Kim,

I started this week at my company's fitness center. I dread it each morning, but feel great afterwards. 30 minutes on the treadmill and some upper body toning. So far so good. I have a co-worker that is going at the same time. Its good to have someone to hold me accountable especially since we go in before work and have to get up extra early.

Hi All,

I thought I would up date on how it is going for the September Challenger so far. I lost 2 pounds last week which is pretty good since we ate out or at a freinds almost everynight. I even managed to graze my way through the holiday making healthy choices and not gaining.

My current weight is 274. I want to be at 255 by 9/13.

How is everyone else doing?

Wow Ousooner! I admire people who get up early in the morning to exercise before work. I'm one of those people who drag out of bed just in time to hop in the shower get dressed and go running out the door with my hair still damp! I always wanted to be one of those people who get up two hours early and sit around and drink coffee and watch the morning shows, but no can do.. Congrats on the exercise! I can relate sometimes I have to force myself into the pool, but once I'm in there, I feel much better! P.S. Congrats on the 48 lbs, that is GREAT!!

Hi Kim,

I am somewhere between 5'5 and 5'6 depending on who measures me. Congratulations on the 43 pound weight loss. How did you go about choosing your 155 goal weight? My 170 goal is a random number that I think I will look and feel good at. It is definately subject to change.

I have given myself a goal of two years to reach it. That is about -1.5 pounds per week. Since having this surgery, I can think about actually being able to reach this goal. It still seems a little surreal just typing it out.

My 42nd B-day is on 9/15 so that is really my goal date to be at 255. I would actually love to be at 250 but, I don't want to be too unrealistic. The last time I was below that was 10 years ago after having my son. I was so sick during my pregnancy, I lost about 80 pounds. It's nice to be able to lose weight without nausea and vomiting! :)

I just notices that we weighed the same on our surgery dates so we have lost the same since surgery!

I joined a gym last night!! I go for orientation tomorrow after work and then I'm good to go! I need to get my butt in gear if I'm going to meet my September goal of -30lbs.

Weighed in this morning at 249.4 so that's a loss for me of 3.4lbs this week. Hot diggety dog!

DrewsLou -Congrats on the 3.4 lbs and on the gym thing!

Linda - I'm between 5'6 and 5'7. I chose the goal weight of 155 because that would put me in the "normal" bmi range. I'd be happy with 199.9999, he he! Anything starting with a 1.....

I have another goal: I WANT TO WEIGH LESS THAN MY OLDER BROTHERS BY CHRISTMAS! I can't remember when I weighed less than them ( I even weighed more at birth!). They both weigh around 225 lbs, so thats 49lbs to lose between now and Christmas! Think I can do it? I'm gonna try! I think thats like 22 weeks away, so it would be 2.22lbs a week! ( I might even the odds up by cooking for them he he... gonna fatten them up!)

Keep it up everyone!:clap2:

BTW: 3loves where are you?!:)

Hi Maysters,

Yep. Sorry. Did not touch a computer in 5 days! A record for me. Real quick update with lots of ups and downs:

:clap2: Business flight to CA. Always had trouble with too tight seat belts. This time, I had 4 INCHES TO SPARE!

:rambo Went tubing down the Guadalupe River (actually tubing, paddling, walking, and falling) with friends and about 1000 other drunk college students.

:whoo: After 2 years of nagging, my husband finally got a sleep study done. The next day he had a total personality change and more energy than I've seen in years. Fortunately, no heart damage yet, but he has been on his way (5'11", 310 lbs). Its been hard on the whole family and our lifestyle. Working 12 hr shifts, 1 hr for shower and eating, 11 hrs sleeping - what a life? He gets his machine next week, I hope!

:girl_hug: Went bowling for the first time since surgery. Yep, even after losing 30 lbs, I still fell down! I'm so over that!

:faint: Went grocery shopping for the whole month in one day (talk about exercise - no one at home to help me)

:hungry: Planned and cooked portion controled meals for the family (20 meals so far). I've never been organized to do this!

:) Actually gained 2 lbs last week and lots of restriction (slime and PB)

:girl_hug: weighed in this a.m., lost the 2 lbs

:cheer2: Everyday, I've been getting rid of one of my 'Fat' clothes and fitting into my 'skinny' clothes (real jeans this morning!:girl_hug: )

So, bottom line, very busy past 10 days with a net loss of ZERO. I hope I'm over the slump. Very frustrated.

But I'm so over that! Happy day everyone. Keep up the challenge and the courage!

It is so good to hear of everyone's loses! I only walk for my exercise. I hadn't missed a day of walking in over a month, until the 4th! I had 30-40 people at my house for a cookout and neighborhood blowup! So I didn't walk but...On Monday I walked over 3 miles and last night I got my friend to walk with me another 3! My walk consists of 2 railroad overpasses and loose dogs chasing my dog. So I figure I made up for my day off. It is paying off in loose clothing!

Hi everybody wanted to stop in and see how things are going. I went for my first fill yesterday. Four cc in a VanGuard. Drank a Protein shake when I got home about 3 and then for supper had some refried Beans and chili. No problems.

I am a stair step looser. Lose 5 pounds in a week and then nothing for two or three weeks. Oh well. Long as it is going down thats okay.

Everyone is doing so good.

You didn't say if you have restriction? I am dying to know as I go on the 17th...so I need hope.

They took a picture as the barium passed through my band and it was about the width of a pencil.

So yes I do have restriction. However I did have the usual swelling after a fill and today I have only been able to drink Protein drinks and a cup of Tomato Soup.

I did try twice to eat something soft and it HURT. But I walked around with my hands over my head and it passed the second time pretty quickly

The first time it took about 30 minutes for the pain to stop.

I know it is a learning curve. At least I didn't slime, PB, pass out or anything of a drastic nature.

I have been so proud of myself that I have been losing weight without a fill. Well, my bubble has burst, finally. I'm not gaining, but have been stuck for a couple of weeks. I've been able to eat normal sized bites, and anything I want. That's not good. I've made an appointment for my first fill near the end of July.

Stitchy I know how ya feel. I went three weeks without losing. Made my appt for my fill. Had to wait a week because of the 4th of July holiday. Lost six pounds that week. But I went to my fill appt anyway.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
