Hello all...I am in the process of preparing for my VSG surgery in a couple of months. I wanted to hear form any vegetarians out there as to how they deal with the heavy Protein aspect of the lifestyle change. As a lacto/ovo vegetarian, I remember having to consume 80-100 grams of Proteins a day during my pregnancies. I was drinking Protein drinks every single day until my delivery dates to keep it up.

So how did you prepare for your surgery and what was your diet like after??

Thanks in advance.

Tracey, I am not a vegetarian but I have seen several posts from folks who are so I know they are out there! My response should put your message back into the "new content" list and hopefully you will get some responses. I am sure VSG can be done with a vegetarian diet!

Hi, lacto ove veg here. Its all about the Saitan, tofu, soymilk, cow milk, ricotta, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, eggs, Beans, nuts and nut butter, cheese and invention! I make my own saitan roasts and sausages, you can use store bought meat substitutes too. TSP is cheap and high protein. I try not to rely on only soy, but mix it up everyday. Its easy to slack on the protein when your a veg... so I really make a point of protein first every meal. I just got peanut flour in the mail, and so far I love it! I stuck my finger in the bag and tasted it, and peanutty good, with only 110 cal per 1/4 cup, 16gms protein and 8 carbs, 4 Fiber 4 gms fat. You can mix it with Water and make low fat Peanut Butter... I added a little salt and stevia...yum! Some docs want us to get off the drinks fast... but my doc says go ahead and use them as long as you want. I found a natural fruit one called 4-ever-fit that has 21 grams of protein. I use the "not natural one", and it is good, so I imagine the natural one is good too. They are both made with whey, but the natural one is made from real fruit instead of natural and artificial flavors...look it up, I think the mango is one of the best tasting Protein Drinks I have tryed, and drink it every morning.

keep in touch, we can share veg recipes! Kim

Thanks!!! I know it will take concentrated effort. I was on Lindora and other high protein diets and I had to plan every meal at least a day in advance in order to get my protein in. I will be in touch!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
