Do you think you could have done this on your own

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am new to this group. I haven’t had surgery yet, but if all goes well, I hope to get sleeved in March 2011. I just wanted to know if anyone felt like they could have lost weight on their own (using the discipline they have to use now with the sleeve)?

Thanks for reading my post.

Toyia

I know I couldn't have, and if i did lose the weight I know i put in on eventually as I've always done for the most part of 30 years!

No... to an extent. I've always been able to lose weight and rather quickly too. However I would always get *almost* there and then always gain all the weight back and then some.

My hunger would always take over, and when I get like that I would eat and eat and eat...

So, no. This is truly the first time I have felt like I AM going to get all the way there, and STAY THERE!!

my track record says no way, no how. The sleeve gives me the discipline by limiting how much I can eat at a time. I finally have the means to be successful. Yeah!

My last 10 years of dieting and exercise, Portion Control, countless hours at Weight Watcher meetings tell me, and prove the answer is NO. I added up the weight I had lost and gained over back over the last 10 years, and it was well over the same 400lbs. I'd lose 40, gain 50, lose 60, gain 70,lose 20 gain 10, back and forth, up and down, it was a never ending cycle. I had zero issue losing weight. Maintenance, and keeping it off was my issue. With the sleeve, I now know it's possible to keep my weight off. I did all the lifestyle changes pre-op, did behavioral modifications, and to no avail, I'd gain the weight back.

There is no way I could have done this without the sleeve. All my life it has been yo-yo diets and pills and drinks. I would lose and gain it all back and then some!

Absolutley NOT! I have been overweight since the birth pf my first daughter at age 16. I have tried everyhting, changed my behaviors, and even starved myself. The weight would come off, begrudgingly. But....The minute I slacked, it all came right .....I love this sleeve. I am only 1 week post week post today. And to date, including pre-op diet I am down 21 lbs. 13 OF THAT BEING THIS WEEK!

I just want to quickly add, that the sleeve has ALREADY saved me several times. This is and has always been the worst time of year for me. I'm always really great about losing weight from January through about September. Once the holidays (starting with Halloween) roll around - I start gaining massive and significant amounts of weight.

I have NOT once done this since being sleeved. I have even lost some weight in there. I can only imagine how amazing I'll do once I'm in the "zone".

Ha, that is an easy one.... NO WAY!!! My past efforst of losing weight always ended with failure, tears and self loathing... I would follow a 'diet' religiously and lose no more than 7lb! This time it is different; not easy, as I still have to make the right food choices, but easier as I can see results for my efforts. I am nearly to half way now and I can honestly say that without the sleeve I wouldn't of lost 14lb!

This is one of the best decisions that I have ever made, and even if I don't get to goal, I am a winner!!

Good luck for March Toyia!

My last big weight loss was back in 2004. I lost 46 lbs. on weight watchers going from 234 to 188 and gained 45 lbs. back :(... I got down to 204 before surgery and really thought well maybe I can just do it without the surgery, thank God my hubby was there to remind me that it wasn't just about losing but keeping it off. I'm 166 now (4 months post surgery yesterday) and I'm so thankful I went with my sleeve.

Absolutely not! In October, I did South Beach. Religiously. I followed it to the absolute letter. I lost .8 pounds. That would be eight tenths of a pound.

It was immediately after that that I went to the sleeve seminar and decided that this was for me.

In the past, I have done every single diet which has existed. I have exercised by legs to little nubbins. Right before my 30th birthday (at 28) I lost 80 pounds by only obsessively exercising, smoking cigarettes, eating Protein Bars and drinking diet coke. As soon as I took a bite of actual food, I began to gain. As I gained, I stopped exercising. It was a vicious cycle... until I has gained all 80 pounds back + 40 more for good measure.

So, now just 6 months before my 40th birthday, I am a week out from having the surgery and have never been more sure that this was the absolute right decision.

If I could have done it on my own, I wouldn't have needed the sleeve in the first place... 20+ years of trying and failing finally made me see that. I only wish I could have had it done years ago.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
