September sleevers wanted!

Recommended Posts

Thanks girls!! Good luck with getting out of that stall. Hate those. I'm going to go back and read that article. Thanks!

Yes, got the drain out yesterday at my post-op appt. That was Day 10. I KNOW! Everyone else I've read has it 3 days, 6 days, 5 days... weren't I lucky! Getting that thing removed was about the freakiest thing EVER. Nothing like feeling tubing moving through your insides! EEEK! I'm shivering just thinking about it. LOL!

Got cleared to move on to purees/stage 2... so I stocked up on creamy yogurts, creamy Soups, puddings, etc.... also mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, etc. I'm just excited for variety. Today I tried cream of wheat.. didn't really like it. (I'm an oatmeal girl) and I really couldn't even eat the 1/4 cup I scooped out for myself. For lunch I heated up one of the Campbell's Soup at hand micro. creamy tomoato soups. Love those. Used to be able to gulp it down in 2 minutes, voila lunch over. I started sipping, and while it was hearty and delicious... I got so full and even took one sip too much and felt uncomfortable. It's a little over halfway done. Just sat it on the counter and walked away. Weird. I guess I'll be wasting a lot of food. Better down the drain than turning into fat on my body, I say. So yes, taking it slow and being super careful. I am just ecstatic and ready to take this thing and go!!!!!

Good job everyone! Check in! Only one more day of September left, any surgeries tomorrow?

Hey Jordien, I just tried my first bit of Cream of Wheat myself just now. It went down pretty good, and I actually enjoyed it. I added some real butter, splenda and some SF Mrs. Buttorworths.. tasted like pancakes! I also added some flavorless Unjury powder. I've been eating my Cream of Wheat like that since banding and always knew I liked it like that. I was worried I wouldn't like it anymore!

So maybe its just that you need a few more days before trying Cream of Wheat again. It is a bit thicker than just creamy Soups (though I did make it thinner anyway).

Things going good today!

I weighed myself the Tuesday before I left to have surgery on Friday. I wasn't able to weigh myself again on my own scales until the next Tuesday. I had gained six pounds! Three days later I had lost that plus two more. I am still losing, just not at the rapid rate most other folks seem to be doing. Ah well, slow and steady wins the race!

I, too, was sleeved on the 27th. I had lost 13lbs on my pre-op diet. The nurses told me to weigh myself everyday, so when I got home from the hospital on Wednesday, I discovered I lost a pound. Then yesterday, I gained a pound. And today, I'm down 2 more lbs. I think weighing myself everyday is excessive so I probably won't do that anymore.

But don't worry. It hasn't even been a week yet. The weight will start to come off. Just make sure you get the recommended amount of liquid each day and everything will work itself out :wink0:

Deep breath! Nezzie you are just 5 days out from having 80% of a vital organ removed. This will sound crazy, but don't even THINK about weight loss right now. That is not your job just yet. Your job is to heal. Thats it. Focus on being hydrated first, your body can go without the total amount of nutrients for short periods of time, your body can not go without hydration. I found myself in a similar situation where I would throw up (the very little amount of things I could get in) and would then be very careful, well I learned the hard way that dehydration not only comes after vomiting, but can also cause more vomiting. So.....my point is you will have plenty of days to work and worry and lose that weight, but not yet. Just take care of yourself, be patient with your progress and don't compare it to others, and you will feel better soon.

Anna

Sleeved 9/28/10. Having a hard time drinking 64 oz of liquid. I hope each day I feel a little stronger. Feeling pretty weak still.

Hi Nezzie,

I was sleeved Sept.20th and returned home Sept. 24th. I haven't had any problem keeping anything down but for the first 5 days it was liquid in/liquid out. The first couple of days after I got home I felt pretty energized during the day and actually overdid it with cooking and cleaning. I don't know if that is why I am so tired these last week but am looking at adding a supplement of B12 daily.

I was very upset that I hadn't lost ANY weight. I actually gained a bit while at the clinic. I couldn't believe that all I was having was liquid and no weight loss especially since even the liquid went right through. I called my support person and they explained everyone is different and not to worry. Just concentrate on healing and resting.

Because I was struggling with the liquid diet so much they suggested a little different diet for me. I added some very soft foods. That seems to stay with me better and I'm not hungry. I finally started losing - after about the first week. One fairly big loss and now a pound every other day or so. I am down about 13 pounds. I think I was just being impatient. I am only 13 days post-op and when I stop and think about it that is a significant weight loss. I really don't want to lose faster than that as I don't think it is healthy.

So I decided today that I will eat and rest and stop thinking about this 24/7. It is consuming me as much as my being overweight did.

I know this was quite wordy- I hope it helped in some way to alleviate your concerns. The whole procedure has not been as easy as I thought it would be but I know it will get better.

Take care,

Nexxie...You are still really swollen. It is very normal for weight to be up after surgery. Don't even step on the scale. There is no point right. Just keep to the liquids and take it really slow. Sip, sip, sip.

I don't know. I might give it another try and mix it like you did. I've been having a bit of nausea yesterday and today, though now it seems to have passed. This sure is confusing, that's for sure.... relearning what and how to eat! Glad you're having a good day!

Is anyone else hungry?

I woke up this morning absolutely STARVING! This is the first time I have felt real hunger since surgery and I am just wondering if I am alone. I know sometime stomach acid is mistaken for hunger, but I have had so many issues with acid that I definitely know the difference. I am making a pured Soup and I'll see how I feel after that, but I was curious.

I've started feeling hungry. At first, I wasn't sure if it was hunger or stomach acid, too, but I figured I would wait it out and see. Definitely hunger. LOL. So I just eat a popsicle and drink some Water or Protein Drink and I'm good to go.

Cherice you are not alone! I have been feeling hunger for a couple of days now. I swear my somach is screaming "feed me Seymour!!" So I eat and all is well- provided I haven't eaten too fast!! last night whilw watching TV those old food thoughts popped up- something to munch while watching the tube. but i recognized this wasn't from hunger but from boredom, so I did a load clothes and didn't think about food again. Plus I got a load of laundry done. LOL.

Had my band to sleeve revision on Mon 9/27. It was interesting to say the least, with the nausea/reflux. But, I am now 5 days out and have the reflux under control and feel almost normal!!

But, I am disappointed that I haven't lost. I gained 7 pounds in the hospital (due to all the IV fluids) and have only lost 2 of it since then. Anxiously waiting to get the scale in a downward spiral. I have been able to increase my protein/fluids every day, so maybe I will see a change tomorrow!!!

Glad everyone is doing well...we've made it through the hardest part so far!!!!

Debra

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
