Hi! I had a band for almost 4 years and lost 120 pounds. I also had 3 slips and 5 surgeries for lapband related issues. After suffering with nausea for almost the last 1 1/2 years, I finally was willing to give up my fight. When I called my surgeon he had a new option for me. It's called a gastric imbrecation or gastric plication. It is similar to a sleeve, except the stomach is not cut, it is folded in on itself. I just got off the liquid diet and I'm trying to figure out how to tell when I've eaten enough. It is very uncomfortable if I eat too much. Any suggestions? Also seem to get constipated and then have loose stools all in the same day. I'm on prilesec, could this be a side affect? Since my procedure is experimental, I have no one to turn to. It seems that the sleeve would be the nearest procedure. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Tiffy, I'm at one week tomorrow and you're right about the scar tissue, there was a lot of it and my Dr. was exhausted after my operation. They said they had to cut through it and it caused bleeding and a small, but expected complication. The next day on the Flouro, the impression I got was that the original band pouch seemed to be there then it narrowed out all the way down from there. I don't know if that's the shape of other's stomachs that aren't revisions, I can only speak for mine.

I am scheduled for a super sleeve next Wednesday with Dr Rod in TJ. I am a nurse and I have driven everyone mad with my questions. Many friends have gotten the lap band but have had difficulty with follow-up. The results from the plication are very encouraging. I have talked with surgeons, GI specialists and they think this is a good way to go....will keep u posted

Lolo's Neena, good luck with your Super Sleeve, I really can't figure out what exactly it is, do they cut the excess stomach and take it out or is it a super tight sleeve with the staples? Please let me know as I've been seeing it on the forum but am still not clear. Having had the lapband previously and tonight at 2 weeks post op I had my first bowl of chili with ground meat, it went down great and although I'm feeling full, with the band I really felt uncomfortable much of the time, the sleeve isn't giving me that feeling so I too, am greatly encouraged. I would bring my own liquid aspirin or tylenol if I were you, that little pill they give under the tongue didn't put a dent in my pressure headache from lack of coffee, good luck to you and keep us posted.

Hi there, I had vertical sleeve plication in TJ on April 10th. At two months post OP I've lost 30 lbs and have another 20 to go. Had some nausea issues the first two weeks but since then everything has been smooth sailing thank God. Dr. Corvala performed the surgery and together with his team they are excellent. I am talking to BeLiteWeight.com about having a Super Sleeve (Gastric Imbrication) done in at Star Medica Hospital, 15 mins across the border from El Paso, Texas in Juarez, Mexico by Dr. Jose Rodriguez. The cost is $6200 for everything.

Has anyone gotten the super sleeve done or know of anyone that has. OR Has anyone worked with this company or Doctor or even hospital?

I've had the plication and am two months post OP with great results. At 184 lbs and a 30 BMI I had 50 lbs to lose. To date I've lost 30 and have 20 to go. I had my surgery in TJ with Dr. Corvala and his team. Excellent experience, no poet OP complications.

The plication and super sleeve are two different procedures.

Plication involves pleating or folding the excess stomach tissue onto itself, and suturing it together. It does not involve any stapling, or removing of any of the stomach tissue.

The Super Sleeve is being advertised/marketed as a super tight sleeve where the sleeve is made smaller.

The stomach tissue is stapled off, excised and removed from the body.

What is super sleeve?

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is not so simple as any other gastrectomy. There are some important technical details, unknown to inexperienced surgeons. Gastric tube size influences both the degree of weight loss and weight stability. A large sleeve predisposes to gastric dilatation and weight regain. Inexperienced surgeons tend to create large tubes ( or to leave back large remnants of the gastric fundus. A standardised technique with a gastric capacity less than 100 mL (A) is mandatory in order to get the patient achieve a durable weight loss. The sleeve should be "super" which means a small gastric sleeve diameter and a higher degree of restriction. In our hands, with the gastric capacity been restricted to 60-80 gr and Ghrelin (the appetite hormone) totally suppressed, the resultant weight loss is predictable and comparable to this achieved with gastric by-pass (60-70% EWL), without any serious complication or side effects (e.g. Vitamin malabsorption). We introduced super sleeve in our bariatric program, as the most effective and safe bariatric solution even for the super-obese patients.

I've seen the plication called the "sleeve killer", but the super sleeve is not plication as it's being called.

Thanks for the heads up about the asa or tylenol...hadn't thought of it. The excess stomach is plicated with sutures and it makes for a very small pouch. I am excited...I have talked to several people and they are having GREAT results.

And hi to you MyWay and Neena, my surgery's right between the two of yours, May 27. There aren't many here on the forum that have had the plication so I'm glad to see ya'll. Wasn't the hospital in TJ simply gorgeous, and had great protocol too? (ie: each shift the leaving nurse would bring in her replacement and introduce her to you) I'm down quite a few pounds but I'm not surprised as I'm not eating but a bit.

I got my, "You have been approved for surgery" letter today! YAH!! I am getting the super sleeve which from what I have read is the same thing as what you have the Gastric Imbrecation.

How is it going so far? Are you happy with it? I am planning to have mine done in Sept.

Mellifrits, the super sleeve is not exactly the same thing as the Imbrecation or plication, please see Tiffykin's post above.Cavyguy, there are a few plication/imbrecations folks here on the forum but it's such a new procedure there aren't too many. Do a search then you can find them.I think the main difference is that it's reversible in theory but the truth is, I doubt I'll wake up one day and want to be heavy again. I'm sure to reverse it would be problematic due to scar tissue so chances of that happening are minimal.The "hunger" sensor in the stomach is taken out or certainly minimalized with the gastrectomy whereas with the plication it is completely left intact, that may prove to be problematic later on, I will have to see. (I'm only going by what I've read, those of you having had the VSG could tell you more about that)The main selling point of plication is its complication factors, quick healing, no staples, no possibility of leaking, etc. Once you've healed we're all the same here, I would imagine.So there, that's my two cents on the two procedures, let us know how you're doing with whatever you decide.BBTD

What are the details on the adhesions and the scar tissue left after a Band Removal ?

Swelling/bloating/puffiness.....of my stomach is something that really bothers me. I am fine with it, IF the swelling GOES AWAY in time ?

So what about the adhesions and swelling ? I am getting ready to remove the Band after 2 years and I am very concerned about the fact that my body has acclamated its tissues/muscles all around this band. To "RIP" it out seems like it may be risky ?

I just had plication and have had some issues with loose stool and constipation but not the same day. I too am getting used to how much food is enough and have vomited a few times which worries me as I've heard it can lead to stretching the stomach. I'm 10 days post op and have only lost 11 lbs. There is another lady that just posted on the forum this afternoon and it sounds like she's got this down to a science already. She's lost 34 lbs in 17 days and said nothing about feeling sick in her post. Perhaps she can be of some help. Good luck!
