Dear 3 Week Stall.... I am not amused!

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I have weighed the same for 10 days. I'm 4 weeks out, and of course I'm starting to worry. I log my food, I get my Protein, I am getting 500-700 calories a day, and I'm just frustrated. Tomorrow is my one month surgiversary, so I'll do measurements and maybe that will make me feel better, but right now I'm seriously down about this. I tried putting away the scale, but that gave me anxiety, so now I'm back to weighing once a day in the morning, and the same number just keeps showing up. I HATE 289!:cursing:

And of course it's hard not to compare myself to my husband (who got sleeved the same day as me). He had a small stall as well, but now is back to losing 2 lbs./day the past few days. He'll soon weigh less than me at this rate!

Do I just keep doing what I'm doing, or is there something I should try to break this? I'm willing to try something new, but I'm not sure what:confused:

Put the scale away. Try on some clothes that you haven't worn in awhile, or better yet...try on some of those 'new' clothes that still have the tags on that you were going to lose weight and fit into (pre-surgery days).

This 3-week thing is only the beginning of more stalls. You KNOW the weight will come off....how can it not !! But you stressing with that scale will just add stress, and we all know what stress hormones can do to any weight loss effort.

Just focus on learning how to deal with food issues, chewing slowly, getting in enough Protein, taking Biotin for the future hair loss.

It gets better....and MOST IMPORTANTLY..don't compare yourself with your husbands weight loss...or anyone else's for that matter. God made you unique...and embrace that uniqueness.

If it makes you feel any better, I lost 24 lbs up until day 8 (post op - and I had no pre op diet) and since then (it's day 23 today) I haven't lost anything, which means that there have been 15 days without any loss.

We're all so different and we all have stalls. I did well the first month, then only 3 pounds the second month. I think I've had three of my first six months that were only 3 pounds each, but the others were ok. The reality is that your Sleeve is going to keep you from overeating, unless you turn to slider foods (white flour, sugar etc) which go down incredibly easy.

Follow your doctors plan about food, Water, exercise and Vitamins and you're sure to get to your goal weight. I think the kindest thing you can do for yourself is to not compare yourself to anyone else, particularly your husband because men just drop the weight like a hot potato.

Take monthly pictures, measure yourself and find gratitude in every pound that you are no longer carrying on your knees and ankles. You are going to be just fine and in six months you'll be looking back and laughing at all the concern you had now.

Good luck! :cursing:

Today is 5 weeks out exactly for me. In the past 3 weeks I have only lost 6 pounds. I take in next to no carbs, seriously, like 10 max per day most days it's more like 5 or 6. I take my Vitamins, hit or come very close to my quotas for Protein and liquids, and still - sloooowwwwwwww.

You know, there are some people that actually do better on some carbs. I do around 30 carbs and I'm not doing better but nevermind. I'm thinking of trying upping them and then lowering them etc. And I need to start exercising too (something more than walking the dog, which is good, but not enough).

Don't beat yourself up! Everyone goes through stalls. You can either mix it up a bit - get more calories or carbs for a few days and then go back to your usual guidelines - or you can stay the course and wait it out. The weight will eventually come off again, so don't worry.

And don't compare yourself to your husband! The men always seem to lose weight faster.

Qured: I read something about doing carbs in a cycle being effective for some people. You would up them for a few days and then drop them again, then repeat when you hit another stall. Maybe that will shake things up a bit?

I find that I don't lose if I stay in a rut or limit my diet too much - eating the same things every day or limiting my carbs or fat excessively seem to stall me out for a few days.

Good luck, both of you. The weight is going to come off, just not at any predictable rate!

Thank you Cheri! :) For the time being, I'm not too worried. I was expecting that after losing 24 lbs so quickly I would just stall for a few weeks even. But yes, I'll see what I can do about my diet, I try different things as often as possible, just because I want the different tastes, so no day is the same like the next one.

I find if I 'confuse' my body by having a few high calorie days, like the weekend, now it seems to unjam. but in the early days for me it was just head down and low cal all the way and the stalls eventually unstall. I think I did nearer to 1000 cals a day than 800 though and thats nett cals too so all exercise burns were adjusted for.

Hey all....

I am feeling the stall thing ... like you I stalled from three weeks to the beginning of 6 weeks and this week I lost two, but that is all! Following the same pattern too: proetein first, three meals a day, Vitamins, lots of Water and I've started regular exercise!

I know that this will work, I just wish it was working faster as I am being impatient!! I think I am going to be a 'slow loser'. I am working on the 'head' thing now... ie being positive about the weight that I have already lost and enjoying wearing clothes that didn't fit me 7 weeks ago!

This site is brilliant for support and kind words that have kept me more that sane for the last 4 weeks!!!

Since you have been tansitioning to more different foods, some stalls are almost certain.

Also, weighing your self daily is a complete waste of time. Heck your body may change 2lbs worth of Water in one day anyway.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
