New and have questions

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of being officially "approved" by the team for my surgery. I am also getting married at the end of July. I am not entirely sure when my surgery date could be but could possibly be as early as the end of June. Part of me would like to have the surgery and use the down time between then and the wedding to adjust physically and mentally to how we will have to be as a married couple. The other part of me really wants to make sure I can dance and have a good time at the wedding and do not want to be sick or too tired. Does anyone have any thoughts? How long does it typically take for you to recover? I know the doctors say 2-4 weeks but what is realistic? Any insight would be helpful.

4 weeks may be fine, but you may be fatigued. It all depends on how things go, how fast you heal, and how strong you are. You might be cutting it close, but others may have a different take. Congrats! And best of luck.

I think you should be ok.

I agree with the poster above. You are going to have to pace yourself and try to rest as much as you can.

I had surgery on a Wednesday and was back at work the following Tuesday. I was fine except I got pretty tired towards the end of the day.

Congratulations!!!!

It took me a good month to get back to being able to get through the day without having to lie down at some point for a nap. It really depends on how fit you are pre-op too xx

I'm only a week out and still tired in the afternoon evening. Otherwise I feel great. I had my surgery on a Tuesday and was back at work on the following Monday.

Congrats on the wedding! You will be "healed" within 6-8 weeks. That is how long it takes for the inside of your stomach to really heal, swelling to go down, and to have all of your strength back. You may feel fine as early as 4 weeks and be able to enjoy yourself but I'd be careful about the dancing and keep it mild, you don't want to mess something up before you are completely healed inside. I would definitely run all this by your surgeon too to get his opinion. Fatigue is likely to be your biggest issue but everyone experiences different levels of fatigue for different lengths of time. If you get ALL of your Protein, ALL of your Water, eat 6 times a day etc you will have the best luck with the fatigue (from what I hear.)

Best wishes!!!

Thank you everyone for the well wishes and advice! I talked to my doctor about everything including the difficulties with work and the timing of the wedding. I have a surgery date of 6/30/2010. Very excited but very nervous too.

What a fabulous wedding present!!

I wish you luck with both....don't forget if the surgery is before the wedding you'll have to alter your dress too!!!

Thanks for all the wedding congrats! 60 days and counting today! I am a little concerned about altering the dress. But I have lost 50 lbs in 8 weeks before on a medical weight loss diet (that I ultimately put back on) and lost 4 sizes in my pants and barely went down 1 size in my top. I carry the majority of my weight in my stomach and chest. I have a history of the 50 lbs yo-yo and this has always been the pattern with my clothes sizes. So going on that I am hoping the dress (mainly the killer undergarments) will just be more comfortable. :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
