Found out today that I'm 5 weeks Pregnant

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I found out that I’m Pregnant and to be honest I am scared to death! Scared that I will gain back all the weight I’ve worked so hard to get off and I’m scared I won’t be able to eat enough food to be healthy for the baby and I’m scared I'll make my stomach big again trying! There are so many worries going through my head. What do I need to try to eat more of? What Vitamins do I need to take since I already take some for my stomach? What should I tell my dr? Do I need to see a special dr? I’m so confused!!! I was not planning for this baby in anyway nor am I ready for it but he or she is coming so I better get ready fast!! Any Advice would be such a blessing!

First of all ... breathe. Then, get excited that you have a new life inside you. Yes, I mean it, allow yourself some time to be excited!!!! Congratulations!

From my research, there are lots of healthy pregnancies after WLS. Tiffikins is also pregnant & about 6 weeks ahead of you. She and "Sprout" are doing great.

Next - do you have the ability to talk to Dr. Rogriguez or someone else at BeLiteWeight? If so, give them a call. I'm sure you aren't their only post-op pregnancy story. They should have some good advice for you to share with your OB.

Remember - just like all pregnancies, the baby will take what it needs first. You'll need to watch yourself for signals that you aren't getting enough energy (calories) or your skin looks dull (not enough fat), etc. You'll probably have to be regimented on what you eat to ensure proper nutrition, but you'll be fine. And, in 35 weeks you will have a bundle of joy to hold in your arms. (And remember, breastfeeding helps tone up those muscles around your uterus!)

Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Oh sweetie...I know this is scary, but it's also such a blessing! Talk to your OBGYN as he/she will likely do a blood panel to see what you may be deficient in. A good Multivitamin or even one that's strictly for prenatal is really all you would need to take unless you require additional supplementation for deficiencies. As far as stretching out your sleeve, I can't answer that since I didn't do the plication and just had my sleeve done this past Sunday. I would check with Dr. Rodriguez on the likelihood of stretching it out and see what he recommends to maintain yours and the baby's health. I had the lap band when I was pregnant this past summer and the most important thing was making sure that I was getting enough calories to sustain me and the baby. There were many times when I couldn't eat good, healthy solid food because of the band so I opted for pure calories in the form of anything that would go down (not a good idea). Your baby needs to live off your body so you have to be very careful about not depriving it too much...but you also shouldn't be put into a position where you would expand the sleeve. Again, start with your surgeon for that question and your OB/GYN regarding any supplementation you might need. Congratulations and best of luck to you!!!

My doctor made me eat 100 grams of Protein and I wasn't even sleeved

way back then. So keep that Protein up and you and baby will do great!

Congratulations! Babies are so wonderful!

You have done a great job with your weight loss and you have learned all kinds of new things about eat. Right? Even if you have to take a small break from some of those new rules you will not forget them. I agree that you just need to find a great obgyn right now and let them answer all your questions...if they havent had a wls patient before ask if anyone in the office has. I've heard wls patients who get prego need a high risk dr at first. Anyway I am excited for you (and a little jealous...I love having babies) and pray that this pregnancy goes well. Please keep us posted on how you are doing!

First of all CONGRATULATIONS!!! I can imagine it is scary, especially because you haven't planned but a baby is a blessing, the best thing in the world that can happen to you! You'll be fine, and you'll look lovely with a cute little baby bump, not a huge mass of blubber like I did with my last baby, which apart from not being a pretty sight is unhealthy for mum and baby.

Okay so I have had a couple days now to let it set in and Im starting to get happy about it. Yesterday I read that most miscarriages happen in the first tri of pregnancy and that scared me. That was the first time that I was sad of the thought of loosing the baby. As much as I didn't plan this and as much as this scares me, I want this baby now. The babies father is a Marine and wants to get married. He is a great guy and I do love him but it is scary since we dont know each other well BUT I guess I should have thought about it before I slept with him. I guess it had just been so long since anyone had ever thought me as pretty and it felt good. There is not excuse for it but those are the facts. He is only an e-4 so if we want to move in together and get the housing pay we need to get married. Also I do not have insurance with my job so this is going to cost a pretty penny. So I guess right now we are talking about getting married and me moving there with him. We are starting to look at places now. It is just crazy how fast things can change.

I have a few questions.

If I dont have insurance is there a cheaper place I can go until I am covered?

Right now I am between 5-6 weeks so do I need to go to the dr. now or when I am at 8 weeks?

Because of my WLS do I need to go to the high risk dr.?

Would you get married if you were in my place?

First off, congrats.

Secondly, start eating carbs, not necessarily white carbs, but don't be in ketosis. You need to get into see a doctor immediately so they can pull blood levels, and type your blood. They may not want to see you until you are 8 weeks, every doctor is different. I was advised to eat 1700-1800 calories a day of a well-balanced, nutrient dense diet.

