Who's Your Surgeon/Hospital?

Recommended Posts

I originally started this Quest by attending an info session at NYU Langone Medical Center in the city. I've since changed my plan and am now hoping to have my surgery done by Dr. Aaron Roth OR Dr. Miguel Silva (still deciding, dont judge me). They both are affiliated with Columbia Presbyterian's Advanced Center for Surgery and they work out of Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, NY which is conveniently close to home for me.

Empire BC/BS is my insurance company, I'm praying that things go smoothly with them and the approval process.

HI,

I'm also considering either Dr Roth or Dr Silva for my surgery. I'm from the Bronx but Lawrence is really close to me. I started my journey through an online seminar, then had my first appt with the Center for advanced surgery on May 13. I've had all of my testing done, just waiting on cardiac clearance, my final nurtrionist appt is in July. I can't wait I hope all goes well and I can have my surgery in Aug. I've heard mixed reviews with Aetna.

Awesome! Hope all goes well. I think I'm leaning towards Roth. I spoke with the Nurse Practitioner and she told me that Silva is booked through September and Roth's availability is alot more flexible. I hope to go through the process quickly enough that I can have a september surgery date as well. Lawrence is a nice, quaint hospital which is definitely up my alley.

Please be sure to keep in touch! We can definitely share notes.

Hi,

Yeah I know I just made an appointment to meet w/ Dr Silva on Jul 21, he only works like 1 day a week. Not sure how soon the surgery is after that but I was hoping for 8/8/11. I feel more comfortable with Dr Silva, when I do a search on his name I get hits and people who have used him before, not so much with Dr Ross. But good luck with everything and I will definitely let you know how my journey is going!

Dr. Silva is definitely a veteran in the game and has several VSGs under his belt. I talked to Jane and told her that I was leaning toward Silva because of his experience, but she assured me that Dr. Roth is really good at what he does and that I would be in good hands with him.

Hi ladies! I'm having surgery with Silva and have been working with him for a few months now. I can say i have NEVER felt more comfortable with a doctor. He is very comforting and he's a veteran in the game for sure!

I do agree he is pretty booked. i have a scheduled surgery date of July 11

Good luck1

I am being sleeved by Dr. Roth at Lawrence Hopsital Center on July 19th. I'm plenty anxious about it!

I dont have a date yet, I really just started the process with Lawrence about 3 weeks ago. I did my sleep study last night, and the tech gave me a thumbs up, meaning I should be diagnosed with apnea which should get me approved for surgery. I was worried because my BMI isnt quite at 40 and I dont have any co-morbs under my belt, so I was really counting on this apnea thing to come through. I've been trying to gain weight to up my BMI but that wasnt working out too well either...I would have to gain about 20 lbs to get it up to 40. Hopefully I'll be hearing back from Jane soon, I'd like to schedule my surgery for the beginning of September since I'll be on vacation from work.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
