Anyone Wish They Had Not Done Their Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I am going for surgery next friday. Since past 2 years I know that the surgery will curtail the quantity of food I eat and a general ease of "tick, pick, lick and eat".

I am 35 and since over a decade living with a more guilt of eating than actually I ate.

I thought...... I am already half way through my life. I have been eating for 35 years, now I do not mind eating less for 35 years fearlessly.

About money, I do not mind spending my 3 - 4 month savings on myself. I am more important to my family in good health than my wealth.

I will go through hard one month for a smooth rest of the life...I can see a silver lining.

Keep yourself motivated folks!! We all will live a happy life everafter.

Cheers !!

I totally understand Tamz, I'm 2wks out tomorrow and my first week home my husband was working evenings so I was home alone watching Diners,Drive ins and Dives and literally crying because I knew I could never eat like that again. Not never taste that food but never eat a hugh cheeseburger and fries and coke and dessert. I'm from Louisiana and knowing I will forever be limited on the Delish foods was really like a mourning period. I knew it before surgery but it wasn't real to me like it was afterwards. Now though I have come to terms with my new life. Ive lost 23 lbs in 2 wks and those lbs will never be back on my body again so that is awesome.

I'm six weeks out - I never regretted it for a moment - as everyone said - the first few weeks were the hardest - my energy level came back up as I started adding in Protein and honestly for me one of the best things for me was going back to work after surgery where I wasn't constantly thinking about food. I went back 10 days after surgery and energy has been going up from there. I figure I've had plenty of time enjoying food, now I'm just going to enjoy it in moderation. = )

Tamz, if your friends know about your surgery, then go out for dinner!! Enjoy the company. Get Soup and drink the broth, get mashed potatoes. I did this and it made me feel normal after surgery. Yes I had a "talk" with myf riends and told them not to say a word about my eating, and you know what? I loved it!! My favorite burger is a chicken brushetta burger ( I love love love burgers) I now get a burger, sauce on the side with extra lettuce, and use the lettuce as my bun. I try and eat what I used to, but changed up to fit my new lifestyle. Everyone needs to do something different to make it work for them. I've lost around 80 lbs in just over 4 months. Yippee!!!!

For the first two weeks I did not regret it so much as be shocked at how much more difficult it was than I thought it would be.

I got all my Water and Protein in since day five and I know that helped me get my energy level back- and now, eight weeks out, I love my sleeve.

I have firbormyalgia and everything I have read supports excess weight being a huge trigger for fibro. That was a big part of why I got the surgery, and my fibro is indeed much better. I had become a near recluse with pain issues and right now I am walking an hour a day with my husband and dog and then powering through a level III Water aerobics class every night. I have so much energy and I am coming alive again!

I wish I had the surgery years ago. I still love my food, all 1/4 cup of it!

Most of us know the great success stories of the boards (Tiffykins, LilMissDiva, etc) but we couldn't have gotten such a clear snapshot of the first month or so timeline without this question being posted, so kudos to Karelia who had the intestinal fortitude to ask. This whole thread has been very enlightening.

I now have a much better idea of the kind of difficulty I will be facing for the first month or so. I am still going to go forward with the surgery, but in a weird way I feel better knowing that I will feel bad so I can prepare for it, if that makes any sense at all.

For those who are still struggling, I am sorry. For those who are not, congratulations!

Let us ALL hope to have success and comfort in our futures, regardless of approach.

Seriously? You need to read more here! I knew exactly what to expect the first month! Have you been reading the posts of people during their first weeks? Gnarly! This question certainly did not bring these things to light, not by a long shot! This post surgery area is always full of fresh post-op detailing their struggles- you will see how miserable I was in my posts the week of May 9th and on by Vlogs. You will see this misery over and over, and also the kind experienced folks who chime in and tell you that it will pass and will get better.

Thanks everyone! This thread has been helpful to me! I am new. Just finishing the last few details before I have a surgery date. I am having my surgery at Pudget Sound surgical center with Dr.Landerholm. Helps to know what to kinda expect from ppl that have been there.

I've never regretting this surgery for one single second.

I feel like I eat very normally now . 4th of July I went to a BBQ and I had half of a pretty thick cheese burger and some delicious salad.

Try to think ahead when you'll be wearing cute clothes that thin people wear

and enjoying food, just not ginormous portions.

I think what happens here is most people who are researching this surgery tend to overlook the bad side effects others post. Not saying it's what they should do at all (because they absolutely SHOULD NOT overlook the bad...), but I'm sure it happens more often than not.

Also, when someone is relatively new here, they don't tend to navigate to many parts of the board. They will tend to stick to either the Pre-Op section where they read about others experiences on what they are going through at the time, or the success stories to validate they are making the right choice. I do think you did many people a great service by pointing out that EVERYONE Pre-Op really should read all threads in the Post-Op section. It is VITAL to know exactly what to expect in the first 4-6 weeks after surgery.

The Wonders of Surgeries who post they had zero pain, are up and doing their construction jobs after a weekend of rest and can eat normally again without issue are maybe 1 in a million!! The rest of us didn't have an easy go of it. We struggled to get *anything* in for weeks after surgery, we had pain, we were badly fatigued, we dealt with nausea and vomiting, and some of us even went through much worse. However what you won't find much of here is anyone at least 6 months post op who doesn't wish they had this done! Yes, I'm sure they are out there but they sure aren't posting in this forum. I've been to other WLS websites and when they describe the Sleeve at least 6 months post op, you don't see much regret there either... so... is it THIS website or is it just that the Sleeve is a really great WLS? Hmmm...

I suggest the OP pose this question to ALL WLS websites asking this question and get feedback from all corners of the WLS Sleeve World. Your answer will be similar to what we report here... if they are less than 2 months post op you will find several who are NOT happy, maybe more often than not. But those who are many months out you will be hard pressed to find ANY who regret their decision.

Well, here is someone who is half and half with the answer. I am glad I did it. I'm 2wks 2days and have lost 21 lbs. So I am happy. I have PCOS and Hashimotos Disease so losing is extremely difficult unless I have major calorie restriction as I do now. I exercise alot and ate fairly, well before. So, the part of me that questions this is the fact that I am hungry. If I still have to feel the hunger and calorie strict to this extreme, then what was the difference if I did that with or without this surgery. Eating 3 small 4oz. meals just isn't enough for me and I fear that the hunger will take control and bad decisions will be made thus without the surgery, I would be in the same boat. Hopefully, a s I continue this journey, I can stick to this calorie restriction better than I could before and in the end make this the best decision for me. On another note, it has already helped my .PCOS, cycle, and extreme Water retention. Overall, I FEEL GOOD!!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
