So when I spoke with the nutrionist at the VA, she told me that I could not drink 15min before, and 15 minutes after I eat. I thought this was quite interesting as my last surgeon told me 45 min before and 30 minutes after. What did your doctors tell you. Oh and great news, I don't have a pre-op diet. Oh and another thing she told me I could drink slimfast, where my last nutrionist told me no slimfast as it had to much suger, and carbs in it. So what do you think. I think I'm going with the advice of the first nutrionist, as this lastest one is witht he VA, and not with a Surgery center, and I just did not like her. lol How long do you you wait to drink before and after dinner, and was anyone cleared to drink Slim Fast?

Slimfast does not have a lot of protien to me it is a waste of calories. And as far as drinking it is only wait 30 minutes after. Reading things in our forum you will see doctors require different things post op. I question my surgeon when I see him so don't be afraid to question your doctor

tbtroy78, thanks you are correct about different requirements from different surgeons. The weird thing is this is my second surgeon, and so I have already been working on the the 45 min before and 30 minutes afterward of no drinking before, during, or after eating. I think I will just keep with what I have been working on and am used to now. The slim fast thing I totally agree with you, I was totally shocked when she even mentioned slim fast. I think I'm going to play it safe, and NO Slimfast for me. lol Thanks for the reply.

I agree with the Slim Fast thing as a waste of calories and not enough real nutrients.

My dr says stop drinking 15 min b4 meals and resume drinking 30-45 min after meals.

My instructions say 30 min. before and 30 min. after LOL. I guess they are all different, but the point is don't drink just before, with your meals, or just after..

It's so funny how all the doctor's are so different. On pre op diet and all information. My doctor says 30 minutes before and an hour after. I'm going with ya'lls doctor's on this. It's so hard for me to wait 1 hour after I eat to have something to drink.

My first surgeon told me the same as yours, and that is what I have been working on for almost a year, so that is what I'm sticking to. Just say no to drinking and eating. :crying:

FYI, there is a low carb slimfast that has 20g Protein and 2 net carbs. Its actually higher in protein than their hi protein one; go figure. Maybe that is what she had in mind?? Just a thought.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
