How many people get sick aver being sleeved? How many loose hair/how much

Recommended Posts

Do you lose half your hair? Or like see the scalp. Is it true 70% of people lose hair? To the point of people other than yourself notice? My doctor didn't offer this info. But the assistant had very thin hair and she had the sleeve. Also, how much sickness should I expect? My doctor told me not many of his patients do. But on here it seems common. Thanks soo much.

I heard rumors about Hair loss also but it all depends on your age range and dieting habits.

Hairloss seems to be pretty common in most sleevers. I started losing it about 4-5 months out and it lasted for about 2 months then grew back. I had alot of thick hair to begin with, so while it was pretty alarming to see so much of it in my hairbrush and the shower drain, it wasn't too bad. Some people I know have had it alot worse, so I felt pretty lucky. That being said, I felt like it was still worth it in the long run. Do I have thinner hair? Yes. Do I have saggy skin? Yep. Batwings? Got em. I wasn't wearing a bikini before I had this done and I am not disappointed that I am not wearing one now. This doesn't make you younger, it makes you healthier. I wouldn't trade my sleeve for anything.

I started losing my hair about 3 weeks out. Like 10-20 hairs when I would brush my hair. Now at 10 weeks out, I get about 20-30 hairs when I brush after washing. It is GROSS!! And very disturbing. But I knew it was going to happen and I had long hair, so I just got it bobbed off. It doesn't seem to be as bad now! I mean it still is happening, but I don't seem to have as much now that it is shorter. I am sure that it will only get worse as time goes on, but I have really thick hair and as long as I don't go bald, which I know I won't, I will be o.k. with it. My dr. says I should think of it as my TROPHY!! LOL

As far as being sick, I have NOT had one minute of nausea and have NOT thrown up once! YAY!! I am very careful to not overeat, I actually undereat my sleeve for fear of this. I also have not eaten anything I am not supposed to. I have not eaten sweets, bread, rice, Pasta, etc. I stick to Protein and a few fruits and well cooked veggies. That is about it! I follow my surgeons guidelines to the letter!!

I never was nauseous after surgery or up till now. I am very thankful that I have not had slimes or anything. I do stop when I don't feel hungry anymore, but have NEVER felt full since I was sleeved 5/9/11!! This works for me and I will keep doing it!!

I am 2 weeks post-op and am struggling with nausea right now. It didnt start until the beginning of the second week about day 8. My doctor says it is uncommon as well but he thinks it is because I am not drinking enough Protein but this is because I feel so sick...bleck...and nothing sounds good. I did find a shake today that is quite good and hoepfully will be the key since I can tolerate it. As for hair loss, he told me as long as I got my 50 grams of Protein in per day, I wouldn't lose my hair. I don't know how realistic this is, but that's what I know right now.

I have not experienced any nausea, throwing up or losing hair yet. I am worried about the temporary Hair loss too, but will gladly trade a little hair for obesity and diabetes. I was 10 wks out Mon. My type 2 diabetes is in remission. I am no longer on Glucophage/Metformin.

I try to get 80-100g Protein a day. 80 or more oz Water. I take Biotin, Multivitamin, Calcium, Vit D, Magnesium, Zinc, B12, Vit C. I was taking these pre-op also.

:)

I have not had any nausea or throwing up. I have been losing my hair tho. I started losing it about week 3.

It is not scary amounts, just like 20 strands everytime I wash and brush my hair. I have really thick hair and it is not noticeable at all.

I had a lot of Hair loss and had thin hair to begin with so definitely can see my scalp in spots. I opted NOT to do a wig b/c of the heat here in San Antonio this summer. It's stopped falling out but hasn't come back completely yet. My impression of readnig lots of posts on this issue is that usually only people with very thin hair to begin with show scalp. Most people seem to be able to hide it.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
