I'm in on a colon cleanse. I just know I'm bulked up in there unneccesarily. Boy, would I love to get rid of some gunk. That is just NASTY!!! I WANT IT OUT!!!! But I can't afford a colonic. It's got to be something I drink, and inexpensive...geez.

How about Mineral Oil?!

I'm SUPER interested in this thread, so ya'll keep posting, links and all!

Psyllium is the primary product in the vast majority of colon cleansers, and yes, it creates thick bulk, it's what is passed out in great amounts on cleanses. Psyllium can and has caused blockages in people, and it's generally -not- recommended for people with gastro-intestinal irregularies, so I would think it would be contraindicated for people with the band. I would definitely check in with your bariatric surgeon whether he feels that using a large dose of psyllium over a period of time would be safe for bandsters.

As for the parasites... funny story! I've eaten raw fish (sushi!) approximately 2x a week for the last 25 years. I recently noticed little white specks in my bowel movements and got paranoid that I had a parasites. I went and got my stool checked in the lab, no no parasites. Still had white specks... insisted on a second check for parasites.. I'm 37 dammit, a massive sushi eater, exposure to lots of dogs, cats, and kids, some of whom have had worms.. I was so sure I was totally wormy... LOL, I insisted on a 3rd test, nope, no parasites... I chatted with my Dr. about my concerns over the little round white things in my movements that looked like worm eggs. He laughed, he reminded me that I was on effexor time release medication... he asked me if I had any on me, I did, I opened up my purse, he asked for a capsule... he opened the capsule.. he said "is this what they look like?" I felt so silly!!! I was passing part of my meds that hadn't broken down yet! Not worm eggs after all. So despite my fears, and three lab tests on stool samples later... mystery solved!

XO

Leila

:)

Oh man.... I want it, NOW! lol

Wowee...

Telly, the stuff you took, was it a 'bulky' thing, like say, how Metamucil when you add Water and drink it gets really thick and stuff... I know when I used to take psyllium husks (thanks for nothing, Atkins :mmph:), that it got really thick. Would it be possibly not a good thing for bandsters to do, perhaps? I guess, you'd just wanna chug a lot of water... hhmmmm......

MORE! MORE! I need more colon cleansing experiences!!!!

You know Telly, you win, that was hurtful, and cruel, score for you. You win because I was never in 'fight' for winning or losing, I'm sorry that having an opinion different than the popular one on this topic, and for trying to post information to be helpful for people has led to this kind of personal attack.

I have to take meds every day, twice a day, I suffer from severe depression, and you know what, I don't cope well with people attacking me, particularly on such a personal level. When something brings me to tears, I'm out. I'm out of this thread. I'm off to see if there is a block option for users - If I'm going to stick around and get positive support and info from people on here, I have to protect myself from this stuff. Sorry, it's me thats weak, and I fully admit it, I -can't- take what you dish out, so in case I can't block you, I wave the white flag of surrender, just do me a favor, and never write to me again. Your stronger, tougher, smarter, and you've proven it, leave me alone.

Leila, have you had your meds today?

Glad to hear you are okay. Being on Antidepressents like Effexor, you can't take herbal supplements, so be careful if you were planning on cleansing.

It's my own damn fault, I don't know why I can't just stay out of it. I honestly just wanted to let people know of some possible risks... I should know from being in online communities for years that whenever you disagree with people, someone is going to take it personally, and then make it personal. Problem is, I'm not a toughie, and I get very reactive, partly because of my depression. I should protect myself better, and just resist the impulse to type things that might be controversial. I've just put Telly on ignore, and I'll just try to keep a lower profile here, I just wish I had thicker skin, so I could participate in discussion like this, voice my opinion, and -not- go to pieces if someone gets nasty. It just gets tiring living life trying to avoid 'stress', but you don't get to pick and choose your weaknesses. I might take a short break from the forums, not sure, I get such good support and info here sometimes, it's a tough call to make.

Don't feel responsible or bad, really. Laying blame anywhere doesn't help anyone.

Wow... that was low.

Sorry, Leila, I shouldn't have even brought this thread back around. :)

I'm not here to win points. It was an honest question. Was just that I saw you writing books and books on this subject of colon cleansings and you showed soo much compassion, which was cool but, it made me wonder.

What I've noticed about you is that you take a keyword such as "drinking" as in the GFG thread and went into a whole "alcoholism" thing on that person, practically accusing her of being an alcoholic. Then in another thread someone mentioned, if I can remember correctly.."ice cream cravings" and you went into a whole addiction thing and your expertise on addictive disorders which had me worried about you. So the question was valid.

Hope you get better though. Depression is no joking matter.

Leila ~ I'm going to PM you. My doc switched me to the Effexor 12 hr b/c he said I couldn't take the capsule for the Effexor XR. Do I understand you correctly that is what you take?

You are being a real person and you shouldn't feel stupid or small b/c of what happened regarding your concerns of the white spots. It was a legitimate concern. Sounds to me like you have a smart doc on top of things.

As for Telly, I know there are some on here that offend more often than others, but just take it tongue n' cheek and write it off as her sense of humor. You are NOT weak.....you are a wonderful part of LBT and block any user that makes you feel uncomfortable. This place has too much to offer and you will come across users that you just don't jive with....block them and go on.

Being on Antidepressents like Effexor, you can't take herbal supplements, so be careful if you were planning on cleansing.

I wasn't aware of this. What is this all about? Help me understand. :)

Herbal remedies have (not all but a lot do) natural antidepressents in them and would counteract with the man made ingredients used in doc prescribed meds. Not to say that man made is bad---you just can't mix them.....like if you took St.John's wart with effexor...they both do the same thing, so a person could end up taking meds and still being depressed....very dangerous. This is stated in the pamplet you received (if you didn't get one--make sure you ask your pharmacist for one)...I am a huge believer in reading up on those pamplets!! Like telling my mom she has to ixnay the grapefruit juice while on blood pressure meds---which she didn't know...might as well be taking M&M's then!!!

A few years ago when I found my daughter eating a half an orange as her meal...I decided to get certified so that I can tell her that she wasn't being a healthy eater. I had always been skinny --I mean really skinny...5'6" and 105 lbs...gained weight after 3 kids. I figured if I had legitimate knowledge she would listen to me. I have 3 certifications now: Personal Trainer, Sports Nutrition, and Holistic Health. Learned a lot....hmm if I could just motivate myself. (although now that I am here I am totally motivated!)

I am constantly reading labels and books and anything else health related to gain knowledge and get healthy...my doc said I should have gone into medicine. (I chose Psychology, Education, and History-go figure!)

As you know I was on the colon cleanse board -which i have left for good! I have this great book called the 7-Day Detox ...I got it from a doctor at one of the seminars I attended...he and his wife actually tried it and loved it...like you Telly, they felt great and their energy and skin improved immensly! I have to review it again, as I am not sure if it can be done once banded...but it is all liquid so I don't see why not.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
