Wil I ever be able to eat and drink at the same time again?

Recommended Posts

I too will sip with meals if neaded.. But It is basically just enough to wet my mouth.. When at a restaurant I always order Water, and if needed I take tiny sips... But when Im done it looks like I havent even touched it.. It is hard to not have both, But I do find it easier now that I have had the surgery then before.. I think everyone just needs to find what works for them in the long run!

I always sip with my food. I guess its different for everyone. I feel extremely uncomfortable if i dont sip. And yes - I use the forbidden straw. It helps the Water go down smoother and helps me not to gulp. I eat...take a sip or two...i eat...take a sip or two...etc... It hasn't affected my weight loss or capacity to get in all my calories at all. But like I said - everyone is different. The age old rule applies - do what works for you! Good luck!

Can anyone tell me..will I ever be able to eat a meal and drink Water at the same time again? I am sooo concerned about this. I get really thirsty while I am eating and can't imagine having to wait 20 minutes or so AFTER a meal to take a sip of water...is this a forever thing?

Thanks guys!!

I worried about this too! I couldn't imagine eating without drinking. I have to admit it was hard at first but it has gotten easier for me. I don't sip during my eating time either. I think eating foods with a low carb/low cal sauce or dressing helps a lot! But even if I don't use any sauce, I still manage fine now. Maybe it's because the amount of food I eat is dramatically smaller!

Hello there,

I am on my 1 month post op.

I was having problems with that issue as well and I have come with a tatic.

Just before lunch, when I sit on a restaurant, I order a bottle of Water, 0,5L. I usualy can drink that very fast, less than 5 minutes or so.

5 minutes after that my stomatch is empty and the food is served.

Sometimes I fell the need to take a little while eating, so I just take very small doses.

Anyway, after 10 minutes im already good for taking large doses of liquid.< /p>

Thats how it works for me, hope it helps!!!

There's a big difference between drinking and taking a couple of sips to wet your whistle. I can and do sip with my meals, but to this very day, I can NOT drink with my meals. If I do 1 of 2 things will happen, I'll either puke or it hurts tremendously. If I drink too soon after eating (especially dense protein), it immediately hurts.

The liquids mush the food up and can cause food to empty faster thus leading to hunger, and being able to fit more food in which defeats the purpose of having a dietary guidelines.

I learn so much from you!

I plan to also sip starting very early in the day so that I am well hydrated before meals and hoping that helps.

Those of you who have not had the surgery don't fear if you do it once you will learn quickly how it's not a good idea to eat and drink at the same time. I drunk some Water maybe 10 minutes after a meal once I was so bloated it felt like I was going to burst. It didn't take me long to realize that it wasn't a great idea.

Here's a tip I read on the band board: keep a glass of ice by your plate. If you feel like you just have to drink suck on a piece of ice for a second or two or just drink what has melted. I will be trying this one.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
