It will be fun, going to see the Rugby world cup...definitely will be a good distraction. Tho will be hard being around all the drunk people and not being able to drink. Tho I am not a big drinker, i enjoy the odd social drink :)

You are welcome to ditch the potty training kids (leave them with hubby) and join us in NZ :) Luckily for me NZ is just a few hours flight from here. I will see if i can post some pics when I get back. Atleast being around people will be help keep the nerves down.

I am not looking forward to clears either, but luckily I am not on them before, so am hoping it wont be too bad having them afterwards as i will be recovering. Tho I imagine I will be over liquids quickly. But should be happily on full food by the time I get to New York in November....

BTW Back patted! Thank you!

I'll pack my bags and be with you in spirit ( lol) and I would love to see pictures. I too enjoy the occasional drink. I believe we are the lucky ones to not be in a habit of daily drinking, it will be less of a loss for us. One lady on here said she would get cranberry juice on the rocks and she didn't feel out of place. I think I would prefer a virgin strawberry Margareta. Yum!

Now you are talking my language, I love love love strawberry margaritas, well most margaretas :)

I like the cranberry juice on the rocks, for the initial stages...no-one will need to know it doesnt have a dash of vodka in it.

I agree it would be so hard to have to give up alcohol as well as food, if I drank it everyday. Talk about detox. We can bring it back in eventually, everything in moderation.

I will let you know of all the fun we are having.....being single (me) I will be checking out the fit rugby players. They also have naked rugby competition that i thnk would be funny to see (or not see) as it is freezing cold down there .

Are you almost ready for your liquid diet?

I blushed and threw my head back to laugh at the naked rugby competition. The fact that a man would do that to himself in the freezing cold cracks me up. Sock anyone??? How are you doing on your diet? It's odd, I have mixed feelings about going on the liquid diet. I dread being hungry, yet it means the beginning to a whole new healthy life.

No room for padding in those rugby matches lol. Men are a bit crazy in my experience, especially aussie and kiwi men, any excuse to get naked...its quite odd.

My diet is going well, I am in ketosis, I feel every symptom. I had the biggest wave of energy on Sunday/Monday like I couldnt sit still, now all the other fun symptoms, nausea, fatigue and feeling cold. And the taste is my mouth is probably the worst of all the symptons, I have been chewing on sugar free gum constantly. But strangely I dont really feel hungry, maybe cause I am still able to eat, but generally just dont want or need to.

And I am loosing weight, approx 10pounds (in 5 days). This morning was the first morning where my weight has stayed exactly the same, the other days it has been jumping numbers.

While the above is not exactly what I would call fun, I know it is the beginning of someting, I look forward to the end of October when things will be looking up.

I am trying to be positive about everything, it is my goal to not let things get me down through the next coming weeks. You know keep an eye on the light at the end of the tunnel ya know.

What do you get to have on your liquid phase? Soups or only clear liquids/broths etc.

I so enjoy our conversations, and I love men's inhibitions... I think you are fantastic loosing 10 lbs in 5 days. I hope to emulate you.I can have anything I can see through for my Clear Liquids. I have bought drinks and broths that have Protein in them. I love to think positively about the whole experience. I want to be smart about it as well. I need to plan out how to have 60 Proteins. I hear too many people going under. best wishes.

I got up at 5am this morning to get my colonoscopy. I have had one of these every other year for the last 9 years, but this year I am having it early so we know I'm ok for my surgery and I feel like I am slightly short of breath.I am feeling better just acknowledging this to you.I believe it is getting real now, not just a hopeful plan.My husband is in the kitchen making pancakes for our children when they wake up and we are waiting for our oldest son to get here after work to watch our children and get them on the school bus. It's funny how the days are slipping away. To start the liquid diet they make you take a dieretic...it was an ...interesting day....lost 8 lbs. I guess we know what I'm full of. lol How is your diet going? The smell of food dances in my head and makes me hungry and my stomach speaks a language I don't want to know!

Congrats on the 8pounds that is amazing...hope you are still going strong. Must be hard with the pancakes around and not being able to eat them. My stomach or maybe my head would have been calling out for them.

Hope the colonoscopy went well.

My diet was going OK, cept I can barely stand the taste, texture of these Optiafast stuff anymore, they are making me ill everytiime I eat them. I did cheat yesterday, as I was out for a work lunch and had a seafood salad, which was really some shrimp and smoked salmon (fresh) with lettuce. However it made me sooo ill afterwards I am fearful of how things will go down after the op. My body did not like food....very odd sensation.

I am at the airport waiting for my flight to NZ, looks like it will be full of Aussies going to the Rubgy, there is green and gold everywhere. Should be an interesting flight.

Hope you enjoy your camp!

I will check in after I get back...tell you some stories...and get ready for surgery :)

We had a great time at camp.No tv, no phone. We zip lined, paint ball, and the kids had their face's painted, ate junk, and played in bouncy rooms. I envy the seafood salad, but not the illness. Do you think the seafood was bad, or it was because of the dieting? I hope you're doing better now and having an adventure before our Wensday.

I definitely think it was the diet. But I guess I have learned for afterwards.

Tommorow is D- Day.

So feeling very nervous now.

New Zealand was fun but it was interesting to see how much food plays a part in social interactions. The whole food thing was very hard, Lets just hope my liver has shrunk enough.

Good luck with your travels....Hope everything goes well your surgery and recovery (as I do mine lol).

Check in after you are up and about, we can compare recovery stories.

Hey,

I just wanted to check in and see how everything is going with you? Hope your surgery has gone well.

Here is my update.

Thursday, i got to the hospital and there was a bit of confusion about my room (have had 4 now), then got taken up to surgery. I was very stressed before the op, questioning whether I was doing the right thing etc. My blood pressure got really high.

But they gave me some initial drugs to relax me a bit, and a few of the nurses (male) were quite the eye candy, so that made it a bit easier. One of them was just holding my hand and I was like you can keep doing that. After that I was knocked out, and waking up in the ICU. I did have a bit of a hard time at first throwing up but that seems to have calmed down now.

I slept most of the first night, despite being in the ICU (and a few other patients were having a bad time), I just had my pain killers and slept through the night.

They moved me out into a ward the next morning, room with a good down to Sydney harbour, and my own room. I have had very little pain since the operation but a fair amount of gas which is not fun.

My doctor had me on nil by mouth for 36 hours, which thankfully today has stopped. Can now drink cordial, tea and lots of Water. The fluids are going down surprisingly well. The cordial tho is making me a bit sick as I have not had sugar for such along time.

But all in all (touch wood) everything has gone alot better than I had expected. Hopefully I will get to go home tommorow. They wanted to keep me in a bit longer cause of the throwing up after surgery and seeing as I am not self pay there is no hurry to send me home. BUt it will be nice to be in my own bed,

Once again, hope to hear from you soon and that everything has gone well for you.

I don't know how everyone does with this surgery, but did someone get the number of that truck that hit me? I hope you are doing well. I'm having a hard time getting liquids in. Blessings to you.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
