wondering if I am on track

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I went for my 30 day check up today and I am down 24 lbs. The dietician said it was slow considering I lost about 10 from the liquid diet before surgery. I was so depressed sitting in the waiting room waiting to see the surgeon. All I kept thinking was "I have sacrificed so much, had surgery, completed change my stomach" and I still won't do it?

When the surgeon came in and asked how I was I told him a little bummed about such a slow weight loss and he said I am right on target. He said they consider your wl before surgery as well as part.

Who is right a month out? I know we are all different but it is bothering me.

I did not weigh until I went to the dr.'s today.

I know people are noticing, I know 24 lbs is 24 lbs, but I want to be sucessful and considering I am not eating much at all it seems wrong.

How much did you lose at your 30 days ? Thanks for your input

Diane

At 6 weeks I am at 26.8 pounds down since surgery. There are so many things that can contribute to loss (or little loss) - TOM, stress, how much you have to lose. Your doctor knows you, if he says you are on track, don't sweat it. 24 pounds is HUGE (excuse the pun) ... you are doing it!!!!

Another thing - did you take pre-surgery measurements? I bet you would be surprised at how many inches you've lost in 30 days.

I am at exactly 34 pounds lost at 9 weeks. I had about a 2-3 week stall right at my third week out. It seemed I lost 20 pounds in about 2 weeks and then it all came to a grinding halt. After the stall, I had a big week (8 pounds) and the past few weeks it is at 2-3 pounds a week. I never know what to expect when I weigh in once a week. I started out quite heavy (301.5 on surgery date and I am only 5'2" tall). And I have also been afraid I am not losing enough fast enough. But I also never was a thin person. I was very healthy and active in college and still weighed a little over 200 pounds. Now I'm almost 43 years old, and I will be amazed if I can get down to 200. So I am just keeping at this, plugging away, and trying not to worry. I'm seeing good results and making solid progress even if I'm not the biggest loser! Just keep the faith!!

I think you're doing great, and that you should Celebrate yourself and your great loss so far! I have to keep saying the same to myself, as I'm at a bit of a stall. :) We can do this!

I think you're doing great! I am just at 4 weeks post surgery and I've only lost 26 lbs. The first 23 came off pretty quick with the presurgery diet & liquids following surgery but I seem to have hit a stalling point for week 3 and 4. As I understand from reading other posts that the 3-4 week stall is pretty common so I'm trying not to get too frustrated and just keep in mind it's all a work in progress type journey. Keep-up the good work! :)

I am also about 5 weeks out and have gone through a stall and now TOM so everything is going up a little. I am down about 24 pounds so I won't complain. I also know that I likely would have lost more if I been more compliant with the twice daily Protein Shakes instead of substituting mushies. I am trying to get with the program and hopefully will see my losses increase.

I also think that you have done well.

At 5 weeks out I'd lost 25 pounds and my surgeon and nutritionist said that was a very fast weight loss and were pretty blown away. I'd say you are right on track. My original goal was to lose that much by 2.5 months out, so I was pretty ecstatic. I made it to a normal bmi within 6 months losing at the rate I did. Good luck with continued success.

Tomorrow is one month for me. As of tonight, I'm down 18 pounds. That is since surgery morning, not including any pre-op weight loss. I'll see if I shed anything by morning. I was hoping to be at 210 at one month so that means I need to let go of 1.8 pounds over night. :) It doesn't really matter to me. I feel like my body is changing and I'm feeling good. The weight is going to come off. Will it happen in 6 months? Who the heck knows but this is for the long haul.

I think you're doing great Diane!

And something we need to remind ourselves... this is weight GONE FOREVER, not gone just to come back. It's nice to know, if it's 1 pound or 20, it's GONE GONE GONE! Yahoo!

you are doing great. take some measurements and then take them again in about 3-4 weeks to see how your body is changing. stalls and little weight loss is very discouraging for everyone on this forum so please don't think you are alone. we have all gone through lots of pain over the years and we want this to be successful. none of us went through surgery to be a failure so we all just need to keep our chins up. good luck and you are doing so well..

It would be nice if the weight loss continued at the rate of the first week : ) but reality is that it won't. I am trying not to weigh myself everyday just so that I can see a bigger loss instead of half a pound a day. However, I keep reminding myself that even if it does get a little slow, I am still doing so much better than I ever did on my own.

I forgot to measure before surgery so will be doing it on Thursday at my 4 week mark. However, I am seeing a big change in my pants and that feels wonderful!

Hang in there! You are doing great!

Thanks for the encouragement Deedee! You put a smile on my face first thing this morning. I love reading about your success! You have done amazing.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
