Yummy Yummy Protein

Recommended Posts

I went to GNC today to try to find the Max Protein that Eggface recommends (the World According to Eggface blog). Well, the owner (it is a franchised GNC) stopped carrying it because while one batch would taste awesome, the next would taste awful. He didn't want that kind of inconsistency.

So, I asked him if he could recommend a good tasting Protein, and he pointed at one and said, "This stuff tastes amazing!" He offered to blend up a sample for me in the back, and out came this frothy, fruity Protein Shake. Did I mention the flavor was Mango? It tasted like a Mango Julius - really, really good.

I was starting to get worried because while I can gulp down less-than-appealing Protein Shakes, I was sure how I was supposed to manage sipping them post-op.

The stats on this are maybe higher in carbs than others:

2 scoops of power yields 24 grams of protein, 204 calories, 5 g. fat, 15 g. carbs (but 3 of that is fiber). Its made with natural stuff, and it was actually yummy!

They have a few different flavors - chocolate and vanilla, and Mango and Watermelon. I bought Mango and vanilla today, and he gave me sample single-serving bottles of chocolate and watermelon to take home. He blended it in part crushed ice and part Water and it was creamy and yummy.

This will definitely be my lunch and late-night snack as I prepare for full-on liquids.

If anyone has any other questions, I'll try to answer them but so far I've only had the mango. I'll be trying the others through the weekend and will report back. So far, I'm very excited!

I'm so glad you found something that doesn't taste like feet. lol

I bought Biochem whey Protein, it's unflavored (except for the feet taste) crazy.gif I had some this morning with just water... Man that was bad. lol

I'm going to try mixing it with something, but I'm trying to lower my carbs too.

I'll hit the GNC store this weekend and try that mango stuff, I LOVE mango flavor.

Thanks a million for the tip. thumbup.gif

4-ever-fit Mango is fantastic, 100 cals, one scoop, 1 gm carb and 25 gms pro. Not very footie at all... In fact, the least footie I have found. Vitamin world or vitamin shoppe... or on line. NOT MILKY.... more fruit juiceish. I drink it every morning. 30 servings in a tub.... with free membership, $32 at Vitamin world.

Unfortunately my doctor would consider the GNC one a no-no as he says you need to pick one that has double digit Protein grams but single digit carbs. Alas! If you want to count carbs that makes sense too. Sigh.

It looks like this GNC product is geared to be a Meal Replacement. Is that typical of the Protein Drinks that the docs expect us to drink or are they supposed to sustain us in between meals? If it's being used to replace a meal, it would seem that the 15grams of carbs wouldn't be horrible since staying under 60 carbs per day is what I understand the goal should be.

I would think if you replace a meal once in a while, that would be fine, if you just trying to get your Protein in, then it is prob a little high in calories and carbs.... bang for your buck....I have both, but find that I use the ones with lower carbs and calories, because I want to eat real food more...

Funny you should mention about the inconsistent taste of Max Protein. My sister-in-law bought it and said it was amazing and i was seriously unimpressed. It almost tastes like it came in contact with a mocha flavor at the factory.. I still like Designers whey the best.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