You do not necessarily have to see a high risk ob. I have to see one because of my clotting disorder and because of previous miscarriages and my age, VSG plays a very small role in my pregnancy.

You'll need to continue to take Vitamins. I'm actually allowed to stay on my Celebrate bariatric Vitamins because they have more folic acid, and Iron than some prenatals which are the 2 they look at for pre-natal vitamins.

As for the concern of weight gain, believe me, I 'm right there with you. I've gained about 5lbs in 12 weeks, and my belly has popped so none of my regular clothes are fitting, and I'm back up to a size 5. Which is a total mind f*ck, but it's getting better, and I don't want to hear that I'll lose the weight, I effin know I'll lose the weight, but that doesn't make the fact that I'm gaining any easier.

I can not comment on getting married. I personally do not believe in getting married out of convenience or pregnancy. But, if you love the man, and want to marry him, then that is what is important. I'm an Air Force wife, and let me just say that if you have not experienced being married to or dated someone in the military or have zero military life experience, it is a total bitch. Believe me, I love the life that the Air Force affords us, but we sacrifice a lot. You and the baby will come second to his career, the military in general does NOT care if you have a baby while he is deployed, his schedule won't change because he's married, nor will they accommodate him in any manner other than giving him more money for his housing allowance, and you'll get insurance that is not all it's cracked up to be. I have learned to maneuver the system, but it is not fun, and there are a lot of regulations that you might or might not like. Being a military wife is by far the most frustrating thing I have ever done. But, I am grateful for the guaranteed paycheck, and benefits, the sacrifices that we make do not compare to the amount of time we spend apart, nor does any of it get any easier. I've adjusted well, but being pregnant, and my husband working 12-15hours a day, 5-6 days a week is exhausting and it's very draining. Marrying a man in the military is not as romanticized as TV or movies it, there are 3 wars/conflicts going on, my husband has a 72 hour bag, and 90 day bag packed and ready to go at a moment's notice, and I have to stare at those damn things every day of my life knowing that if the call comes in, he's gone.

My husband has been in for almost 11 years, and is an E5 about to sew on E6, and believe me, military pay sucks. You'll qualify for WIC, and possibly other gov't assistance, and you'll need it. I know I'm not being positive polly, but being married to the military is just that, you're married to the military. There is an old saying " if we( the US military) wanted you to have a wife, we'd issue you one." And in some regards that is 100% true. There are tons of services available to you as a military spouse, and it is a great community, but there is a lot of negatives that come with it as well. I could tell you that it's all sunshine and daisies, but that's a complete and utter lie. With the new administration, they have cut funding, my husband's allowances were cut this year, as were health benefits, and regulations are stringent. BUT, there are a lot of positives. I have zero regrets being a military wife. I'm proud of my husband, and the job he does, but I can tell you that it is stressful, and draining. I use every resource, and available benefit the military life offers. There is spouse tuition assistance, and the Post-911 GI bill can be used for the spouse or children. We are actually using John's GI bill for the kids. He gets an annual tuition assistance from the military, and that is what he uses for online classes for his degree instead of using his GI bill. I am a stay at home mom/wife, but I do major couponing, I shop on base, I stretch every dollar we have, and by no means do we live paycheck to paycheck, but that will all change when the baby arrives. We do live very comfortably on my husband's salary, and I supplement by working part time with my lia sophia business. I really do love the Air Force because of all the resources and services that are available to us, but I won't lie and tell you that the long hours, deployments, TDYs, and exhausting shifts are easy to manage especially with children.

If you have questions about the insurance, how it works, or anything else, please feel free to message me. There are 2 different options for the insurance, and it truly depends on how you want to manage your healthcare. There are pros and cons to both options. You will need to sign up for military dental insurance for spouses/children. Again, there is a lot of information, and stuff that you'll have to do if you get married. It's a great opportunity, but go in "eyes wide open". Also, know that the plication surgery is not a covered service with Tricare, nor is VSG, so you might be limited to the first Tricare Prime option which is the H M O option, and Tricare Standard which is the PPO definitely will not cover anything related to your plication. I can explain all this to you in more details, but it's extensive and might be easier to explain via a phone call.

Aside from the military angle, you could also check into any state programs that you may have. Here in Wisconsin, we have programs that covers pregnant mothers. They typically go after the father for some of the costs, but it's free for you and baby if your income qualifies. The baby should be covered under the father's insurance when he/she is born.

Personally, I would not get married simply because you got pregnant. If you weren't thinking about it before, there's no reason to do it now. If you like the guy, then just continue what you're doing with the relationship and see if you have a chance long term. Marrying or even staying married because of a baby rarely works out. I stayed married to a loser because I got pregnant and wasted some really good years because of it. No matter what happens, be the best mom that you can be and hopefully he'll be a wonderful and responsible for father. Try to keep your stress level to a minimum and enjoy this time you have with the little being growing inside of you.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
