Don't like to cook- can I make this work?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to be successful post-op if you don't like to cook for yourself? I've seen tons of great recipes but I just really have an aversion to cooking for myself most of the time. However I know I can't depend on Protein Shakes either. Are there any options out there that will allow me to still make the sleeve work for me or is it just better to have more control over what you're eating?

I loved to cook pre-op so cooking post-op has been fabulous as well.

My recommendations for those that don't enjoy cooking is to get a small crock pot, and a little George Foreman type grill.

You can cook meats in any of the cream of whatever Soups, season them with various spices, and it's not really cooking. meat freezes well out of the crock pot so you can knock out several meals with 1 easy preparation.

The GF grill is a godsend. Seriously, I don't know how I survived before I had it. And it's super easy to clean and cook on.

I wouldn't rely on frozen, prepared meals as most of them are super high in sodium and pretty carby. But, that's just my personal opinion.

If you need any help with how to prepare stuff, let me know and I'll be more than happy to share how I convert recipes to more sleeve friendly meals.

I don't cook at all. I mean NEVER. I did cook twice when I had a guy over for dinner. I live alone.

I eat out a lot and one dinner out is 2-3 more meals at home for me. I make sandwiches now out of that really thin bread that looks like a hamburger bun. I eat tuna salad, egg salad, chicken salad.

Really, I have no desire to cook. Once in a great while I will cook ground turkey with taco sauce and sprinkle some cheese on top and sour cream. That is cooking for me.

It's really not a problem because most of the time, nothing sounds good and I don't want to eat any way.

You'll figure it out.

I have kids and hate cooking. I would prefer to eat 'assembled' food. Think sandwiches, salads, anything i can just throw together.

My husband does grill chicken a lot for me..so that helps in re-heating throughout the week. Crock pot is good, but it takes 'planning' which i hate. lol

I used to love to cook, but not everyday, just when I "felt" like it! I have to though cause I have a husband who works from 7 to 7 (I'm not working at the moment) and 3 girls (12y,10y, 10 months) Now I don't like cooking, I hope it comes back, I rely a lot on easy meals, roast deli chicken and salads(for the family, I can't eat salads yet). I find chicken great for myself, I eat a few ozs of white meat for lunch and dinner, or even as a snack, fills me up few calories and proteins.I think everyone is losing weight in this house with me being sleeved!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
