Yep, I got me a nice wig too. But my hair is growing back. I'm happy about that and a lot of unwanted hair is growing too. :) I can deal with it.

Good for you!!!

Hi everyone :) I got my referral today and I'm just waiting on the call so that I can schedule my appts before I get the surgery. In all actuality I shouldn't get my hopes up yet but I'm pretty sure I qualify since my BMI is about 41. I've been watching my carbs lately but I haven't tried to lose weight because I'm afraid of going below the 40 BMI range and then having to have comorbities, which I don't :/

I am expecting to have hair loss after the procedure because after I gave birth to my 3 kids my hair became really thin around my edges but after about a month or two it started to grow back. I've never worn a wig or weave before but before the surgery I plan to buy a wig just in case the Hair loss is very significant lol. I have very thick hair and it would suck to lose 50% of it like some of the other people experienced but I'm guessing that i will probably lose about 5-10% :/

Wow' date=' that's great! I also had dr. Yu. I saw him today for my seven months out ck up. My surgery was 12/13/11. I went from 230 to 165. You will do good but it's hard with ups and downs but the payoff is great. I struggled with each stage but I kept getting another chance to work toward my goal. I still hate Protein drinks but I will down them without a thought. I take the journey one day at a time. Keep a journal. I struggled to walk on the track until I started doing 5 miles 5 days a week. I've stalled for the pass two months but I continue because I know the scale will change soon. You will do good.[/quote']

Thanks. How long before you were able to work out?

Good luck!!! I have never worn a wig or a weave either, and I really don't want to either. My hair looks thick, but it's really very thin. I'm concerned...

I see that you've already been sleeved :) congrats!. I can't wait till it's my turn but I think the earliest I will be sleeved is December but supposedly things move quickly and my friend said that it only took her about 3 months from the time of her referral. The surgery does kinda scare me because it's permanent and the stomach that they remove is gone forever, also considering that it's a new procedure makes me worry about the long term side effects but I've tried every type of weight loss program out there and I think this procedure is my only hope in the long run. How has your recovery been? Are you still on pain meds? Are you able to lift things? I'm just worried about the recovery and how long it will take to feel back to normal.

In all honesty, my recovery was pretty smooth. I had one really bad day (my surgery was on a Tuesday & my worst day was Friday). I had some discomfort when I returned home, but no pain. I didn't use any pain meds on the day that I was released from the hospital (or beyond). In the hospital, when I had pain, I pushed the pain pump!!! Lol

Your doctor will tell you when he/she wants you doing any heavy lifting. (Like you will learn on here, all doctor's are different). I felt like I was on the road to feeling normal during week 2. I would say that I felt like my normal self (100%) during week 3.

You will do fine! Contact me anytime...

I have Dr. Yoo. I went to the seminar last month and subitted the app the same night. I had my psych' date=' NUT, and consult all in the same day. Monday I'm having upper GI, chest xray, and ekg. How long were you out of work? I'm hoping for only a week or 2. My preop group is Aug. 3rd the week before. They havent mentioned a pre-op diet yet. Did u do one?[/quote']

You did move fast! That's awesome! My surgeon suggested 3 weeks but I only wanted to take 2. I needed 3. It took a few weeks for me to feel somewhat normal. I didn't have complications from my sleeve but other things going on. I had a right side pain that wouldn't wait, an ovarian cyst that ruptured, and the mother of all periods start 1 week after surgery. I was like, really?! Why me? Plus, we have to do 3 weeks of liquids. I was just weak, tired, and dizzy. During the week I returned to work, I came straight home and got in my bed.

No, they never gave me a pre op diet. Girl, I had some serious food funerals! LOL! When I had my final pre op consult with Dr. Portenier the week before surgery, he told me to cut back and try to lose a little weight in those few days.

I have my 6 month post op group and follow up on Tuesday. I have a long way until goal but even now I feel like this is the best thing I've ever done! People who haven't seen me since before surgery look at me and their jaws drop. Some don't recognize me. I'm like, damn! Guess I was really that big! I want to lose at least another 100 lbs. It's harder than people say, but I couldn't have done this without my sleeve. Where do you live? I'm in Greensboro.

Thanks' date=' have you experienced hair loss?

Littlebits[/quote']

Girl, yes. It started after I was 4 months out. I would run my fingers through my hair and several strands would come out. I had LOTS when I washed it. I was at the point where I dreaded washing it. I was freaking out and really going through at that time. It would come out when I combed it. My family and friends have told me they can't tell, but it's thinner to me. I am natural and wear my hair in a loose, curly fro. I think this has helped mask the loss. It would be more noticeable if I were wearing my hair straight. This loss has slowed down tremendously over the past month or so, thank God! I'm 6 months out now.

I believe if it's going to happen, it will. I've read lots of stories of people who always met Protein goals and loss tons on hair. I've read some from people who never met Protein goals and had no Hair loss. For me, I was on liquids for 3 weeks post op. Then for several weeks after introducing solid food, I was barely getting in 500 calories per day. That lack of nourishment is traumatizing to the body.

Hopefully, you won't have any hair loss. I recommend not adding any stress to your hair. Since I'm natural, I just wash and go. I don't apply any heat and let my hair air dry. I keep it moisturized and co-wash it regularly. A sista is REAL cute with 85 lbs gone! LOL! Good luck to you!

Hi ladies I have been mia for a minute trying get settled. So far things are going pretty good for me. Surgery was done 5/25, so far I have lost about 35 pounds post op. I was in a stall for a minute but I am slowly starting to move again. I have a talking scale, I cursed her out every day she told me my weight. ( yes i weigh Every day) As for recovery my dr originally gave me two weeks. I personally needed three. I had the sleeve and gallbladder removed at the same time. Week two I dehydrated so I had to be hospitalized again. I was just tried in the beginning. But other than that I was ok. As for preop diet, I was placed in a 21 day liquid preop. Girl, I mourned food! I can laugh now but it was serious. I had a falling on the casket old school funeral! ( don't judge me lol) but nothing taste as good as getting slim feels. I have lost a total 85 pounds so far including preop, but I still have a long way to go. I am still nervous about my hair I have noticed strands here and there. I don't know if I am paranoid or it it is coming out. I take 5000 mg of Biotin. We will see. I have prayed and released it. Worse case I will rock a ponytail and keep it moving.

Three weeks is a long time. I'd hate to be out that long. I've heard of the food funerals but I'm just ready to cremate my fat clothes. I'm 5ft3 and 240 (whew.....I said that outloud). Aside from being healthy (getting rid of this dang PCOS, and prediabetes), my goal weight is 130-140, I want to rid myself of the muffin top, and wear pretty bras.

My hair is natural and of course I'm worried about Hair loss. I've been natural for a couple of years now and I've just started taking Biotin and I'm thinking about throwing in some MSM. I mainly do protective styles for a week or two at a time.

I live in Raleigh but I work in Durham. Duke Raleigh isnt a Center of Excellence yet so I'm having my surgery at Durham Regional.

Any suggestions for low sodium broth and Protein drinks. What did you have for your 3 wk liquid diet?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
