My story... thus far a 19 month journey that's just beginning!

Recommended Posts

So! I am Sarah, and I have been working out and dieting for 19 months. Just getitng that part out of the way.

What you may want to know is how much I started out at! Well that's a scary number, but we've all been in places where we hated our numbers, and I"m sure you won't judge.

I started my weight loss journey 19 months ago weighing 396 pounds.

Phew! That's a lot right? I was HUGE

How much do I weigh now, you ask?

As of this morning ( Lost another pound yesterday lol) 306!!!! 90 POUNDS GONE!!!

So! You are probably wondering why in the heck I would want to do surgery if I've already lost that much!?!?! Yeah.... I haven't lost any weight for the last two months until yesterday. I was stuck for TWO MONTHS... so I need help.

Anyone who needs help, should get it!

Unfortunately, my 19 months of diet and exercise wasn't supervised by my dr, soooooo it doesn't count towards my insurances requirements, I will be on this diet/exercise journey for another 6 months, which I am ok with. :)

Thanks for the read, and I will probably update you as I go along! If you want to see my VLOG you can head over to Youtube.com and search for Bellanoctumn, only one video for now, I'll be adding another one tonight though.

Thanks again!! <3

Sarah

That is amazing! You will do great with WLS because you will already have good habits in place! You have much to be proud of, it's hard to lose weight, especially 90 pounds!!

What a positive attitude you have. I'm so impressed with your "GO GET'EM CONFIDENCE"

Your absolutely going to make this happen, and even tho your insurance will make you diet for another six months O-WELL.

I LOVE YOU TUDE. (attitude) :)

Hi Sarah, welcome to VST :)

There is nothing at all wrong with recognizing we need help. I did the same thing, as I started at 330+ Lbs and tried to lose it on my own at first. I waited 2 years of bouncing between 280 to 300 Lbs before I actually considered having surgery to get me to where I needed to be. I started with the Lap Band. However that didn't work out for me as I'd hoped so I ended up revising to the VSG. Best. Decision. Ever. I'm sure it will be for you too!!

Hang in there, if it one thing I know helped with what I know today is that what the 6 month supervised diet does is it really prepares you for this. You will learn a lot as far as nutrition and calorie burning. All this is incredibly essential in creating and sculpting a healthy and fit body for the rest of our lives.

All the best, and I look forward to watching your journey!!

Hi Sarah, thanks for sharing your story here. I think you have done a tremendous job already and I congratulate you on your huge loss! That kind of work takes such determination that I know you will do fine after surgery!

You said that we were probably wondering why you would opt for surgery, but the truth is, we have all lost loads of weight, over and over and OVER again. The hard part, and the part we can't seem to master, is the keeping it off. Maintenance is the tricky part. I know I never could manage it for long.

That's too bad about the 19 months not counting towards your supervised dieting. But, hey, you are an old pro at it now. It should be a breeze!!

So, yeah, we understand for sure! Glad you decided to come here and I look forward to any updates you have.smile.gif

Welcome to VSG! You are in the right place- a non-judgemental place that is! I understand about being hesitant to talk about your highest weight. My highest was last November at 417. WOW! I was down to 354 at surgery and now am at 300. Can't wait to see a 2 as the first number soon. You have done FABULOUS already on your own. CONGRATS to you! Too bad those months don't count towards the supervised diet. But it will help you get to a lower weight at surgery, which means a safer surgery. Good luck to you as you continue on! You are at a great place for advice and support! I look forward to your updates! :D

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
