I'm trying sooooo hard...

Recommended Posts

I'm 11days out & 26lbs down and up until now have been feeling great. Today however I am exhausted and so weak. I had to take 2 breaks just while blow drying my hair, as I couldn't keep my arm up. I've been trying to keep my liquid intake up, but I'm finding it so hard still, so I can't imagine I'm even close to the 64oz recommended. I'm also not getting anywhere near the sufficient amount of Protein in.

It's my goal as of tomorrow to pay close attention to my liquid/water intake and sip, sip, sip all day... but is there such a thing as a good tasting Protein powder? I've tried so many & gag with each sip. I just started full liquids today & thought making shakes with milk would be so much better, unfortunately my gag reflex didn't agree! :lol0:

Have you tried Kelloggs Protein H2O? It has 5g of protein & 6 carbs, but at this point, a little may be better than nothing. I actually LIKE the pink lemonade. In fact, I am sipping on some now.

Try putting your Protein powder in your chocolate Suger Free pudding. I couldn't stand the shakes either, so I used pudding. Whole scoop will go into it easy. Just put the pudding in a bowl, stir in the powder and add a teaspoon of cool whip. It's pretty good and easy to get down.

I also eat Protein Bars. Try some of those, they have lots of different kinds at Kroger. Find the one with the least Carbs, and most protein. I like Atkins Protein Bars, because the have less carbs.

If your week your probably getting dehydrated, GET your liquids IN !!!!

Kai, can you tolerate Jello? I'm still pre-op but experimenting.

Today I made strawberry SF Jello with 1 cup hot Water and 2 cups of Isopure Grape Frost. It came out a little thicker because only 3 cups of Fluid. It tastes strongly of grape but quite tolerable. The bottle of Isopure (clear liquid) is 160 calories and 40 Protein.

I'm hoping to tolerate it post-op.

I love the Jay Robb whey chocolate protein powder. I mix it in lactaid milk, and add a splash of banana extract. It tastes great.

You need fluids first, then protein is the second most important, to keep up your strength. Sip sip Sip all day. I use Sobe Lifewater, which contains a lot of Vitamins and tastes delicious. There are a lot of flavors, so try different ones to find what you like best. At the beginning I liked apple the best, but now I like them all. If you still have a lot of spasms swallowing, warm it up a little, and it goes down easier.

Things will get better....the first week or so is just hard work! Soon you will be dropping pounds magically.

Hang in there!

The only way I got by was to combine my Water and protein. I got the Twisted cherry Syntrax nectar and mixed it with lemonaide packets and Water and drank thru a straw. You can't smell it that way and the lamonaide really helps to make it taste better. :) You can do it!

Thanks all for your replies. Unfortunately here in Canada I'm not able to get most of the brands you've recommended, but I'm happy to report that I've been getting much more liquid down & incorporating Protein into it all as well. Probably still not up to where I'm supposed to be, but I'm getting there & I'm no longer weak!

Thanks again!

YES! and if you mix your protein mix (vanilla flavor) with Fit N Light Orange yogurt, it tastes like a creamsicle, very yum . . . my protein powder is very good, it's Bariatric Advantage vanilla, i love it. . . might try the chocolate or strawberry next time. . . are you taking your B12? and the other Vitamins and supplements? this could be playing a factor too

HI Kai,

I am 13 days out from my sleeve surgery, and I also live in Alberta!

I found IsoFemme chocolate Protein powder at Walmart near the pharmacy area. It has 25g of protien, very low carbs and sugar, low calories and I found it tasted really yummy with skim milk or water! Unfortunately I went to get another container and they were sold out, so I tried costco.

I found one called Kaizen 100% whey isolate, Decadent chocolate. There was also one there (same brand) that was plain, unsweetened and unflavoured. I haven't tried the unflavoured plain one yet to say if it really is flavourless (cuz I just got them yesterday!), but I found the chocolate one to be good! Not QUITE as yummy as the IsoFemme from WalMart, but it'll do!

The Kaizen ones have 35g of protien, 1g of carbs, and 150 cals per serving!

SO there is a suggestion from a fellow Canadian sleever!

Good luck! I too have been struggling to get in enough Water each day and have been feeling tired and weak too. I also bought a bunch more Vitamins yesterday so hopefully in taking those,it will pass for me too!

Glad to read that you're doing better today. I had similar issues with getting in my Protein, it got so much better when I was able to have soft/mushy foods. Just hang in there and do your best!

You can buy the Jay Robb Protein Powder online and have it shipped to you. If you decide to do that order some individual serving packets of the powder first, to taste it. The whey powder is what I use, not the egg white powder.

I like the chocolate, but everyone has their own taste.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
