Change in hair texture/hair loss :(

Recommended Posts

HI Everyone. I am 4 months out from surgery and doing great. I am religious with getting all my Protein in and eating the right portions.

The problem is that my hair is a mess!!! Not only is it falling out in droves but the worse part is the texture. It's a frizzy mess and is uncontrollable. Luckily I have a lot of hair so it's not too noticeable, but there is hair everywhere. I have to lint brush my clothes and pillow every day.

Did anyone notice a change in the texture of their hair?? I do have an appt to get it cut off but any advice would be greatly appreciated

Yes I have very dry frizzy hair since surgery! I hate it ... But it is worth it!!I try to deep condition it weekly and use leave in conditioner! It helps alittle

OH yes. hair loss is quite common in all types of WLS but from what I hear from everyone is it is temporary and the hair will grow back as the body adapts to its new reality.

The texture I did not know. I wouldn't mind having more curl. Heh.

I think I am too early out to really notice any hair changes. My hair is naturally thick, coarse, dry, and wavy. In its natural state it is big - that's the best way to describe it. To be honest, half of my hair could fall out and it would look like a normal person's head of hair :-) I found I haven't had the energy to do anything with it so I cut it short. I got a fantastic cut - about chin length deconstructed bob - and it is much easier to deal with now. I use a deep conditioning mask every time I wash (every 2 or 3 days) and I use a type of argon oil (Orofluido or Moroccan Oil) to smooth it out. It looks great!

With the new cut and style I can go 2 days without washing/styling. That has helped to keep it healthy too. I usually let it air dry and then use a straightening Iron. Apply the oil and I am set for a couple of days. I do all my styling at night so I can wake up and walk out the door looking fabulous without any stress in the morning.

If you are not used to the frizz, there are a lot of products out there now to help. Most of them have silicone in them, which might be good for you if your hair is getting thinner. I opt for the oil because I don't like the feel of the silicone and my hair really needs the weight of the oil to keep it tame. Also, the oil will definitely zap the dryness. Cutting shorter is the easiest way to get your hair looking more full. Then test drive some of the "smoothing" products out there. Your mileage may vary...

Good luck--

Lara

YES! My hair has completely changed. It went from extremely oily to dry hair. I used to have to wash my hair daily to now being able to go 3 days, if I wash it sooner than that it becomes even more dry. Its not as curly/wavy as it was before surgery either. Totally crazy.

Thanks for your comments. I made an appointment to get my hair cut shorter on Saturday and I am going to dye it to rid myself of the highlights. Maybe the overall color will help the texture. I'll post some pics with my new do! Thanks.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
