Do you avoid any TV shows now that you have had the sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone else was in the same boat. I find myself avoiding some shows that I previously LOVED to watch.

First and foremost-Man Vs food I love that show so much. Now I wont even turn it on there.

I am weak and I love good food. I have been missing throwing a munch. I aint gonna lie.

Anyone else having to avoid their fave shows/channels?:D

I was actually the opposite. During my recovery, the 2.5 weeks of nothing by mouth was pure hell. I didn't really miss eating, but I missed the experience of food. I threw myself into food Network and the Travel channel.

M v. F, Throwdown with Bobby Flay, Iron chef America, and all the others is what I watched day in and day out. I also started scouring websites for recipes, and learned how to tweak them to be more sleeve friendly.

I'm weird, I know, but I found comfort in watching all those shows. It was a reminder that I would be able to eat at some point LOL.

I've always loved watching TV programmes on anything to do with food, for the 1st couple of weeks I avoided them, i was afraid they would make me feel hungry, but I'm back to normal again, I enjoy the programmes and I don't feel hungry, I love it!!!

I think I must be weak, I hope I can get past it soon. Last night after I wrote this I turned on man v food and he was eating pancakes as big as a platter, I LOVE ANY TYPE OF SWEET BREADS! Whine !

I also miss Diners Drive ins and Dives! I gotta pull it together.

You can do this Jami you can do this! My new mantra lol

I watch all of my normal food Network shows and now that we have the Cooking Channel, I'm constantly on the lookout for recipes I can use now or tweak into something WLS-Friendly. Nigella Lawson is one of my favorites, David Rocco, Giada, French food at Home, Food Crafters...I'm a foodie at heart, so I take it as a personal challenge to take their ideas and make them work for me and my tiny tummy.

On the flip side of the coin, I know that my sleeve is only a tool, and that I have to really work on my food triggers and my will power. If I can't watch a TV show without running for the cupboard, how will I be able to keep my hands out of the next candy jar, cookie packet or bag of sour cream and onion chips that I run into?

I really did not watch cooking tv shows, but I can tell you I'm sick of seeing food commercials. Last night my daughter and I counted and out of 6 commercials 4 had to deal with food. I used to watch Amazing Wedding cakes before I was sleeved and it made me start craving Wedding Cake. lol I even thought about crashing someones wedding just to get a piece of wedding cake. lol , But since I have been sleeved I have not watched that show. If I see another AppleB's commercial I think I'm going to scream, it is that one and the Kraft mac and cheese bake. When I was in the hosptial I'm telling you those two commercials were on during every commerical break it did not matter what channel I was watching. lol

Papa Johns commercials are killing me. I have to mute them and turn away...

(trying to lose weight before I get sleeved)

I haven't owned a TV for over 5 years, it's the best thing ever. When my boyfriend moves in, he's bringing his with him, but I've forbidden him from using it for anything other than watching movies on DVD and doing exercise videos.

I remember watching the Biggest Loser shortly before I got rid of my last TV set, and missing the gym because I was too busy watching the show....the irony didn't go unnoticed.

When I watch anything with food, it causes my head hunger to go crazy. Hopefully this will go away when I get to eat real food again!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
