Depression and Regret

Recommended Posts

I am beginning to get depressed. Tomorrow will be a month post-op and I haven't even lost 20 lbs. I can barely eat without puking, I don't have bowel movements without a double dose of laxatives, I can't drink a lot of Water as it hurts, even when taking small sips and I am in pain EVERY day. I am not usually negative but after all of the money spent and all of the pain of surgery, not seeing results is depressing me and making me hate myself for putting myself through this. I don't know what else to do.......................................................

PLEASE don't be depressed my goodness 20 pounds in four weeks is GREAT! That is 5 pounds a week. I'm sorry you are still hurting but keep drinking your Water. I know it's easy for me to say I'm not SLEEVED yet but from reading all these forums that is what they say. Some say drink warm water to make your stomach feel better, take smaller bites and just don't eat as much. Maybe Soup would be better for you right now. When do you go back to the doctor? Have you called them to see if they can give you something to help you. I SURE hope you get to feeling better SOON!!! HANG in there!

visit your doctor and get the reassurance that you need. it will be okay. nothing to worry about. your body needs the time to settle after such a big operation.

Sometimes people take longer to heal post-op, but a month out and still having pain is definitely not normal. You should contact your surgeon, and see if something is going on. Strictures can occur this early out, and you should be able to hit most of your fluid goals by now. You're body is still healing, and is trying to recover after major trauma. Essentially, the majority of your stomach has been amputated, and your body is trying to figure out what the heck is going on. BUT, you should not be having constant pain, plus it sounds like you could possibly be dehydrated, and bm's aren't going to happen regularly if you aren't getting in your necessary fluids. You aren't eating a lot so you bms will be less frequent as well. Again, call your doctor, and get into to see him/her ASAP.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
