Hey this is just a silly question. I have read some of you experience this also, but does anyone know, why it is that I can't drink just plain Water? It feels weird going down, it scares me that I may even throw up it feels so strange, but if I add crystal light I'm golden. It doesn't make sense to me because that doesn't change the density or anything. Just wondering if anyone else knows!

I already have this issue, and I'm pre-op. Plain Water just makes my stomach woggly. (And yes, I just made that word up.)

I switched to plain Water last night because the crystal light and stuff were giving me heartburn so bad.

I'm not usually a fan of plain water, but I'm enjoying it right now!

I never understood this before surgery, but afterwards I totally got it. It's like the Water feels hard and rough or something and is just uncomfortable in there. I saw someone explain it as having something to do with surface tension, or Ph, or something I don't remember.

I couldn't handle much plain Water at first but it did start getting better at about the two-month mark, and now at 3 months out I can drink it probably 99% as well as before surgery. Not sure what changes, but something does!

7 months out from surgery and I still find drinking plain Water distastful and uncomfortable. I too feel it as heavy going in and after I drink it for a few lingering seconds... it just doesn't feel like it should. I have even gone to a local water store where they sell "Kangen" water..9.5 PH...I tried to drink that straight and still get that odd full/heavy feeling. I am using it to mix with Vitamin Water 50/50 (no artificial sweeteners) and can get it in that way (although it does make the Vitamin Water feel a bit heavier going down) Without diluting the Vitamin Water, I can drink a 20 oz bottle in less than an hour and it's smooth. I dilute it so I cut the carbs in half and get more plain water in me. I am hoping that once the really hot weather comes and I sweat that maybe I will be able to drink water straight. If you find out any more on this issue that some of us have with water please let me know. I'm baffled by it and my surgeon is clueless.

I also have no idea why - I have to add things in to get rid of that uncomfortable feeling. My husband thinks I'm nuts, but I have enough company to let me know that I'm not. (Well, at least not nuts when it comes to Water. Other issues??? ... Possibly!)

Yeah, I have had two friends look at me like what are you talking about? I think because I'm so prone to nausea and anything funky with my tummy that they assume this is just another weird Anna thing.

It bugs me that some "sleevers" have no issue with Water and some do. I am not one to be able to just shrug it off and think "oh well". I figure that something is causing this and would like to know. Ah maybe Dr. Jossart?

I would also be curious to know why some of us can't tolerate plain Water post-op and others can. I am one of the lucky ones who hasn't had a problem, water tastes and goes down just the same as pre-op. I bought a ton of Crystal Light pre-op anticipating the water problem and I haven't used any of it. Do you guys have the same problem with ice chips?

I haven't tried ice chips. Just doing flavored waters, etc.

I had some days initially where I was obsessed with sonic ice chips and Water, but I can't pull that off anymore. I water down my crystal light and still sometimes put crushed ice in it, but water just doesn't work for me and the thought of it is literally nauseating.

I have never been able to comfortably drink alot of plain Water. I add just a touch of white cranberry to make it palatable. Drinking alot of plain water, for some reason, gives me heartburn. And I take Prilosec, so go figure.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
