New to Forum. July 9th 2010 Surgery date!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!:)

It has been a journey for me. Thank GOD for this forum. I've been doing research for sometime and this forum helped me make a VERY wise decision.

I started out wanting to be banded, but after reading the forum and seeing others who tried the band not having a high rate of success I began looking for the next best thing (Sleeve). I must admit my doctor pushed gastric bypass as the best solution for my weight problem, but my family and I felt that way to go was a little toooo extreme. Let's be honest, I have a 17yr old and two year old twins (boy and girl), so I need all the nutrients and energy possible to keep up with my crew. :wink1: And the gastric bypass was just not the way to go.

I went on youtube and listened to the people who did the gastric bypass and their testimonies were not encouraging. The majoirty said if they could do it again they would NOT have the gastric bypass. The problems that followed were more then what they dealt with when they were morbid obese. But, if you on youtube and type in Vertical Sleeve, you will NOT find 1 person who states they REGRET their decision. Actually, they are estatic about the results and NO ONE complained about having nutritional problems.

If you are just are questioning if this surgery is right for you just do your research. I'm excited!

I know I made the right decision. PRAISE GOD!!!!

I pray who ever begins their journey will come out satisfied and successful!

Hi there Wheatthin, welcome to the forum! I feel the same as you, that this place helped me make a wise decision. Congrats on getting your surgery date! Mine is tomorrow, and I can't believe it's here already. I also watched a lot of youtube videos and came to the same conclusion that you did! I really think this surgery is going to be it :)

Welcome to the forum, and gratz on getting your date. I was in the same boat as you, but being here and learning from other members helped me decide on the sleeve instead of the band. Best of luck to you on your journey.

Welcome Wheatthin!

I am also getting my sleeve in July (tentatively scheduled for the fifteenth but it's unlikely to move very far in either direction).

I also have boy/girl twins - mine are 2.5 this month. My doc was pushing the band and like you, I discovered this site while doing my research. I'm totally comfortable with my decision and feel grateful that I didn't just jump ahead and do the band right away.

Good luck in your journey, I hope to see you around the boards since we'll be having surgery a week apart.

~C

Funny how things work out. I am so glad you have a date. I think this forum will be a great help.

I originally wanted the sleeve but at the time Cigna didn't cover it. Now they do and boy am I glad.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi everyone! New here and I am getting sleeved July 15th as well. I almost went for the band then found out about the sleeve and knew it was what i wanted to do. Now I am so excited I can hardly see straight! lol Was curious if there would be a thread for July surgeries, but it looks like this might be it :001_unsure: I am sooooo ready to get my life back.

Sam I see you are a nurse - so am I! What area do you work in?

My sleeve surgery date is June 16th, 2010. I expected a huge fight from BCBS, but only one denial and within 10 days, the appeal and and approval. I'm currently 328 lbs and suffer from tendonitis in the feet, sleep apnea, high BP, insulin resistence, incontinence, muscle aches and pains and asthma. I'm constantly in pain when walking. I'm tired when walking from the parking lot to my classroom!

I'm excited and scared at the same time. I don't want to have to have the surgery, but know I must to be healthy. I went to the surgeon in April and was told to eat a modified Atkins diet until we got he approval. I just can't make myself start... I'm having such a hard time... I hope there is someone else out there that had this problem and has been successful after surger. I'm really starting to wonder if I will be...

HELP!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
