Really great thread! Like others, it took me a few hours to read all of the posts... I feel like I know you all by now

Wow! The 80's bring back memories, right? Big hair, parachute pants, Z Cavaricci clothes.... who besides me can remember? Oh gosh, the flash backs!

About me - I'll be 35 in another month (whew! that's hard to believe), I have a 9 yr old son and have been divorced for 6 years. I live in Houston TX.

Boring stuff - I am work as a coordinator for a Healthcare manufacturing/supply Co to provide plated media for microbiology and instrument controls for coag, chemistry, and hematology.

In March 2005 I began reseaching Lap Band surgery, by May I reached my highest weight of 256. After much consideration, I decided to self pay and was banded 10/10/05.

At surgery my weight was 234, as of my 4th fill two months ago I was 199.4. I believe in the past 2 months I've lost another 8-10 lbs, I also think scales are the devil... don't own one! My goal is to be in the 140/145 range.

Let's keep the thread going and show those 20's how we roll!!!

All right everyone- updates on how you're doing?

Hey 30 Somethings!

I had my surgery on July 14th so I am a week & 2 days out. I am doing pretty good except for a few lame setbacks. First, my city (St. Louis) was hit with a huge storm that knocked out power to most of the city and region. 30% of the area is still without power as of this afternoon but ours came back on yesterday. Oh and I have a stress fracture on my left foot near the big toe, so I cannot walk which will no doubt slow down my weightloss.

I went for my first post surgery followup visit last week, at the time I lost 18lbs total including my 7 day preop diet. My Dr. removed my bandages and everything looks good including my 3 inch port incision.

All in all, I have to say that I am a bit disappointed in the length of recovery time, I have no patients for it and did not realize that I would be able to sorta feel everything inside of me. Everyone else seems to be doing better than me, maybe part of it is because I am not able to move as much with my stupid foot.

I have been missing my girl on the go coffee drinks and after the suggestion of another on the list I ordered the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf ice Blended fat & sugar free Mocha kit, it ROCKS!! And is a sneaky way to get in my Calcium. I plan on adding protien powder to it as soon as I can get my ass out of the house :crutch: to buy some.

HI!! Dont feel bad, big girl undies, 18 pounds is awesome!!!!

My surgery was 1 month 4 days ago, I was really surprised about the recovery too. I had alot more pain than I expected. A month out, now Im enjoying "mushy" food! Oh Boy!! Seems I cant even get 3 "meals" and my protien shakes all in some of the days. I have hunger but it seems to go away pretty quick. My body is getting used to not eating I spose. Alot of the head hunger is getting easier for me as time goes on.

Ive lost 32 pounds!!!!!!

I cant even believe it! Im feeling sooo good and its awesome to know that Ill never gain this back. One problem has been constipation.....yay, but seems milk of magnesa took care of that today. (ahhh, relief)

I even got my "drink" on last nite vodka and crystal light....was yummy!!

Soooo nice to be feeling like my self again and looking/feeling better each day.

Nice to chat with all u 30-ers :tea:

Lizzilo,

I am 1 month 7 days post-op. I am doing great! I also had a longer recovery time than I expected, but now I am doing pretty good. I have lost a total of 39 lbs (including the 10 days of pre-op). I am on regular foods and I usually only drink Protein Drinks for Breakfast. I'm exercising about 5 days/week. I am scheduled for my first fill on 8/15, which I am excited to get.

Keep up the great work everyone!!!

OMG! That was THE drink in college, well besides Purple Passion! Just don't wind up at a fraternity house next time you have one!

HKimer - I am on regular foods and I usually only drink Protein drinks for breakfast. I'm exercising about 5 days/week.

Great progress girlie! What do you typically eat in a day?

Also, I am sorry if I was being a debbie downer, I think my broken foot on top of the surgery really had me down, so I am going to have a much better attitude starting today!:hippie:

30 Somthing hipsters, I found more motivation!! We just got an Anthropolgy store in St. Louis. I have always been a fan, but never thought I could shop for clothes there.

I just went to the website and see they carry size 14's!! They also have a wish list you can set up, I am setting mine up for future purchases.

I looooove Anthropologie. I would shop there all the time if I could. I lespecially love their dresses and skirts. I'm a long way from my goal, but hopefully I'll be able to shop there one day too!

I went to the foot doc this week, turns out my broken foot is freakin arthritis in my big toe!! WTF? I am on an anti imflamitory but it is bad for the band, so I have to follow my dosage with a cracker or 3. :Banane56:

I am doing so much better! It really took me 2 full weeks to recover, I am sure without the foot, it would have been way less time. Anyway, I am so excited, I tried on REAL clothes today, not sweats and strechy things, and all of my skirts are loose on me!! I bought some tight thinking I would wear a longer shirt to cover my fat belly, but now I can wear shorter sassy tops with them - YIPPEE!!!

I ate out yesterday, Rob and I went to see You, Me & Dupree (so funny!), and Matt Dillon is so cute in it! then we went to Chevy's, I had some guacamole and some of the corn cakes, I got full quick and the guac felt so good.

We move into a new house next week, I am so excited!!

I hope everyone is progressing well!

Hi Everyone,

I posted here a loooong time ago and haven't been back. I think it's about time I rejoin. To reintroduce, my name is Chris, I'm 32 and living the single life in Massachusetts. WhooHooo! I am not yet banded, but have been approved by my insurance company. I have my ultrasound and psych visit on Thursday and then will be able to schedule my surgery date after that. I am shooting for October 2nd, which seems so far away, but I had to pick a date that would be a down time at work and allow me to take two weeks off.

I cannot wait to be banded! I spend my days daydreaming about life out of plus size clothes. We are so limited on our options!! I think it will be a long two months, and right now I'm having a hard time focusing on losing the 10lbs they want you to lose pre-surgery. I have had the hungry horrors this week for sure! It's probably all mental, but we know how that goes.....

It's great to read how everyone is doing and you will all certainly be inspiraations to me!

Chris

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
