A stall after only 2 weeks????

Recommended Posts

I need help from the pros out there!

I'm feeling a bit discouraged and, frankly a bit concernd! I was sleeved 6/6 and will be four weeks out this monday. I have been stalled in my weight since week two! I lost about 1 1/2 earlier this week, but it came back!!! My total loss has been 25 lbs. , 10 pre-surgery and 15 since my surgery. I drink all my fluids (about 64oz. +), I am on mushies and, while I stuggle with my liquid Proteins, I am getting at 70 per day. My total calories are between 500 and 600 max. Carbs are below 20, generally closer to 10 to 12. I was very active before the surgery but now doc want's me to only walk. I am cleared for more strenuous work outs (i.e, spin, and my bike) at minimum of 4 to 6 weeks out - which is coming up. Woo hoo!!!

How can this be happening? I expected to work for my weightloss and knew that at some point, like many of you, I'd have to move much more to get my one lbs. or so loss per week. But this soon? It seems many are are still loosing a bit more this early on. I know everybody is different but, like I said, I'm a little scarred because this is a lot to go through and I still have a good 90 lbs. to go!!!!

Any help, suggestions, ideas and encouragement are sooooo welcomed and appreciated! Thanks inadvance guys!!!

MNB

mnb, ohhh girl... you really really cannot stress about this. You are going through what about 99% of us go through (and I did too!!) which is a minor stall at around 3 weeks out. This stall usually lasts about 2-3 weeks and from there the weight loss resumes.

Your body is taking a step back and analyzing WTH you just did to it. Do not worry!! Just keep doing what you're doing and don't push yourself too much right now. Right now you are still healing and getting into the Sleever Lifestyle.

I was sleeved 6/7/11 and have only lost 1lb so far. i guess my body is just more stubborn than most. I have started weighing only once a week so its not so discouraging. But we can't go back so forward we must go. I'm sure the loss will start when its ready. i did lose 30lbs pre op so I'm still feeling pretty good about everything. good luck it will happen for us

Hi-

I also had a plateau - I was loosing 3#/day then it dropped to 2# and after 24# it stopped...

5 days... then it started dropping again... 1/2# then 1#/day...

what LMD said... stay on program- It works...

I know a sleever that stalled 5 months... now that I would worry about...

most likely didn't follow program...

My main worry is not weight loss but drinking and eating...

staying hydrated and moving on to stage III - yesterdays lunch set me back...

I am embracing the goodness of yogurt and cottage cheese!

I really want to eat some scrambled eggs with salsa..

You're so right! I am definitely focusing on fluids and nutrition. I just thought it kinda odd at this early stage. By chance my surgeons office called a while ago to check on me and I asked about this. She told me that it's totally normal since the body has gone through much, much stress and the hormones and such are disrupted. My cycle is about a week late too! She said the same as Irene above and what you are saying. Just stick with what you're doing and it will be okay. I realized I have this ingrained fear of gaining!!! It's a learned "freak out" I guess! LOL But what the hec can my body do at this level of calories but loose?!?!? I just have to relax! Thanks so much for your post. Good luck to you and enjoy your wonderful eggs and salsa when you get to them! ;-)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
