Slow weight loss is getting me down

Recommended Posts

I know that we all lose at different rates, but I'm almost 2 mos. post op, and this last month I have lost a total of 6 pounds! ): I have never lost weight quickly, but I was hoping for a bit more than this. I know that I shouldn't be whining, and 6 lbs. is better than nothing. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this slow weight loss, and did it speed up later on? I guess on the positive side, I never had a problem with any food. I seem to be able to tolerate just about anything that I've tried. (I haven't tried bread though) Just needed to vent a bit. Thanks for listening. Linda

Hiya Linda,

this is a topic that is very close to my heart as I am such a slow loser... my body is fighting to keep each and every remaining pound of fat that is on it! This YEAR I have only lost 14lb... and I am sticking to my programme 95% of the time. BUT, I am not gaining either, so, it is bitter sweet pill for me at the moment as I still have about 20lb to reach my surgeon's goal and more for my personal goal. I try not to dwel on it too much because at one stage it really got me down. I think there are other factors to my slow loss, such as hormones and stress, so at this stage, I am basically thankful for each and every ounce that comes off.

Not sure if that will help, but I wanted you to know that you are not alone... and you WILL loose more weight. Remember, you are only 8 weeks out and your body is still wonbdering what the hell has happened! Continue to do what you are doing, follow your programme and get your fluids in...try to relax - although, I appreciate that, that is easier said than done.

At the end of the day, 6lb a mth is a good and healthy weight loss... and something that you should be proud of!

Keep up your good work... =]

well dear,Dont worry about it, U will be losing again.. My body seems to be dropping few pounds for a while then nothing for some weeks, I dropped 28 pounds and I am 2 month post op now. Some will consider it slow but I consider it a success I have never achieved before in my life.

I have lost 100 pounds with my bands and may be more but plateaued for several years, as I have never been in this weight like in forever. So I guess Our bodies just give themselves some rest between every pounds and I consider it a blessing that it is automated this way. U will be losing again UNLESS u are drinking ur calories which I doubt u are.

Do u track ur food? if u need further advice u can write us down ur typical day intake and we can all chime in:)

My weight loss has slowed. This past week I only lost 1/2 lbs....................but with saying that it's still a loss!!! I feel better than I have in a long time. I couldn't even stand and wash dishes without my back hurting. Yesterday, not only did I wash dishes, but I cleaned out my office which had lots of crap that I just threw into it. I was always soooooooooooooo tired and never had energy to do anything. The only thing I kept up with was school which is on-line so I remained sitting most of the time. It feels good to be able to move around!

I am right there with you. It's been two months since my sleeve and I have only lost 29lbs. I know that we shouldn't compare ourselves to others but its hard not too especially when you see ppl losing 20 something pounds in the first month. It's makes you feel like you shouldn't have had surgery. But in the end I guess a little weight lost is better than none.

Hello,

Confession time... I am one of those people that have read posts before about stalls, or not losing any weight in a week or two.. and honestly I thought that person just "has" to be doing something wrong.

I am the one that is wrong.

I have done so much reading the last 3 weeks about stalls and plateau's.... I myself am in a 3 week stall.. 3 weeks... ugh.. my scale is awesomely accurate and the last 3 weeks I have varied in ounces, but that is nothing...I have been at the exact same weight for 3 frustrating weeks. I have examined my calorie intake, my carbs, I love crystal light and drinking fluids is no problem at all... excercise... I am the most active I have ever been in my life. I walk outside or on the treadmill 5 X a week, started slow and am now up to 3 miles !

I am so proud of what I have lost, I am so proud of how healthy I am eating and I totally feel great being more active.

Inside my head...I am sad, I get frustrated, I also am a bit scared, like what if I cant lose anymore weight? I am still 100 pounds from goal...which adds to my frustration because I have so much further to go on this journey then most people who post on the forum.. I should be kicking weight loss butt with as much as I have to lose...but I am not..:(

O.k.. so point of my rambeling... is all the reading I have been doing the past 3 weeks.. is telling me our bodies need time to catch up to the drastic changes, our hormones, chemistry, metabolism are all changing. From everything I am reading, it is not uncommon to go 3-4 weeks without a loss... hard to believe, but it is true.. hang in there.. you keep pluggling along and I will keep plugging along and I sincerely hope a month from now, both you and I are higher on the loser bracket!!!

Good Luck..

to be thin 2011, you are so right! I've been on a stall for the past 6 months!! Go figure, but then check out how much i lost in 1 year before the stall. . . i don't blame my body for stopping right now. . it's going to start up again once it's ready. . . and keepaloozin' just have patience, rome wasn't built in one day and you didn't get overweight over night either. . . it took time as will loosing. Good luck you'll do fine!

And it doesn't help when you log onto this site and see stuff like "21 days post op and down 50 lbs!!". I am excited to see people lose weight, don't get me wrong. But sometimes it causes us to set our expectations too high. Six pounds is great! The way I see it, even if I lose 1 lb a week for the next year, that's 48 lbs! Plus, I am eating healthier and feeling better. Do I want to lose weight quicker? Of course I do. But the minimum is still better than the alternative which for me would have been to gain another 25 to 30 lbs and stay on my blood pressure meds and pretty much slowly kill myself.

Have you taken measurements? I know in the past if I've been at a stand still I will take my measurements and then I realize that although the scale isn't moving as fast as I would like then I could still "see" my progress. Even last week at one of my follow up appointments my surgeon suggested this. Good luck! :)

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
