:) Hi All,

I went to see Dr. Jones today. It is a go!! The date is tentative because June wants me to try different Liquid Protein foods to see how my allergies react. Some are rather different so I will have to order them on-line taking some time. So, we may be going into late March, early April. And, of course, I need insurance OK. But, Dr. Jones felt confident, so I am very happy!!!!! I can't believe we may be coming to the end of the line. I may be taking a little vacation in March or it could have been sooner. But, I have waited a long time, I can do this.

Hi Deanna,

I have Lapband on the brain right now, too because I have an appointment with the surgeon on Jan. 10. My road was a little longer. I started late Aug. but ran into a snag with anemia and had to have many tests. But, the others seem to go 1 - 3 mos. Get your appts. as soon as you can because you never know. Now that I see the surgeon I believe he will argue with the insurance co. and then set a date. Good luck. It goes pretty fast. Nana

Is your anemia all straightened out now?

I had a snag with that as well. I've been anemic for years though, mostly because i do not eat red meat / pork .. only chicken. When i got my lab work done, it came back low and kinda funky so i had to get it taken again so they could check my B-12. Sure enough, i was put on a Vitamins asap.

I am taking Flintstone Complete, Vitron C for Iron, Vitamin D-400 and had to get a B-12 shot from my PCP!

Hi Kelsey,

I am on my way with the blood count. With 2 Iron pills a day, the numbers are going up.:) My problem is iron defficiency. I had that problem years ago, then I had a hysterectomy and it went away. Now, they don't know why it has come back. At least because it is going up, they will do the surgery. What stage are you at? They wanted tests to see if I was bleeding anywhere. That took a couple of months, so there was a delay. So far, no bleeding, thank goodness. I hope you are on your way, too.

Ohhh okay! I used to slack with taking iron pills years ago. I guess that's caught up with me now, lol. My bloodwork came back REALLY low and when they figured out i was deficiant in B12 (which they also said is kinda weird b/c of my age and the fact that i do eat chicken) - I got the b12 shot at my PCP 2 wks ago. And i have been taking the Vitamin pills and my Vitron-C iron pill. I have been taking these pills for about 3 weeks now alittle over maybe. And i do not believe i am having any more blood work done b/c the only other appointment i have is my anast. appt and my surgery. So i really don't know if it's helped or not ! I guess i'll find out the next time i have blood work done, lol

Good luck! I hope your levels.. level out! :D

Ok ladies, quick update- Dr. Schneider and the army doc, Dr. Rehrig, if you've met him, have set me up for February 21st. They gave me the option of going on this brutal liquid diet (1200 calories) until the surgery, which is more than a month. I've been on it two days....hehehe, but I'm handling it. I have my eye on the prize. I started off at 358lbs, and I'm down to 347 in the past few weeks, because I've been slacking at the gym. Now it's time to kick up the volume and grind, I'll keep you guys posted. Good luck!

Just figured I'd let all of you know. I'm on the Pity Pot in a major way. My tenant downstairs is cooking something, and I feel like I'm about ready to eat my cat.

Just thought you might like to know. Next step is cannibalism.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
