet, and yes, I've never been kissed that many times by my husband of 25 years. LOL

Dr. Sanchez give me a hug and then he kissed me on the forehead min. before surgery. He's a doll. alma, is precious and beautiful. They were all wonderful.

Woo hoo! Welcome to bandland! The liquid stage is horrible but boy does it make you appreciate even the small portions of mushy food we get to eat at the next stage!!

Best wishes!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
