Vitamins/hair loss/healing

Recommended Posts

I've been lurking for a while and thought it was time to introduce myself. I'm Donna and I'm going to Dr. Spivak in Houston for my sleeve surgery which will hopefully be in May. I've read a lot of your posts regarding Vitamins, Hair loss, healing and not getting enough Protein. I called my Dr's office because I was admittedly a bit freaked out. My Dr. told me to go to Bariatricadvantage.com for Vitamin supplements, that they were the best for bariatric patients...my Dr. has had no issues with his patients losing their hair and he has been performing surgeries for a long time. Hadar Spivak is his name, feel free to do a google search on him and see his credentials. I just wanted to help some of you that may not know what vitamin to take or are having problems with hair loss, etc. They also have protein, books, etc. on the site. They have kits put together for the various procedures....really sort of cool. I know I will be ordering before my surgery and I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for sharing your stories.

Hey Donna, and welcome.

Bariatricadvantage has some really great products. Some were out of my price range, but I found comprehensive and high quality Vitamins elsewhere.

Here's a Vitamin comparison chart so you can see which ones give you the biggest bang for your buck. Bariatric Advantage Calcium citrate lozenges are yummy, and I'm probably going to get some of those when my capsules are out.

You can click on the spreadsheet icon, and there are 3 of the Bariatric Advantage Vitamins on there for comparison.

Good luck and best wishes on your upcoming surgery ! ! ! I took my vitamins religiously, got in Protein as soon as I was on soft solids, but still lost 1/2 my hair. Luckily, it grows back.

Tiff when I clicked on that, there was a bar graph but it didn't show anything on it. I couldn't make any sense of what that bar graph was for and it didn't mention any Vitamins.< /strong>

You click the graph and then it loads a zip file. I have a mac, so I had to download open office so I could open it. If you do not have excel, or an excel reader, you cannot open it.

Well that makes sense then. I don't have excell. Can somebody just copy and paste it so we can see it. I am assuming that it's a comparison of Bariatric Advantage Vitamins to other vitamins you can buy for less money.

I take the Bariatric Advantage Cinnamon Calcium tablets and they taste amazing. I got some free samples at the hospital, tried a few other kinds, then bought these. I got mine on www.dietdirect.com. Their prices were better than the Bariatric Advantage site. They also sent me some free samples, which caused me to send them another order. I'm getting BariWise Protein Bars and hot chocolate too. But that's another topic - sorry to digress!

Hi, I think your hair will shed due to the body shock whatever you do. If you take basic good vits and keep a high Protein diet it all sorts itself out anyway. Thats what happened to me, so save your money.

Do you get the hot chocolate from that site and the Protein bars from them too? How is their shipping? I could not find the hot chocolate there.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
