Hello all! I was just thinking about my jewelry (rings) and was wondering....so I realize as I lose weight, my ring size will get smaller and eventually, when I get to goal, I will need to have my rings resized. However, I JUST received my engagement ring about 3 weeks ago and I don't want to have to stop wearing it anytime soon just because it's too loose. :blushing: Obviously, I don't want it to fall off & lose it either! Does anyone have any suggestions for a way to temporarily make it smaller? I remember in high school us girls would always wrap our boyfriends' class rings with string & paint over the string with fingernail polish.......I don't think I quite want to go that route with my "slightly" haha more expensive engagement ring. So any suggestions/advice on this or whether it's even possible? Would REALLY REALLY appreciate it! Thanks in advance! :001_unsure:

Check with a jewelry store. I am having the same problem. I have lost 60 lbs and my rings can just slide off. Someone told me there is something called a speed bump that can be put inside the ring, but I haven't checked it out yet.

I have the "speed bump in my wedding band. (two actually) keeps it from turning, as well as sizing it down. Pricey though. There is also a "ring guard" type of deal that your ring fits in and that sizes it down. You know, the idea of wraping dental floss around and then using clear polish is a pretty resonable~temporary solution.

How pricey was the "speed bump" for your wedding ring?

It was a long time ago. I did it in gold. I think it was $120.00 for two bumps. It was more to keep the ring upright and not flopping around.

Look in the drug stores for ring sizers. I am going to have to do this too. My rings are starting to flop around.

I'm having the same problem! I just recently got engaged, and my ring is getting loose. My finace bought me a beautiful chain to put it on. I know its not the same, but it is another way you can still enjoy it and wear it (I just don't have the money for the bumps :) )

I had speed bumps put on my anniversary band. It was $50 for two.

But, as you continue to lose weight, they will get bigger - so that might not be the most efficient in-between fix. Check with a jewlery store for a ring guard - that's what they did for a temporary fix when my husband gave it to me.

And, CONGRATULATIONS on your engagement!

You can find plastic ring guards at little jewelry boutique stores in most malls. Claire's has them, and I use them for all of my rings.

My bridal set, and other rings are all a size 8.5. Now, my ring size is 7. I'm not having my bridal set resized because John is having my engagement ring diamond put into a new setting as an anniversary present and we'll have it resized then.

My "right-hand" rings have all been moved over to my middle finger for now.

I have a straight bar thing in my wedding ring. I don't know my ring size but it is has gone down by half. My finger looks funny in it now. I wanted to wait to have my ring resized because it is a chanel set.

Funny you brought this up because I'm still on the other end of the spectrum by waiting until the day I can get my wedding ring back on! I've gained so much (married 18 years) that I finally had to take it off because it was so tight. It's one of my mini-goals that I look forward to.

You can go to any jeweler in a mall and they will have what is called a ring guard. It is a metal piece that is put on the inside of your ring and the arms wrap around the band of your ring. It works great, should only be about $10 but is made to be just temp. The actual guard will move slightly on the sides of your ring so don't do it long term. I finally gave up and took mine off until I get to goal.

I would not recomend the speed bumps because your ring can still come off if it is very large. The speed bumps were designed for people with artheritis because of the size of the nuckle. Plus they are expensive and not very comfortable

You can purchase the ring adjusters at Miles Kimble for $2.99.

I worked in jewelry for 20 years for those of you wanting to know why I know this!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
