Whoaaaaaaa... Locking threads at will?

Recommended Posts

There is a thread on here that just greeted me this morning and made me fume. It wasn't caused just by the person who posted the vicious attack but by the moderator who allowed the post to remain there and not delete it. Just locking it is not a sufficient remedy. A thread that so blatantly attacks a person as the "I'm Guilty" thread should have been deleted.

I personally am very proud to call PhotoNut my friend. She has been a great encouragement to me along with a lot of other people on here. She has always been here for me, and it hurt to see her attacked in what I considered a vile way by someone I have no respect for after reading this.

How low is this thing going to sink? You know Alexandra, the thread should have been deleted. You are allowing Susan to read this and not be able to respond. You know it will hurt her horribly. What if someone posted something cruel to a moderator...would you let it stand. Now if Susan trys to defend herself in another thread you will get on her case and lock it.

Alexandra, a good moderator would delete the "I'm Guilty" thread immediately and not just lock it. I would like to hear others opinions on this, or am I going to find this thread locked to responses to?

I'm furious with this person who attacked PhotoNut. She should be ashamed of herself.

Dody, I concur. Below is the response I had typed up but was unable to post due to the thread being locked.

I'll take dead horses for $1000, Alex.

I've held my tongue for entirely too long on this subject. Not anymore.

My God, DeLarla, haven't you done enough damage with your rhetoric? You spew the most ridiculous nonsense on this board. You start accusatory threads filled with malice and yet, you have the audacity to accuse others of exactly what YOU are doing. Do you ever take an honest look at yourself before you post something? I am inclined to think not.

Furthermore, do you honestly think that people are following YOU around? Are you that narcissistic to think that the general population of this message board cares that much about you? Guess what? They don't. What I find comical is that you attempt to control what other people do and say on this board as though you're some God to be obeyed. Again, how narcissistic.

I'm a cheerleader for no one but I do appreciate and respect several people on this message board. You are not one of them. Instead, I have pity for you because you don't know the true meaning of caring nor do you know how to let go of your pride.

I hope that some day soon you look deep inside yourself and see exactly what it is that you're doing.

Looks like this thread is headed for lock-up as well. I wish all the bickering would end and the focus would go back to support.

I dislike the bickering as well. Touble is people just can't always get along. I'm sure all of this will become calm soon.

I'm sorry the board has had to deal with ugly words and arguments.

Hang in there :(

I agree, it is very tiresome. I've said my peace about it now, so I'll not be contributing to anymore of this.

It's hard not to defend yourself when you've been singled out in posts which lie about you and call you foul names. I'll really try to ignore it publicly now and take my defense and complaints to Alex. Which, I did last night.

Not sure who got my complaint about the thread they posted about you PhotoNut. I just sent it in by clicking on the triangle. I don't know how to get ahold of Alex personally or I most definitely would. This is supposed to be a forum for support and encouragement, which is why I joined in the first place. I hope everything returns quickly to where it belongs. I've always found you to be kind to new people. You were one of the first to greet me when I joined and have been a great source of inspiration.

I heard from 3 Loves. She is doing fine and her surgery went well. Thank God.

I hope to see sanity back on this board and hurtful things deleted. I hate to see someone singled out and attacked.

Our rules dictate that it takes two moderators to agree to delete a thread. We are talking about it. All one moderator can do without discussion is lock something.

You have had all day. It seems to me the damage has been done by allowing PhotoNut to have to read the ramblings of a psychopath. Perhaps Alex will do something about it. I'm tired of threads simply being closed and the obnoxious behavior allowed to remain on here.

You knew PhotoNut would be hurt by this Alexandra. I can't believe you couldn't contact some other moderator and delete this thread long before now. Shame on all of you.

I think perhaps Alex should have enough faith if he chose you for moderators to allow one of you to decide an obnoxious thread should be deleted. It appears you have been discussing this "I'm Guilty" thread with someone, and still nothing has been done. Why should it even be up for discussion that it should be deleted and the person who wrote it banned....of course she would come back as DeNutCase or something else. It is oh so easy to change an IP number if you know anything about computers....but her style of rambling is easy to pick up on.

Dody, the threads have been deleted.

And sure, we may have have "had all day" but we were out living our lives. (You do know we're not paid for this, right?)

And last, please stop throwing insulting labels around; we don't want to have to lock this thread too.

Dody, I respect what you are saying, and agree to a point.

These things should never have been said. The post should never have been made. There are several on the board that should never have been made, on boths sides of the fence. As Susan's friend I ache for her and what was said, and my concern of the harm being threatened is way up there.

But at the same time, I have been on the internet since before the world wide web came around. (anyone remember PINE mail?) I have belonged to many BBS and boards discussing everything from salt Water reef fish, to weight loss surgery, to sex. and this is going on on all of the boards. It is because when a large group of people get together, there are going to be a few that don't get along. The mods do what they can, but like Alexandra said, they aren't here all day long. I imagine the way things are set up is there is a seperate forum that none of us can see. this forum can only be accessed by mods, and I betcha there are tons of threads about the fighting going on. While Alexandra (this is just for example. i do not know the situation and am using names for this example alone) may want the thread deleted, the only other mod on at the time like Penni may not think it is bad enough to warrant a deletion, but does agree that it should be closed.

There are several threads and posts that i wished were deleted. But I do not have those powers. all i can do is report report report. and be available to speak with alex or the mods whenever they wish to discuss the events.

Can we stop fueling the fire and give it a rest already? Tomorrow is Memorial Day so let's focus on the meaning of THAT holiday and stop hurting one another.

I agree! with not deleting any postings! If you (the person posting) can't handle the heat, get out of the fire!!! If you are going to post opinions then you need to expect some will reply with helpful suggestions and others will reply with ignorance. That is everyone's right to "Freedom of Speech"!

If that statement was directed towards me because I tried all day to get an offensive statement removed from here, then so be it. I can stand any heat you can throw at me, but I won't see my friends run down like was done on the "I'm Guilty" (finally deleted thread). Perhaps you should have read it.

It would have taken one minute out of someone's life to see it was totally inappropriate yet it was left all day...plenty of time for PhotoNut to see it.

Do I think the moderators could have done something in the early morning...you can bet your ass I do, and I said just that.

If you have a problem with that feel free to spit it out.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
