First of all ... Take a deep breath. Next, realize that what you are feeling is VERY normal. We all had our moments - either fleeting or major freak out session(s). You have come to the right place - we are here to support you. Yes, there are risks, but the odds are soooooo in your favor. Keep your chin up and come out here often!

Ah Sleeve I can totally understand why youre scared. I never had any surgery before I had my Tummy Tuck a few years ago and I was scared stiff. I had an IV before that when I was in labor with my children so I knew what to expect with that. If you have someone that is good at getting i.v's it is a pinch that you feel but it is very minimal IMO. The catheter they put in while your under sedation and you really don't feel it while it is in, which is amazing. When they removed it I felt no pain it feels like a tug, sliding and feels foreign but did not hurt at all.

I think youre going to do great. Just try to be as relaxed and positive as possible. Don't fight the drugs just let yourself go. It is the strangest thing to fall asleep one second and not realize it, then wake up and it feels like you never went to sleep yet it has been a couple hours (surgery and recovery etc) and youve had stinking surgery!

Nothing is going to take away the anxiety totally but just know it is normal and you can ask for a pep talk from us at any time!

take a deep breath and remember, these guys have been doing this for a very long time. Fear is caused by the unknown. I used to be kinda freaked out about the prospect of an IV - till I had nearly 300 of them in a 2.5 year period. Now I could probably do one better than a nurse haha :biggrin0: The catheter thing kinda freaks me out - I'm not sure the purpose of one - I've never had one for any other surgery I've had. Don't they want you up and about after surgery? What better way to get you up than to have to pee??? :)

I'm not sure if everyone does a catheter or not. The drain I'm not overly worried about either. I don't WANT one, but I'll take it if I have to I guess. I don't WANT a sleeve either - I want to be naturally healthy and fit :) But I'll take one if i hafta!

Hi Sleeve, Your first surgery can be a worry, and everything we say can't stop that but....here is something to look forward to...once they get the IV started, and the anesthesiologist comes in, they will give you some "happy meds". This is one of the best feelings I know, sounds strange but it's true, you'll see :)

You will also be happy to have the catheter. They are giving you so much Fluid in the IV you would need to pee every half hour, getting out of bed in a hurry to pee would not be fun.:biggrin0: As for the drain, it's "just there" it didn't hurt, just pulled alittle if you move wrong, but no big deal.

You'll do great, I can't wait to hear all about it. xoxo

I never had surgery before my VSG. I didn't have a catheter or a drain tube. Just an IV. I received really good care, and cannot complain at all about my time in the hospital.

I so understand your fear - my surgery is tomorrow and I think Ive had every possible thought go through my head - like what if I dont wake up tomorrow - who will get all my stuff lol ... its funny what the mind does to us! Im here in Tijuana now and its really amazing, nothing like what I thought!! And the other girl whos also getting it done the same day with me is a nurse, and there are so many nurses on here which reassures me its safe!! My doctor was 110% with me getting it done too.... and yes we have to think of the end results...

We are starting all over again, we are going to be healthy, no more yo yo dieting!! Im so excited to know that after years and years and years lol of dieting and programs, this is going to be the one that will actually work and do well at keeping the wait off, its the tool we need!! thats why we decided on it in the first place!!

Sending you lots of positive thoughts!! Youll do great!!

I'm in the same boat too-- never had any kind of surgery, and really worried about the particulars about it. I've stuck to my pre-op diet really well cause I'm super scared of complications. Only 3 more days! yikes!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
