unusual answer's doctor's give why you fill tight???

Recommended Posts

I heard the strangest reason why my band still felt so restricted today. The nurse said one reason may be Spring.

The pollen causes some people to fill more restricted then others. Has anyone heard this?? I thought it was strange.

I have felt extremely restricted since my 3rd fill over a month ago, I could finally eat meat after 4 weeks. I know I know I should have gotten some taken out, but, I wanted to stick it out and lose some unlost weight. I have had my period for 3 weeks now,(I have PCOS, so before band I would go 6 months without one) and I had always heard that that causes you to feel more restricted, Has anyone's doctor told them a bizarre reason for tightness of the lapband??

Denise,

That is a new one to me...

However, I do notice that I'm tighter before I get my period and looser when I drink all my liquids...

Restriction is such an odd thing!

I was also told that allergies can make the band "tighter", but it's sort of misleading. With allergies, you generally produce more mucous (mostly in your head!) and a lot of that can accumulate in your pouch. This can form a sort of plug around the stoma and make the opening much smaller. Mine is worse in the morning. My doctor and dietician suggested taking a swig of Robitussin or something with Guaifenisin (sp) in it and that should help that mucous thin out and relieve some of the tightness. Makes sense if you think about it!!! Anyway, I tried the Robitussin (generic works fine) and it has REALLY helped me. Drink it about 20-30 minutes before a meal and see if that helps.

I know that if I get a fill during that time of the month I do not stay tight long. When I'm sick I am always really tight. And yes due to spring time I have more flem (not sure if that is correct spelling) but some times if I've been outside in the grass the next day I'm super tight.

Nothing anymore surprises me about this band..

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
