So technically I still have 6 hours until I'm cleared for normal solid foods. But I kinda figured that 6 hours really wasn't going to make or break me.

I had to go to the grocery store because apparently I suddenly have a pre-teen boy in the house with a hollow leg (all 72lbs of him ate 1/2 a loaf of bread, 4 hot dogs, and the last of the Peanut Butter since he got home from school ohmy.gif and I'm going to have TWO teen boys at the same time!!!!)

Anyway so I'm at the store, and I impulse purchased a 33cent lunch box bag of sour cream and chive potato chips. Don't ask me why...it was an impulsetongue.gif. I LOVE sour cream and chive chips...especially if they are dipped in ketchup MMmmMMrolleyes.gif So I got to the car opened the bag and ate the first one. Meh it was okay mellow.gif ate the 2nd, hmmm these aren't as tasty as I rememberdry.gif 3rd nope not getting any better...4th and 5th were just to make sure unsure.gif And then I felt it.....I felt FULL. After 5 chips...and not huge ones either, I was full.

laugh.gif So....my tastes really did change. And 5 chips are all I need/want. I won't be purchasing them again, totally not worth my $$cool.gif

That is too funny. Who in the world would have guessed that 5 chips would make us full? I mean, before surgery, that lunch box bag of chips would be gone in like 12 seconds.

What a trip this sleeve is! I love it!!!biggrin.gif

Your post made me laugh! I can't wait to experience what you talked about.

My only question is...do you really dip those chips in ketchup? ?? I never heard of that!

I'm about 6 months out and STILL have these altered tastes. Things I used to love I now can't stand, and things I never really liked I now do, thankfully they are mostly things that are good for me. Some things I like now are just variants of previous tastes, I used to love milk chocolate, a Hershey bar with almonds was the best pre-op, I tasted a Hersheys kiss a while back and thought it was nasty sweet. However I now like DARK chocolate which I used to hate, I love the bitter sweet taste now.

I'm actually kind of glad my sweet taster hasn't changed...I kind of need it as a cake maker/decorator laugh.gif

I love plain Lays chips, I have not bought chips or really any junk food since my surgery 7 months ago. Those 5 chips may have been filling now but in a few months they won't be. I do know what you mean I have a 14 year old boy, and he can eat so much. I can't believe he stays so thin, but he's not a junk eater. We'll have to get a second job just to feed these teens. If my kids want a treat they can get a single serving but they know I have a no junk food rule in the house.

LOL! I like this post!!! My total weakness is potato chips, ,, I would eat a 1/2 bag a night.. rarely ever did I go without chips everday. I tried one potato chip over memorial day weekend and all I could taste was grease... I guess I have been away from fried foods/greasy foods for so long, I could not taste the chip, all I could taste was grease... So I was happy with that and dont care to try another one any time soon!!!

Have a good day on your "normal food" day!!!

I noticed that my tastes changed with yogurt. I use to love love love me some yogurt. When I had to eat it on my full liquid stage, I HATED the taste of most of them! I was so upset!

I haven't been able to eat much to see what else I don't like, less than a month out, I willl have to see what the future holds!

Kelly :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
