How did everyone do at Thanksgiving?

Recommended Posts

I can't believe it! First of all, it was much easier than I thought it was going to be to get through the day and not be tempted to try to overeat. I put a teaspoon or so of each of the things that I really wanted and just ate that and was "Thanksgiving full" on just a few ounces of food (as always!). In fact, it almost grossed me out to see everyone eating such big portions. . .LOL!

Yesterday morning I was down another 1/2 lb and thought for sure it would appear again this morning on the scale - but it didn't and I am SO happy! It's literally the first time in my life that the scale wasn't UP the day after Thanksgiving! And for that, I am extremely thankful!

How was YOUR Turkey Day?

I worked yesteray and we all brought in food to make a feast. I felt really guilty because I has small bits of everything that I wanted to try and I also grazed a little all day which is an old habit I DON'T want to go back to. But, I never ate to the point where I felt overfull and when I got home and thought about everything that I had eaten throughout the day, it really wasn't that much. I figured the scale would be mean to me this morning, but I actually lost another pound lol. First major food holiday since my sleeve is now behind me!

Oh and I cheated I had a lil spoonful of pumpkin pie without the crust, omg I was in heaven, lol.

I don't have my sleeve yet, but I have to keep my weight the same until then. My family went out to dinner at a place you can have seconds. I ordered off the regular menu so that was not an option, I had a salad, and 5 raviolis. I skipped drinks and desert. I felt like a saint.... and no leftovers at home. I lost 1 lb. Hurray!

I had little amounts of ham, and turkey (gotta get my protein) and literally a bite of mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn stuffing, Beans and the tiniest sliver of pie. Perfect!

I didn't weigh this am, because of all the sales, I was up and out at 5:30. I will weigh later.

I went with my bf to visit his family for Thanksgiving and his stepmother had a "Cuban Thanksgiving." I got full so quickly and I had probably less than 2 oz of turkey, a teaspoon of black Beans and rice, and a bite of stuffing. There was so much more stuff to sample, including about a million pies, but I by the time I finished what was on my plate, I couldn't eat anymore.

Thanksgiving was awesome and I didn't once feel deprived.

To be honest I was a little depressed :( I get full way too quickly and wasn't able to enjoy my food...BUT I do love my sleeve, and hopefully my taste buds will come back so I can enjoy the little I eat :)

I ate less than 2 oz of turkey - we use Campbell's gravy (tastes great, I add a half can of Swanson's 99% FF broth to it) - an eighth cup of cornbread dressing, a few bites of jellied cranberry sauce, a few bites of jalapeno corn casserole, a half of a brown and serve roll....and that's it. Oh, an eight of a cup of greenbean casserole. I didn't feel deprived and it's the first time in my LIFE that I wasn't uncomfortable or too full. It was great!!! Later I had a sliver of pie...and sadly, it didn't taste good. Home made chocolate...home made crust - my daughter did it, and it's always good, my husband said it was wonderful...as always. I have NO idea what is wrong with me!!! Oh well.....not liking the pie....things could be worse! :)

Hi All, We did Thanksgiving here first time in too many years to remember we were planning on 17-19 people so I only made the turkey, stuffing, a duck rolls and a cake with a day's worth of calories in it. I started the morning with a Protein Shake and was feeling satisfied until our dinner. I ate a little bit of everything made sure I ate the duck meat first the veggies next so I was happy with just a taste of mashed potatoes, stuffing and cake.

I am totally with you on the taste bud thing. I did not enjoy my Thanksgiving I took a small bite of a couple of things, and alot of turkey. I had a hard time getting anything down, as I'm still getting the nauseated feeling when I start to chew my food. My daughter and I went to a friends house, and most of her family ate like it was their last meal. Their plates were piled so high, it would of fed my mom, my daughter, and me before surgery, it was really gross, so that did not help matters, it made me feel even sicker watching the lady across from me, let me just say one word GROSS, I know I used to eat alot, before surgery, and I'm trying not to judge but she took so much food, and then wasted alot of it, after eatting quit a bit of it, but anyway. What ever I did eat on Thanksgiving I walked off. I was out of my house shopping at 11:00 pm Thursday night and did not get home until 3:30 pm on Friday. I parked the furthest from the door so it made me walk. I walked so much my feet are swollen and achy.

I had some turkey, a few bites of stuffing, a few bites of mashed potatoes, and 4 green Beans, LOL. I put gravy on everything. It was SOOOO tasty! I wasn't stuffed or uncomfortable. I even took some home for a few more meals. I love turkey and stuffing and potatoes! It's probably not the best for me to eat right now, but I lost a pound since thursday morning. :) About 3 hours after dinner, I had a piece of pumpkin pie. It was pretty big, but I counted it as one of my meals. I am only 7 weeks post-op. I felt bad eating that pumpkin pie and it went down so easily. I guess its not going to ruin my week! I love my sleeve!!! And I am with everyone else.... it was kinda gross seeing everyone eat so much, even though that use to be me!

I put 2 oz. of turkey, 1 tsp. of mashed pot., 1 tsp green bean casserole, and 1 tsp. dressing on my plate. I didn't finish it all, lol. I was so paranoid about overdoing it that I ate slower than I have in my whole life.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
