can you share your experience

1) did you have post op nausea at all after you were fully awake and back in the world.

2) If it started right at surgery, how bad was it --- How long did it take to get it under control.

3) What do you believe got it under control?

4) After the initial 4 week window, did you have any unexpected windows where nausea popped back into your life?

5) If you are through the looking glass and that part of your experience is over, where would you rate the whole experience from 1 to 10, with 1 being barely noticeable to 10 being complete buyers remorse.

Thanks for all your help.

The only time I had nausea, was from taking meds. There were a few that upset my stomach every time I took them.

After I was home, the only time I got sick was sometimes when introducing foods back into my diet. Not everything agreed with me.

Due to some complications, I had total buyers remorse for a while. Now, I can honestly say that I would do it all over again.

I love my sleeve.

Some people do get nauseous because they aren't drinking enough. It's easy to get dehydrated which makes nausea worse. That's why they encourage you to sip small amounts of liquids every 20 minutes. If people are nauseous, they stop drinking and this compounds the problem.

I never had any nausea after surgery. I felt great after the first 24 hours and I have never regretted having this surgery for one second.

I am only Day 13 post-op. I just experience my first bit of nausea as I started to add purees to my diet, after being on Clear Liquids. It was really uncomfortable. I slowed up and went back to liquids and am adding slowly and eating VERY slowly.. Pepcid AC chewable also helped me.

1. Only after I tried an ensure drink that evening

2-4. it did not. I am 3 months post op and for the past 2 months every morning I a have nausea. Dry heaves and I do not feel beet until the excess bile comes out. It is gross. I am going to see a doctor in the next few weeks. I

5. Although this is a struggle, I do not regret it. I am 50 pounds down, 50 to go. I know this will pass.

Me too- I'm 12 days post op and found yogurt and pudding made me uncomfortable - when I thinned them with skim milk-yuk! Couldn't finish 4 oz.! Back to shakes with skim plus, Protein broth and Jello. I didn't like the tight feeling in my gut after eating. Could my sleeve still be swollen? Anyway, I see my dr. this afternoon -I returned to work yesterday too soon. Lot of burning today, he wants to see me. So we'll see whats up!

I have had alot of nausea everyday. Three wks out today. It happens after I drink shake in morning and evening. Still taking medicine for it. But soooo much better than lap band. No regrets, just ready to get over this part of healing.... Still not getting all my Protein and calories are still around 450 a day. Milk made me really sick so no using in shakes right now using silk. Going to try milk this week. Ready to go to mushies. Maybe that will help nausea.

I'm a week and one day out and when I opened my eyes in recovery I was horribly nauseated. I was literally begging the nurse to help me! I stayed nauseated for the first 4 days, but oral Phenergan finally helped me the most.

I have episodes once or twice a day of mild nausea, but I do best when I keep something on my stomach.

I had horrible nausea the day of and the day after my surgery...but it was not the surgery that caused it. Figured out I am HIGHLY sensitive to Morphine, which they were giving me for pain. Once that was stopped, I have been nausea-free :)

I am only 1 wk post op but I had nausea and vomiting for 24 hours after surgery. After they stopped the dilaudid pump I got better. Zofran, Reglan, and Phenergine were all used to help but failed. I ended up in ICU for 3 days due that and my heartrate being out if control. Now I'm doing fine the gas has subsided for the most part so I'm not so uncomfortable. I had a lap band so I knew what to expect for the most part. I was much more nausea after the band. I very happy with this procedure. I lost 16 lbs pre op and 9 since surgery last week. I'm pleased.

I was immediately nauseas and was on and off for nearly 2 months. No real pain and no other complications, just felt like crap. It sucks but you'll get through it.

I was extremely nauseous about an hour or so after surgery. I really thought I was going to die!! I vomited what little I had in my system and heaved the next 2 days. I remained nauseous for really that Tuesday, ALLLL of Wednesday and finally on Thursday I begin to feel a little better. The medicine for nausea that they gave me, forgot the name, helped very little and for a very short time. My surgeon kept telling me that it would eventually pass...didn't believe him lol...then all of a sudden, it did.

Once I was home, maybe the first week the nausea would hit me, but nothing like when I was in the hospital. Then after that, again every once and a while after I drank Water I would get it. Nothing to remember.

Aside from nausea the day of surgery I haven't really had any until Now (6 weeks out) I just started an antibiotic or a sinus infection so I am pretty sure that is what it is from but I can't hardly drink Water, all I want to eat are carbs and I still feel nauseated all day. I am hoping once I stop the antibiotics this will end.

The day after surgery I was barfing all day. Think it was the pain meds on an empty stomach & possibly some after effects of the anesthesia. That passed and since I'm sleeved (little over 5 weeks out) I've only vomited twice & that was my own fault with eating something dry & fast & not chewing small bites...

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
