Home from the cruise, was really tired yesterday and kinda zoned out after work yesterday. Had a great time, and only gained a 1 lb. I can deal with that! lol. I was sick almost all the way home from the trip, and pb'd for the only time on the way home. I think I just got too hot and over heated when we had to sit 2 hours in the parking lot after we got off the boat. One of the ladies lost her keys, we had to have AAA come out and pop the lock, and then because the keys weren't inside either we had to wait for someone else to make a key...and then because it was a newer car we had to wait for a special chip to be found or the car wouldn't stay cranked.

Well off to the gym to work off some of that pound and any friends it wants to take with it.

Uh, probally better not to ask that! lol, Kristen is the only one that didn't break the rules. I had the two 18 year olds in my room....and guess what? It's legal for them to drink in the Bahamas...need I say more? They also met two guys their first night on board....I don't even want to know what went on when I didn't see. Everyone came back in one piece, with approxiamitly the same number of brain cells they left with...so guess the trip was a sucess in that aspect?

OK, I'm jealous. :) I haven't seen the beach in years and have never been on a cruise. I need a vacation!

I do need some help from you more seasoned bandsters. I need tips on the best and/or easiest ways to slow down my eating. :hungry: I thought I ate slow before the band, but I've found it's not slow enough. I haven't PB'd, but I've felt kind of stuck a couple of times.

Always put your fork down, and don't do anything else while eating. Someone once told me to sing my abc's between bites (not out loud lol). I still tend to eat too fast, it is my biggest promblem I think.

I don't know if I told you all, but when I awoke from my lap-band surgery, I was told that I had allergic reactions to 2 antibiotics they tried to give me. These were two medications I had not had reactions to in the past. :) They also told me to get a medic alert Bracelet, because my antibiotic allergies are so many. At my post op visit Dr. V told me to get to an allergist to find out what else I can take. :phanvan I'm not ignoring all of this, I just figured I'd bring it up again when I planned on seeing my PCP in August for my next recheck.

I believe the good Lord decided to nudge me into taking care of this sooner rather than later. I now have an itchy rash down the inside of both forearms and the back of my right leg. I think it may be poison ivy or oak that my dog brought in on his fur? ... if that's possible? I don't know what else it can be? Anyway, I think it's time for comprehensive allergy tests? I see my PCP later this morning.

Karen, take smaller bites...get you a shrimp fork. That helps with slowing down. I'm a big-bite-eater. It's hard.

Let us know what happens at the allergist!.

Ugh Allergery tests! I broke out in big ole huge hives for Christmas one year. I had to get two big shots in the bum!

I was supposed to be tested to see what may have caused it, but I never went.

Oh well. If I do it again, I will.

I hope you find out it was something like poison ivy and not like dust or something common.

My known allergies are dust, cats, grass, garden mold, Tapazole, Welbutrin, Zoloft, Sulfa, Keflex, Cipro, & Vancomycin. The doctor said it's not poison ivy or the like, and I'm going to a specialist in August to undergo comprehensive allergy testing. Not only to find out if I'm allergic to other things, but find out what antibiotics I can still take ... if any. My options keep dwindling.

Melissa - sounds like you had fun. Mike and I said we were going on a cruise for our 10 year anni. That is in 3 years...hopefully I can wait that long and hopefully I will be where I want to be with my weight loss.

You guys would not believe what happen to me yesterday. My credit/atm card and drivers liscense were stolen. I had it yesterday morning but when I went to buy something at like 2 it wasn't there. After we got home about 4:30 I'm looking all over and Paul checks the bank balance. They had already charged almost 1000 dollars at 4 different drug stores. Now we have to go on vacation (going to alabama on Sunday) and I have no drivers liscense, no credit/atm card and most likely these holds will hit this weekend. Our case worker said it would be credited back once it hit...but still, It is scarey being on the road and not knowin if when we stop for gas if the money will still be in the account or not. I think I'm going to use Paul's card and withdraw a crap load just for safety. Then to top it all off, took Paul for his medical proceedure and they lost his appointment. They hadn't even got insurance coverage verified yet! So at least Paul who had already had his valium was calm during all of this. LOL We go back today for his procedure. I was suppouse to work today, couldn't get anyone to work for me, but then my boss told me not to worry about it....she would have one of the new hires she just got come work the shift with her. Anyway, thats my horror story...oh and I've gaine 3lbs this week. What the crap? I'm working out like 2 hours a day again for this thing at work, I'm sore all over. I really hope this is a temporary gain...I like muscle and all, but no one ever believes ya when you say it is muscle gain.

OH MY GOD!!!!

I know that sucks out the wazoo!

They should have been able to kill the holds and refund the $.. Fed policy.

Id go a head and do a lost/stolen acct process. (which invovleds killing your acct and opening a new one) just in case they did manage to get ahold of the checking acct number and get fake checks made.

Sucks but can happen.

I'd hate to scare you but... just to be safe.

wow melissa I am sorry to hear this. I wish people could act civil and just leave other's alone. Why do they feel the need to act this way is beyond me. You will be fine and everything will work out it is just feeling violated. I had mine stolen a couple months back, thank goodness nothing was done to my accounts yet and I caught it in time. Have fun on your trip girl and dont think about this. I know it will be hard to not too but try. Hang in there!

Today is the last day of June, one half of 2006 has passed us by.

My year so far has been great. The gift of WLS has made such a huge difference with my life. Currently, I'm struggling. I am speaking with a therapist whose very intune with eating disorders and emotional eating.

I've been seeing this person since my mom died in 2003. It's really amazing what we can do when we reach out. I have trouble reaching out.

I miss my mom everyday. Somedays, I'm so envious when I see people out with their moms. My dad is passed to (didn't know him too well), I get upset inside when people are mean to their mom's and when I see older mom's who need extra help. I just smile and say hello, it hurts me inside though.

Karen - I don't know what i'd do without you. YOu are so awsome to me and i'm so glad our lives have crossed. Along with all my other wls buddies.

Now, one more thing, whose up for carowinds? I know it's hot as a cooks oven, but I haven't hit the Water park except 1 time this year so far.

I love wearing my croc shoes there, they are so comfy. I got the real ones now and wouldn't trade them for much.

My other task for the rest of the year is to begin journaling and tracking my Protein intake and how i'm feeling. I'll let you know how this goes.

I might treat myself to a palm pilot, especially since i'm taking on that massive, MBA program. I wish I was more excited.

Take Care and Stay Cool.

Jen

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
