Recommended Posts

Ahhh.... goodlife.... you were my great hope. I thought you were off them all together!

Called doc today and she says do zantac every other day. Have had almost no issues today.

Well... I'm back on the PPI's for now. Yesterday.... I believe it was day 9.... i developed an aching sore throat. :(

My doc had told me I could keep trying to kick the ppi's but as soon as my throat got sore I had to go back on.

Now she says I have to stay on for about 3 mos before we can try again.... but next time she wants to try a weaning process.

My pcp wants me to take Tagamet

if I have acid issues. I have to do a 24 hour urine test where I collect my urine and turn it into the lab.(yuk!) They are going to test my Calcium levels.

He agreed with me that it's a fine line between worrying about Barrett's esophagus which will turn into cancer of the esophagus, or Osterporosis. Since my bone density test already showed the beginning of this, I am to stay off the PPI until we can decide the best course of action.

My acid is quite a bit better this past few days. I get it in the evenings, but I can take some Gavescon and it's gone in a few seconds.

I will be anxious to find out what my Calcium level tests show.

I'm taking the OTC prilosec and occassionally have "break through" heart burn. What can I take for that?

Yeah the sore throat is what convinced me to stay on the PPI's. I hope you ladies can find the balance between the risks of osteoporosis, and the risks of GERD/Barrett's/esophageal erosion.

Take Gavescon. It's the only thing that will not cause rebound acid.

Wow oregondaisy.... good to see your post.

I am told that once my esophagus heals and we start the weaning process... we will be using tagament or some other H2 blocker to help with the process.

thanks, oregondaisy, where do you find that, I don't know that I have seen it before?

You can find it in any drug store or store like Walmart. It's a liquid, like Malox. It's with all the other antacids. It comes in chewables too, but the ones I bought tasted nasty. I've heard there is another flavor, which I will look for if I ever get to another store besides Walmart.

Just a thought/question. Has anyone considered taking the once a year injection, that is suppose to prevent osteoperosis?

I forget the name of it, but Sally Fields was in a commercial for it?

Would this solve the worry, or will it not work with a ppi?

That stuff is really expensive. The once a year injection also can make you feel really sick.

Wow, this concerns me. I've been doing fine on Prilosec, and my doctor wants me on a ppi for six months, post surgery. However, I didn't realize that the medication was harmful. I have osteopenia and the last thing I need is more bone loss. Is there any alternative?? Guess I need to talk to my doctor.

For those of you wanting to kick your ppi I will share my experience with rebound. I never had a day of acid or heartburn pre-surgery so I was really hoping that my body had a good regulatory system in this department and would sort itself out once off ppi's. I stayed on them for 5 weeks per my doc then quit cold trukey.

Day 1 No issues :biggrin0:

Day 2 :crying: a little uncomfortable but managable

Day 3 :flame:Hell on earth. :mad5: Lots of gaviscon :target:(tums and rolaids cause rebound) difficulty eating... mostly just drank creamy Protein

Day 4 :ack2: uncomfortable but better than day 3. Appetite returned by evening meal (my tiny sleeve appetite):hungry: Used gaviscone once

Day 5  I can feel it.... but its almost gone.

Day 6 To be continued..........

I'm hoping by tomorrow it will be gone.

I have just done over a week of cold turkey coming off my PPI after nearly a year. It is getting better, thank God for Gaviscon, and I am glad I did it. I am nearly drug free now. Apart from the alcohol of course.....:drool5:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
