So I just got off with the nutrionist, ans she advanced me to the next level which is full liquids. I was excited, and thought no more broth. Then my mom says I'm already doing bad, that I am thinking about and getting excited about the next level of food, and that I should use up all of the broth that I bought. I want to scream. I told her if she was on broth and Jello for a week she would be excited to be able to have cream Soups. I'm very upset, and am fixing to lose it. I don't think that just because I'm excited to actually eat anything besides broth and jello makes, me going back to my old ways. I don't think I'm mis using my sleeve already if I was I would of cheated, and I am just to scared to do that. I don't think thinking about food is bad, do you? I think it is a human thing to do. just because I had my surgery does not make all the other food in the world look bad to me. They even think I should sit there and eat dinner with them when they are all eating regular food, and I'm eating broth and jello they could not understand why I did not want to sit and watch them eat. COME ON PEEP's give me a break. Thanks for listening to me as always.

Bless your heart! Don't worry about poor mom. . . she is just worried about you, moms are nutty like that you know. . . but you can use the broth in different ways. . now with your mushie stage you can use the broths as a liquifier. . .when you blend chicken or some sort of meat, you can add some broth to make it moist (and it tastes good too) you can use the broth in many ways, to make sauces, to add to your mom's cooking (she can help use it too) . . . reassure mom that you are NOT doing bad, your doing very well and that she needs to back off a bit, you know what your doing as does the doctor. . . honey your not doing anything wrong. . .it's just our "old ways of guilt" we have to get out of that thinking. . . . good luck and keep posting!

No one said you are not allowed to still love food! Just very small amounts are going to be going into you at once from now on. But the stuff still tastes good and it is perfectly normal to be happy about having some. You tell your mom to bug off!

Sounds like your mom is just trying to make you feel bad and tell her they did surgery on your stomach not your head. Don't listen to her, you should be excited about going to full liquids and in no way would I sit with the rest of the family while they ate.

If you are following your nutritionist's advise about starting the next level of fluids, there's nothing "bad" or wrong with you being excited about it.

I'm still a newbie, waiting for insurance hoops, but I think that I'd be excited to move on from Clear Liquids when it was time.

I wish you more flavor options and a speedy recovery.

Heck I have gotten excited with every new item of food I can add to my menu!

Worst case scenario...donate the left over cans to charity. It is a win win situation.

Thank you everyone. I'm sorry to vent, but it was either that or I may of said a few things I shouldn't. I actually came home today, so I would no have to hear from her for a few days. I love my mom and she has done alot for me for this surgery, and I could not of had it with out her. If only she would think of what she is saying before she says it. Any way thanks all for listening to me. Oh by the way that cream of chicken Soup at lunch was wonderful, and was worth getting excited about. lol

Lisa -

keep your chin up, you are doing great! I'm not sure what your mom's motivation for her comments is but it really doesn't matter. What matters is YOU! If your nutritionist has told you that you can advance your diet, then do so!! You can't stay on Clear Liquids for the rest of your life and that is not how this works anyways. I too was excited about every new food that I have been able to add in.

When I was on full liquids, I used my Magic Bullet and pureed Campbell's chunky Soups - I could only eat about 1/4th of a cup at a time but the taste was heaven! Someone else told me to buy the Yoplait Whips yogurt and put them in the freezer - it's just like eating ice cream!

Good luck baby, you are on your way!:biggrin0:

Kathy

Lisa,

I am very glad that you enjoyed that soup! I remember coming home from surgery and talking with my boyfriend and saying that I didn't like the flavor of one of my Protein shakes, his response, and it made sense to me as well, maybe you aren't even supposed to enjoy it, maybe it is just what you have to do.

Well since then we have both had the pleasure of learning that is simply not the case. I am a total foodie now. I eat food and I enjoy it more than I did before, I taste it better I savor the bites, I eat my small portions, and then BAM, I am done. We have spent years in this ugly cycle of trying to lose weight by doing things that make us feel like we are punishing ourselves because we are bad. We aren't. We developed unhealthy relationships with food. Thats it. We can learn and change. The food stages actually helped me some with that. To realize that my body can be better nourished on so little than it was on so much was a real eye opener.

Post op you will have lots of well meaning folks who will say stupid things. It is often their way of being supportive. You can explain and educate, but untimately if they haven't been where you are there is NO WAY they will understand what you are expreiencing. Be we all do! You have our support so hang in there, and feel no guilt for enjoying food. I never used to enjoy it, even my favorite foods, they were a way to either reward or punish myself and that was not any way to live.

Anna

I actually came home today, so I would no have to hear from her for a few days.

I'm glad to see that, cause I was just about to ask if you live with her and if not, you maybe should avoid her for a while (or just tell her to shut up, and that wouldn't be good LOL) ...

I totally understand the Soup thing. For me, after a few days of Protein shakes, the most heavenly thing I ever ate in my life was Tomato Soup with a nice big plop of plain Green yogurt in the middle of it (makes an awesome substitute for sour cream). I'll still get a hankering for that once in awhile and it's just as yummy now as it was then...except now I'll also sprinkle some cheese on the top! :w00t:

Oh, Green yogurt, in middle of Tomato soup, what type of green yogurt, is is sugar free, I see another way to get Protein down. I'm sipping on sugar free hot chocolate, and it taste amazing. My neighbor down the way made me homemade cream of brocolli soup, and it was another wonderful thing. I'm starting to realize, I can still have good tasting things, and not be bad, or feel guilty. Thanks for your support. I just don't want my mom or anyone to make me feel guilty because I enjoy a certain food, or look forward to eating scrambled eggs in a couple of weeks, etc. and sure a big fat juciey hamburger sounds great, but I know that is not possible right now, and would never do anything to hurt myself or my sleeve. I totally think she believes I will not be able to certain foods the rest of my life, and of course she knows it all so it is hard to tell her otherwise. DOn't get me wrong I love my mom, but as you can see she really gets on my last nerve. Thanks again everyone for making feel like I'm ok, and not being bad.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
